J2 shippers, if you're looking for a new camera, look no further :DD

A couple of questions regarding Skyfall.

1. Skyfall's groundskeeper, Kincade, he doesn't speak with a Scottish accent so I presume he's not actually Scottish?

2. Is Silva a British citizen? His name and his accent indicates that he's not, but if he's not British, could he become a secret service agent under the British government?

The Way Back by [livejournal.com profile] rainylemons, SPN, gen rating R, 35971 words, post apocalyspe-that-never-happens, AU after season five.
Summary: Sam and Dean and Cas settling down together. Dean is injured and Sam is not all there after his time in the cage and Cas is no longer an angel. They make it work.

I don't have the words to adequately describe this story. Suffice to say that it has more Moments in it than all of season 6 put together and that I had to pull myself together several times while reading it.

The Natalie verse by [livejournal.com profile] longsufferingly, J2, AU, a collection of stories, rating ranging from PG-13 to NC-17.
Summary: After their mother dies, Kyle and Natalie move in with their father, whom they haven't seen since their parents divorced six years ago, and his boyfriend, whom they've never seen.

This is such a sweet story, one I enjoyed reading very much. It reminded me a bit of [livejournal.com profile] phaballa's Last Stop: Chicagoland, a story which even after all these years, I still consider one of the best J2s around. And like Chicagoland, Natalie is realistic and down-to-earth, the story of Jensen and Jared, mostly told from the POV of Jensen's daughter from a previous marriage. It was written 3 years ago and I'm guessing that it has been read by most but do go read if you haven't!

Better Than Moonshine by [livejournal.com profile] riyku, J2 AU NC-17, 33,000 words.
Summary: After publishing a few dime store paperbacks and one novel that scored decent critical success, Jensen's in a bit of a rut. He's got an editor breathing down his neck, an overdue novel that needs to be written, and a weeklong workshop to lead on beating writer's block. To top it off, he has a vicarious one-night stand, and now the guy keeps showing up all over the place. It turns out that a little petty larceny, a car crash, and possible blackmail--all in the name of fun--might be exactly what he needs to kick-start his writing again.

Incredible writing, this story made me feel so good with its quite charm and gentle feel to it. A fine, hypnotizing story, one in which we get to take a look into the world of writers and editors and writing, and two men falling in love with each other.

Jensen took his time putting his thoughts together. “You wake up one morning, and you do the same thing that you've done every single day. You drink your coffee and put orange marmalade on your toast and put on your favorite sweatshirt and you call your mother. And then you sit down in your writing spot and something amazing happens. You know it's amazing as it hits the page, and other people think it's amazing and let you know it. So here we are, six months down the line and it's time to do it all over again. Same coffee, same goddamn orange marmalade, and your mom's still happy to hear from you. It's time to write and there's nothing but a blank page staring you down and not a single word comes to mind to fill it up. And you ask yourself what's the difference? What's the difference between now and then?"

A Bizarre Love Triangle by [livejournal.com profile] riyku. J2 AU, PG-13, 7500 words.
Summary : In which Jensen hates his nickname and Jared looks very good in pink. Jensen's also carrying a torch for his best friend, but that's another thing entirely.

I've always had a soft spot for J2 stories in which one of them is secretly in love with the other. Two best friends growing up together, Jared aiming for the stars with his artistic talent leaving Jensen feeling that he's holding back his friend and on top of that trying to hide his love for Jared. Enters an Ivy-League type, old school friend who used to be on Jensen's case which made the story even better. Heh, I'm such a sucker for jealous, insecure Jensen lol.

Lovely story, this made my heart ache in all the right ways.

I'm not familiar with Dungeons and Dragons but I thoroughly enjoyed this Big Bang written for last year's challenge.

From the Ruined Tower to the Caves of Unknown Horror by [livejournal.com profile] annella, J2 Dungeons and Dragons AU, 30,500 words, rating R.

Summary : Jared's been adventuring for most of his life. He loves being out on the road with his friends—killing monsters and bad guys, finding treasure, and helping people out of sticky situations. It's all part of being a good-hearted barbarian. Then his carefree life is shaken up by the introduction of a scrawny half-elf wizard called Jensen, who joins them for a quest upon which they will encounter horror, true friendship, and a secret buried deep underground...

An exciting fantasy adventure starring Jared and Jensen and while I know nothing about D&D, there're plenty of Lord of the Ring referrals that thrilled me no end. It made me want to go see what D&D is all about, the characters and their adventures are so incredibly amazing! Not a single dull moment in this story and if this were a book, it'd be one of those unputdownable page-turners.

