layne67: (GoT Arya)
layne67 ([personal profile] layne67) wrote2011-11-30 05:07 pm

Of kings and bastard sons and princesses.

I've just been spoiled by something from Book 3 *weeps*

I'm wrecked but oh well, it's totally my fault for not paying attention to the author's warning. Yep, I'm reading the fanfics now because, a quarter of the way through Book 2 and Jon and Robb still haven't been reunited yet. Haha, so I'm totally slashing those two though in my defense I'm very much into the theory that Jon is actually a Targaryen so no incest there, half or otherwise. More like kissing cousins maybe ( and that is NOT a spoiler, don't worry ) but heh, who am I kidding ♥Jon/Robb♥

Are there any Jon/Robb fanfics must-read out there? I've gone through a few at AO3 but since none of the authors looked familiar to me, it's a bit tedious going through them one by one. I'd love to read one where Robb is the Alexander to Jon's Hephaestion. Eeeee King of the North and his Lord Snow *dies*

I don't mind a Jon/Daenerys either. Lol they haven't even met yet and I'm already pairing those two. Maybe it's because I love Jon Snow very much that the thought of him being the dragon princess's ( queen ) consort give me so much glee. Though how on earth they're going to hook up I have no idea. They do have a Mormont in common though ...

ION, I do hope that what I read about Kit Harrington ( that's my beloved Jon if you don't know it already ) being in the movie Arthur and Lancelot is true. Kit is Arthur and it's said that Gary Oldman will be Merlin. I don't know the actor who'll be playing Lancelot ( Joel Kinnaman ) but omg, Jon Snow Kit Harrington as Arthur!!!!!

And speaking of Arthur, I like the twist that they gave to the Arthur-Lancelot-Guinevere in the last episode of Merlin. I've been wondering how they were going to do that.

Just wanted to hug you! xoxoox v

I feel like a hug or ten so THANK YOU my angel ♥

I haven't even reached a quarter of the FIRST book. Haha. I'm so terrible at reading actual books it's not funny. ¬____¬

[identity profile] layne67.livejournal.com 2011-12-01 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
Ahaha, I've reached a record fast for the GoT series. I usually read much slower than this. Lol fanfics and LJ are totally to blame for the decline in my book-reading. I used to be able to finish a novel within a couple of days but now 2 months is considered fast.

But yeah, I'm ( relatively ) speed-reading now, I want to know what happen next so bad!

[identity profile] evening-spirit.livejournal.com 2011-11-30 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Jon is actually a Targaryen
I have a theory that Jon is son of that Targaryen prince (Rhaegar? Daenerys' father) and Eddard's sister (Lysenne?). Common theory but so far not confirmed. So yeah, cousins for sure.

And I'm almost done reading Dance with Dragons. I think the best so far. *grin*

Long time no see, ey? Glad you're into "Thrones" and I LOVE Jon too. My favorite alongside Dany and Tyrion.

sorry couldn't edit my last comment so had to delete it, cos I'd made a mistake, I'd put book 3 and I meant book 5, my comment is/was:

that's my theory too, I am about a third of the way into book 5 and we still dont know so whatever the truth, George is keeping it to himself for now, he needs to write faster lol.

[identity profile] layne67.livejournal.com 2011-12-01 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
I wish I can read faster! Lol, I suppose this was what the LoTR fans felt those days when the trilogy was not completed yet.

[identity profile] layne67.livejournal.com 2011-12-01 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
My initial theory was that Jon's mother is a Targaryen but then a couple of fellow fans told me about the theory that was flying around ie Jon being Lyanna and Rhaegar's son and omg I'm TOTALLY into that. And if that's true, that'd made Jon the rightful heir to the Iron Throne, right? Though I'm not sure whether a bastard son has rights to the throne even if both his parents are highborn.

I'n so happy that you're into Thrones, too!! And Tyrion and Dany ( and Robb! ) are my three favourite people other than my sweet Jon who's soon to become Arthur. I adore Arya too, and Eddard omg that was a HEARTBREAK, what happened to him :(

[identity profile] shadowc44.livejournal.com 2011-12-02 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
Butting in here...so many great characters! I have to say, I'm incredibly fond of the direwolves, too.

