Lost : I'm err, lost.
Does anyone on my flist follow Lost faithfully? I used to love that show ( season 1 was awesome! ) but I stopped watching it after the second season. I've started watching season 5 because I want to see Mark Pellegrino in the finale. But unfortunately I couldn't make head or tail of any of the episodes. I'm currently at episode 7 and most of the time I was pulling my hair out by the roots, I was so frustrated.
My kids are avid fans and they said something about the show having several timelines and that the island can be moved? But judging from their shifty eyes, I suspect that they don't really get it either.
I wonder if someone could please give me a condensed version of season 5? I was thinking of going straight to the finale without watching the rest of the episodes, but minus spoilers from the finale. Anyone? Please?

There's so MANY storylines!!

I originally thought there would be 40-50 characters, survivors of the crash. I figured most of the episodes would revolve around some combination of the main 15-16 characters, and others would come in and out as needed.
Then they brought in the Tailies, and the Others, and now the Freighter Folk and others, and there's almost too many groups to keep track of! There's also a time-travel element.
I have to admit I sort of lost interest somewhere around Seasons 3 and 4, and part of it is because I HATE Jack and Kate, and I'm not overly fond of Sawyer. I don't give a damn about their love triangle, so I was bored with all their backstories and potential love stories, etc. But I stuck with the show, because there are a lot of characters I really like.
At the moment, my favorite characters are Desmond...did he show up in Season 2?...and Daniel Faraday, who I think showed up in Season 4. But there have been so many new characters, others that have died, and some that may possibly be in some other state of existence, so it's really hard to keep up with things. But I think it's worth it to slog through it all. Trying to catch up now with the sixth season, or starting again with the fifth, would probably be incredibly frustrating. My mom gave up a few seasons ago. She can't handle the really complex storylines, or any series with any kind of arc or where you have to keep track of what happened last season! :)

The 6th season has started?

You could always use Wikipedia. It gives pretty good summaries of seasons, if I remember correctly.

Btw, did you manage to catch any episode of SPN with Mark Pellegrino in it? He played Lucifer, and he was the reason I decided to watch Lost again, and by the look of it, I am going to watch season 6!

Nope, I've only seen that one whole episode I told you about, with the tooth fairy guy.

I just meant it would be really difficult for anyone to start watching now, without all the backstory. I think it would be incredibly awesome to see this show on DVD from the beginning, especially after it ends, to go back. I bought myself a Christmas present of the first 5 seasons in Blu-Ray. Amazon was selling it for 71% off or something. I'd love to watch it without commercials interrupting the story, and without waiting sixth months or more from the end of one season to the next.

I still have no idea what who where and how Lost is, but Mark Pellegrino was awesome as Jacob. Shades of Lucifer there, eh? Or I suppose it should be Lucifer with shades of Jacob since Pellegrino played Jacob first.
My kid said ( speculated? ) that the Locke who asked Ben to kill Jacob wasn't really Locke but the black-shirted man who was talking to Jacob in the intro of the finale. Is that right?

I think everyone has a ton of questions, and I doubt we'll get all the answers, and I'm certain not everyone will be happy with the conclusion of the series, but I'm betting we find out a whole lot we don't know at this point. I don't think there's time to clear up all the mysteries satisfactorily, and I don't know that I want a clear-cut answer to every single question, but they've done a pretty good job of story-telling.
I do like the fact that we get quicker payoff with SPN, without having to wait three or four seasons to find everything out, but it's so cool when you see how things come together. I hope Lost does as good a job, in this last season, as SPN has done so far, in tying things up.
ETA: For instance, how cool was it when we finally found out where/how Dean got the amulet, and why he always wears it? But now, we find out there's even more to it than we thought. We can see why John might have been the one it was intended for. So, did Sam change destiny, or was that particular act of rebellion part of the plan, or maybe one of many possibilities? And where did "Uncle Bobby" get the amulet, and how did he know it was special, and exactly how much did he know about it? I hope we find that out. But one major difference is that SPN has two main characters, and a couple of others key characters, and the rest play a much smaller role. There's more time to focus on mysteries surrounding the Winchesters and those nearest and dearest to them, instead of the Island and its seeming cast of thousands!

There will definitely be some familiar faces we haven't seen for a while. I haven't heard a peep about Dom, but some others will be there for sure.

Unless it's top secret of course.