Losing Your Appeal by [livejournal.com profile] pavonine. J2 AU, R, 9000 words.
Summary : What happens to a dream deferred? A road trip, a kidney thief, a little too much glamour, and the realization that being brave isn't easy.

I have so much love for this charming, quirky little story. Jared and Jensen in an established relationship, so in tune with each other and so secure in their relationship that they can casually exchange insults and bodily injuries - real insults, real injuries! There really is no specific storyline here, it's just them being them, written in such a way that it fills me with much happiness.

I'm all misty-eyed now. I started reading this story in April last year, it was at chapter 30 then and I stayed up all night reading it, followed by angst-filled days of waiting for the updates. Dark Emeralds never disappoint. Each subsequent chapter fulfills my expectations, and beyond.

And you know with the WIPs when you're dreading the day when the authors just give up on their stories? I never had any doubt that Dark Emeralds would finish this story, and finished it in a spectacular way too, if I may say so.

I just wish that more people would read this wonderful, amazing story, that it's not limited to just a certain group of readers. Non-J2 fans probably won't be reading this, or those who don't read slash, or those who're not into the Regency era.

But if you'd just see this as an original fiction, a fantastic love story that's written extraordinarily well by a truly amazing writer, trust me, you won't be disappointed. So yup, I'm urging you to read this if you hadn't already! And if you don't do wips and are waiting for this story to be completed, now is the time to start!

Now if only I had a smidgen of artistic talent, I'd have made vids and arts and banners for this story. I'm so envious of readers who're able to sing their praises in more ways than one, like this vid that someone created for the wonderful dragon!fic Queensguard. But alas, I would just have to settle for some inane gushings and not so articulate squees lol.

And lastly, many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] janissa11 for rec'ing Restraint in her journal in the first place. This story is totally going to be in my Top Eleven of the Most Perfect Stories in the three fandoms that I read, heheh wouldn't you like to know what they are? ;DD

Four J2 fics that I've read, and thoroughly enjoyed, over the last couple of weeks, three of them from last year's [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang challenge. I'm still working my way through them and the only reason that I'm so late ( this year's Big Bangs are already around the corner! ) is that I"m not familiar with the authors hence the delay. Screw You, We're From Texas by [livejournal.com profile] makeit_takeit. J2, NC-17, 75002 words, [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang 2010.

Summary : Everyone knows the story - Jensen had plans to enroll at Texas Tech and become a Physical Therapist, Jared was heading for the University of Texas to become an Engineer. Instead, they both got against-all-odds breaks in Hollywood and ended up on a totally different path. This is the story of what could have happened if fate twisted differently, if they never got those big Hollywood breaks, and instead ended up living the lives they grew up expecting to lead.

I love this story. Love it so much that I couldn't do much, LJ-wise, until I've finished reading it. Jared and Jensen do not make it as actors. Jensen does not get the part of Eric Brady and Jared does not win the teen magazine contest. They go on to become a PT and an engineer, and this is them meeting, not as Hollywood actors, but as them, and the story unfolds with parallels from their "actor-lives" written in, their families, their friends, Jensen's religious background, how they deal with the real prejudice againts gay couples in Texas, their fear of coming out to family and friends.

It feels real, gritty and painful most of the time, but not without its fluffy, feel-good moments. A wonderful, lovely read!

Summary : Jared mistakes Jensen for a hooker.

A delightful take on my favourite kind of fic. And seriously, seriously hot with lashings of angst and have I said that it's HOT? A must-read!

He wanted to get laid. Really, he did. He’d even dressed up, tight jeans and tighter shirt, product in his hair and maybe (not that he’d admit it) a little gloss and eyeliner. His shirt practically had the slogan ‘I could be yours if you play your cards right’ on it. But every time he tried to smile back at them, he just flashed forward to a month or so later, when they’d be telling him that he couldn’t just expect them to be around on the rare occasions he emerged for air and decided he’d like to pretend to be a boyfriend.

I mean, gloss and eyeliner on those lips and those eyes, who could blame Jared?

The safe and sheltered life behind his camera isn’t enough, now, and Jensen’s set to become the star of his own show – whether he’s ready or not.

This is just. Wow.

*takes deep breath*

I started on the first chapter yesterday evening, couldn't stop thinking about it last night, finished the whole thing this morning. And I've been staring at the screen for a good 10 minutes, trying to think of the right words to properly do this story justice and I can't think beyond fantastic and splendid and amazing.

Think 'Notting Hill' and you'll get the idea. Jared is no Julia Roberts though ( more like Zac Effron, only taller and bigger ), and Jensen's no Hugh Grant. Like, at all. Jensen's as far from adorably bumbling ( bumblingly adorable? ) as you can get. He's flawed, as are his dysfunctional but well-meaning friends, but realistically so. And his stubborness at holding on to his principles is as irritating as it's endearing, and that's what make this Jensen unique and special to me.