[identity profile] layne67.livejournal.com 2011-12-02 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
I do hope that Arya will get her Nymeria back!!

[identity profile] shadowc44.livejournal.com 2011-12-02 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, talk about a dangerous duo!

[identity profile] evening-spirit.livejournal.com 2011-12-02 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
And if that's true, that'd made Jon the rightful heir to the Iron Throne, right? Though I'm not sure whether a bastard son has rights to the throne even if both his parents are highborn.

No. Bastard son cannot inherit, no matter who his mother is. BUT, being half-Targaryen would give him rights to the Dragon, which . . . is far better. *GRIN*

[identity profile] shadowc44.livejournal.com 2011-12-01 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
That's a bummer that you got spoiled, but yeah, reading fanfic is dangerous like that! :/ You have my sympathies.

I haven't read any fanfic in that universe at all, so I can't help you with recs, but keep reading the books, there's SO MUCH stuff going on, it's amazing.

[identity profile] layne67.livejournal.com 2011-12-01 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
I SAW the spoiler warning but for some reasons it didn't fully register with me, and I guess it NEVER crossed my mind that THAT was going to happen. And I can't blame anyone but myself :(

The one that I read was quite good, it's Jon/Robb and it's pretty much what I felt about them.

[identity profile] shadowc44.livejournal.com 2011-12-02 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
I have a feeling I know which of several dozens of possible spoilers from that book that it could be, and yeah, not what I expected to happen! But GRRM seems to love pulling the rug out from under the readers.

[identity profile] layne67.livejournal.com 2011-12-02 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
I was so shocked and upset when I read that :(

Someone was saying to me the other day not to get too attached to any of the characters and she was so right.

[identity profile] shadowc44.livejournal.com 2011-12-02 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
Truer words were never spoken! It's like no one is safe. Well, one character may be because apparently GRRM's wife said if he kills that character, that's it, their sex life is over. So far the threat seems to be working, but who knows?

[identity profile] layne67.livejournal.com 2011-12-02 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
Hahahaha. Could that be Jon? Or maybe the imp?

I was googling around for the cast of season 2 just now and my heart dropped when I saw the name Karl Urban came up but apparently that was just a rumour :/

But I like it that there'll be Natalie Domer in it. I loved her when she played Anne Boleyn in The Tudors.

[identity profile] shadowc44.livejournal.com 2011-12-02 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not saying, but let's just say you're going in the wrong direction. :)

[identity profile] layne67.livejournal.com 2011-12-02 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
Oh but do, do tell! I mean, it's not spoilerish, right? Other than that character hasn't been killed off ( yet ).

Is it ... the Kingslayer?

[identity profile] shadowc44.livejournal.com 2011-12-02 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
Nope. I think it's more like a mama bear reaction. I have no idea if they have kids or not, I don't recall having read about any, but I would imagine she would end up feeling rather maternal about a lot of characters.

[identity profile] layne67.livejournal.com 2011-12-02 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
Aahh, then I'm guessing it's one of the kids then, maybe sweet Bran?

[identity profile] shadowc44.livejournal.com 2011-12-02 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
Closer. I'll give you another hint, the name starts with A.

BTW, my counselor was just telling me the other day, she thinks I spend too much time relating to fictional characters, and maybe I should try to just read or watch things for entertainment, without getting so emotionally involved. I am shocked and appalled at such a notion, I don't know where she gets that idea. What is this "entertainment" thing she's talking about?

Besides, sometimes I get overly invested in real people, too, just not necessarily people I actually know, LOL!

[identity profile] layne67.livejournal.com 2011-12-02 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
Yayyyyyyy it's fiesty and courageous Arya!!! *approves* Hahaha, I'll kill Martin if he killed her off. I already feel like killing him for what he did to Eddard, and that other character. Grr .. heheh, his initials lol.

Nothing wrong with getting invested in the characters, as long as you don't carry out the threat of killing the authors for real!

