OMG they *moved*!

Bought catfish at the market this morning. I'm not that fond of them but my helper loves catfish so I bought some for her to cook whatever way she likes. The thing is, those darn fish lived for quite some time even after they've been gutted ( done by the fish-man, no way I'm gonna touch them, dead or alive ). And there I was shrieking like an idiot when they omg, wriggled inside the plastic bag. I swear that they were trying to jump out of the bag. People around me were staring at me and I was like, catfish, they're still ALIVE, and holding the bag as far away from me as possible. Eeeps. I'm never ever gonna buy fresh catfish again. Ever.

Note : The fish has been shoved inside the freezer, waaay back inside the freezer. I hope they're DEAD now.

On a completely different topic,

Don't think I could love him more *sighs*

My grandmother had once two herrings hopping of the pan and through the kitchen. She just squealed and grandfather had to remove them. But these fish had not even heads!
*points on icon* :D

[identity profile] layne67.livejournal.com 2007-07-30 10:58 am (UTC)(link)
LOL that's funny! I think I'd fall dead if the fish jumped right out of the frying pan. But your icon looks delicious. Was that the trying-to-eascape herrings?

May I just say "yaaay" for Jensen! <3 <3 <3

Ew, I love catfish, but it's always been completely dead before I ate it, thank goodness. My grandmother used to chop the heads off her chickens to cook them for dinner, and they would jump up and run around the yard headless sometimes. Zombie!chickens.

[identity profile] layne67.livejournal.com 2007-07-30 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't mind the chickens so much. I remember when I was a kid I used to watch, fascinated, the just-slaughtered chickens running around all bloody. Heh, I was evol that way.

But not when it comes to things that are wet and wriggly and slimy. Yucks.

[identity profile] hansbekhart.livejournal.com 2007-07-30 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I once ate fish that was served sashimi style, with ice on the plate, then the fish, then more ice, then the raw meat piled on top. It had all been done so quickly that when we reached for the meat, it snapped at our chopsticks. Definitely the freshest fish I've ever had, though!

[identity profile] layne67.livejournal.com 2007-07-30 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
No way. Ewwwww! I would have been jumping out of my chair and running out of the restaurant screaming my head off!

Ahhh! Lol, it mighta not bothered me too much, as I fish! But still, that's a bit unsettling. DIE already!! :O
Next time, have them bash the fish's heads in. Sounds terrible, but when I go fishing, I carry a knife to spear the head around the brain area. That way, they die quick. But who knows??
There's a vid on youtube where this guy taped their dinner out at an Asian restaurant (Japanese, Chinese... I can't remember!) and they have fish heads on a person's plate--and their lips move! Everyone freaked out, lol!

[identity profile] layne67.livejournal.com 2007-07-30 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
They did do that, bash the heads in, I mean, and yet they're still alive! Funny thing yesterday, I took out the fish out of the freezer ( I was at my workplace ), they were not moving anymore thank goodness, put them in the car. I was driving when my handphone vibrated and I freaked out, thinking that they had come back from the dead!

LOL. Fish are awfully hard to kill, aren't they? Teeny tiny brains, they have. Went deep-sea fishing a few years ago and came home with cod and grouper. They'd been out of the water (and on ice) for hours, and I still had to chase them around the garden and do them in with a hammer before they gave up the ghost. *g*

[identity profile] layne67.livejournal.com 2007-07-30 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL and no one taped that? Gosh, you could win that 50 grand for the funniest home video *g*

Heh.

I am the child who would gut and scale her own fish in the backyard after my mommy taught me how. I liked to put the hearts into plastic baggies and see how they would beat for. I think the record was something like 7-8 minutes.

[identity profile] layne67.livejournal.com 2007-07-31 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
LOL that'd be a fascinating thing to do. Think I'd enjoy doing the same thing, watching the hearts beating, I mean. But NOT hold a wriggling fish. I can gut them, no problem, as long as they are dead :D

[identity profile] layne67.livejournal.com 2007-07-31 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
Believe me, that thought had indeed crossed my mind. The only thing that kept me holding on valiantly to the fish was that the people there knew me, omg, I don't think I could live down being the talk of the town if I dropped the fish and ran off!