The secondary characters are well fleshed-out, and I found myself rooting for Matt and the rest as much as I did Jared and Jensen, and I don't usually do that, identify with the other characters I mean. Their stories are intriguing but not so much that they take your mind off the main story. It's just enough that you want Matt to make up with Jillian, that you want Wayne to be safe, that Chris and Steve will make it with their music. Heck, I even like the Jungle Gym guys!

A truly enjoyable read, this one is a keeper.

And now I just can't get this image out of my mind.

Received by [livejournal.com profile] setissma, J2 AU, R, 2700 words.

This story tugged at my heartstrings so much. Jared and Jensen are childhood buddies, sharing shovels when they were two, co-captains of the football team and they plan on going to college together. And when they finally find each other, it's like all the games they've ever played, cops and robbers in the backyard at six, chasing each other in and out of the treehouse, wrestling over Madden at thirteen, football.

I love stories which begin with them as friends and they fall towards each other naturally, no pushing, no angstying. They are just right together.

Jensen kissed a couple of girls at parties freshman year, but Jared knows there hasn't been anything since. He's known for a long time why that might be, but he's never asked, never gone digging through Jensen's hard drive or underneath his mattress, never pushed. Jared's always understood keeping secrets, and Jensen's trusted him with more important things than that.

Restraint by DarkEmeralds, J2 Regency AU, Rating Mature ( R to NC-17 ), 150,000+ words.

Summary : The calling card said Tristan Jarrett, Viscount Penrith. Beneath that, in a lazy scrawl, was the addendum Mr Acklebury, be so good as to wait on me tomorrow, number 10, Half Moon Street. Yours, &c., Penrith. Mr Acklebury was not sure how he felt about being thus summarily commanded to paint his lordship's portrait.

I love love love this story so very much. Love it. It's one of those that's all consuming you just can't stop reading, one that you'll happily skip meals for, one that'll have you looking at the word count and saying only 150,000 words? I felt a bit disconnected with the real world while reading it, it felt so real to me!

Set in early 19th century England, Restraint reminded me a bit of Cassie's Houseparty. There's Jensen who's an artist in it, and there's a house party that's every bit as memorable and haunting as the one in Cassie's story.

The only thing is, the name John Acklebury initially put me off a little bit. Jared is Tristan Jarrett, Viscount Penrith while Jensen is John Acklebury and while I had no problem with Jared being Tristan Jarrett, Viscount Penrith, I had some trouble picturing John Acklebury looking like Jensen. I remember thinking, in my earlier attempts to read the story, that John Acklebury was Jensen's father in it!

But as I read on, there is no doubt whatsover that John Acklebury is the Jensen that we know of, just as the Viscount is very definitely Jared. And I swooned at the Viscount just like I used to swoon at the Viscounts in Barbara Cartland's historical romances!

I can't recommend this story highly enough. Do read it even if Jared/Jensen wasn't your thing and it's easy to read this as an original fiction, the love story between the quiet and reserved John Acklebury, artist and son of clergyman, and Viscount Penrith, whose reputation as a rake precedes him wherever he goes. It's a love story that's fraught with conflicts and uncertainties and conducted in secret in a society that frowns upon such relationship. A very riveting and engrossing read indeed!

This verse started off as a comment fic, so I guess that's why it's not overtly "heavy", it's basically porn with plot but there's just something about the way it's written that made me think that [livejournal.com profile] ksock is a bona-fide writer in this fandom, the Deleerium of the SPN fandom.

Jensen has a nine to five job. He wears expensive suits, has his own office with a view. Listen Through Silence by [livejournal.com profile] lazy_daze, J2CWrps, 9500 words.

A must read, this is Jensen seen through the eyes of Jared, from when he first met Jensen right up to season 4. I truly had a hard time telling myself that this is just a fic because everything rings true to me, but that's probably because Jared's perception of Jensen ( or rather the author's ) is exactly what I think of him, how their relationship develops along the way, how and when Jared discovers that he's in love with Jensen. Yup, I had to give myself little slaps along the way telling to myself this is just a fic! it's that authentic!

The bad thing is that Jensen is complicated. The good thing is that Jared's smart.

But his real strength has always been those people-smarts. He understands people, really gets them, even when they're different from him; he understands people's motivations, decisions, behaviors and actions. He knows what other people feel well and deep enough that he can fake it for himself if he needs it, which is where the core of his strength as an actor lies.

Which is why he's so drawn to Jensen when they first meet. Jensen is a puzzle.