[identity profile] shadowc44.livejournal.com 2011-12-02 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
Exacrly! And as long as you do occasionally remember they *are* fictional characters. But how can you stop caring? I agree with you, I'm furious at Martin for a number of things, but I wouldn't want any harm to come to him. How would we ever know how this whole thing ends?

[identity profile] layne67.livejournal.com 2011-12-02 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
Btw, during my googling of all things GoT, I saw pics of the actress who plays Dany. Oh my, she looked totally different from the character she played. And Kit Harrington is sooooooo handsome in his tux!!!
Edited 2011-12-02 04:35 (UTC)

[identity profile] shadowc44.livejournal.com 2011-12-02 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
It's amazing the transformations they can make! I'm guessing most of the time they must go with the actors they feel can capture the spirit of the character. I think it's easier to try to make someone look fairly close to the book description, than find someone who already seems to look right but just doesn't "get" the character. I think they've done an outstanding job with the casting so far.

And yes, Kit Harrington does clean up well! Not that there's anything wrong with how he looks when playing Jon, but you know what I mean.

[identity profile] layne67.livejournal.com 2011-12-02 07:36 am (UTC)(link)
I certainly do!!!! And I thought it wonderful that he's roughly the same age as the actor who played Robb, maybe slightly younger, real=reel *happy sigh*

[identity profile] shadowc44.livejournal.com 2011-12-02 02:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, Jon was born before Robb. Not by much, but I think he was born before Robb was conceived. I think that's a major reason Catelyn was so unkind to Jon, thinking he could potentially be a real threat to her children's inheritance, or try to cause trouble in that way. The later books go into a bit more detail about the chronology of things, but we still don't know the identity of Jon's mother, though there are a few popular theories. I think the one you like is the most likely, and it's become the most popular theory, I'm pretty sure.

Keep in mind that even if you read slowly, you're likely to read Dances with Dragons long before the next book is finished, let alone published. I believe Martin isn't even going to start working on it till January.

[identity profile] layne67.livejournal.com 2011-12-02 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, Jon is older? I thought Cat was already with baby when Ned went to war but then, that was just my impression from Cat's thoughts in book 1. I'll need to read that part again but if the latter books had more details on it, you must be right. Hmmmm, but Robb did have the older brother vibe with him but maybe that's just because he was legit and Jon was not, so there was the whole insecurity thing going on with Jon.

[identity profile] shadowc44.livejournal.com 2011-12-03 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Now I'm confused! I couldn't find out on the sites I've tried so far, but in the back of each book, it gives descriptions of the characters of each house, including their ages. Robb and Jon are both fourteen. I'll keep researching this, because now I'm not so sure who's older!

[identity profile] layne67.livejournal.com 2011-12-02 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
First Eddard, then that character :(((

[identity profile] shadowc44.livejournal.com 2011-12-02 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
I know, and I think he said he kept putting off that scene because it was so very hard to write.

When you've finished the books, I'd love to discuss the series with you in more detail, but I'm afraid if I go into too much now I'll give away an accidental spoiler. There are still two books to go in the series, and I really want to know how some storylines pan out.

So many times it seems to come down to a question of revenge or mercy, and sometimes they both seem to be the wrong answer. We've seen that a few times on Supernatural, haven't we?

[identity profile] layne67.livejournal.com 2011-12-02 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
I'm now at the part where Jon and his black brothers doing their rangering to find Benjen Stark and they couldn't find a single wildling around.

[identity profile] shadowc44.livejournal.com 2011-12-02 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't been too thrilled with a lot of the wildling storyline, but it's a damned good question, where the hell is Benjen, especially when he seems like he'd be such a help!

I keep thinking I should go downstairs to watch the X Factor, which started about 10 minutes ago, but I already deliberately spoiled myself as to which two got sent home, and I am mightily pissed off regarding one, and happy about the other. I think I'll be better off to just watch it when I'm less annoyed, since my DVR is watching it for me. I can fast-forward through all the boring stuff that pads out the hour, and watch the relevant 10 minutes or so.
