And it's like I'm re-living that other episode all over again. Can't really say that much more about this episode that hasn't been said elsewhere - from the keyboard mesh to the well-thought out, detailed reviews. But
teand summed it all up pretty well here.
You know, I had been thinking that there's no possible way for them to make another 'Hell-House' or 'Tall Tales', not in this season anyway, what with Dean's soul hanging in the balance. But they did it pretty well here. Black comedy yes, but still - Dean and the bra, and the spiked-up hair full of suds, and the piano falling on top of Dean omg it felt so wrong to laugh there.
And the two of them talking at the same time? God, I can't wait to watch the DVD extras for season 3. They had a hard time closing the Impala door simultaneously - I wonder how many takes they had to do for that scene.
And Sam ordering Dean to "Eat your breakfast". My heart stopped for a minute I swear it did. Along with the TINGLING of course.
But laughing and tinglings aside, this episode seriously, seriously breaks my heart. Because Sam without his Dean? Is too, too PAINFUL to contemplate. Btw, am I the only one who's disappointed that there was no scruffy Sam after Dean died that last time? Scruffy, unshaven Sam, with his face all expressionless and DEAD *flaaails* And oh, wouldn't it be awesome if Cujo there had been Sadie or Harley? Or was the thought of one of his dogs attacking Jensen unacceptable to Jared? :-0
A brother's grief.

Another brother's grief.

And the relief.

Another time, another place. But the same relief for a brother brought back to life.

Dean just giving in to Sam.

Dean's squeeze-hugs must be really tight. I can't help but think of Jess in WIAWSNB when Dean hugged her!

Help sought. And more.

Help unsought and unwelcomed. Bobby!

God I LOVE this frikking show. And Kripke kept surpassing himself in the last three episodes - the Witches and the Dreams and now this.
Oh please, please let there be a season 4. Go here to sign the petition for another season of the Winchesters.
OH BOYS!!!

Date: 2008-02-16 02:39 pm (UTC)But no, really, the trickster's not into torture the way demons are. The way he goes for people with big egos suggests he's got at least some interest in human dealings. The trickster doesn't want demons to rule the earth because they'd probably enslave the human race and slaves don't have any big egos to burst. And have you tried playing a prank on a powerful demon? Those guys have no sense of humour.
Plus, he's an awesome guy and totally likes the Winchesters.

Date: 2008-02-16 05:56 pm (UTC)I think the way they did it was perfect. It was so heart-breaking to see Sam turn into this ice-cold disciplined machine. You get the feeling that this was the only way he had of keeping himself from falling apart. He turned into his father -- but even worse, because he didn't have anything or anyone in his life except hunting and tracking down the Trickster, all the while knowing that his brother's in Hell. What a horror. What a sucker-punch to the guts! Definitely one of the most gripping episodes of this show, period.
The Trickster's a loose canon -- he's a god in his own right and he doesn't serve anyone except himself, good or evil. I can't imagine that free agent spirits like this would have it too good under a New Demonic World Order. They thrive on the random and the ironic, not malice and control.

Date: 2008-02-16 06:14 pm (UTC)And the other great thing about this episode is that there's no Bela or Ruby!!

Date: 2008-02-16 09:42 pm (UTC)The absence of Ruby, and Bela especially, is why this episode was so well-focused. And also think about it...the Trickster's not going to insert them into the fake reality he's constructed for Sam. He might not even know who they are! So extra kudos to the show for getting that right.

Date: 2008-02-17 03:33 am (UTC)Don't you think that Dean was so damn sexy when he was tying up the laces of his boots, grooving to that song, pointing his finger at Sam over and over and over again?
And after this, Sam is SO NOT GOING TO LET DEAN OUT OF HIS SIGHT, EVER!!
I *LOVE* my boys.
ps a friend told me that the hug was something that Jared did spontaneously, that it wasn't originally in the script SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

Date: 2008-02-17 01:45 pm (UTC)Ditto to everything you said! I was just telling a friend that my brothers *never* brushed their teeth together, and Sam was staring at Dean gargling with the head thrown back, exposing that sexy, sexy neck!
And how awesome is it that Dean has a blue toothbrush while Sam's pinkish purple?
/is very, very happy too!

Date: 2008-02-17 05:33 pm (UTC)Do you know that I have a sort of squick about brushing my teeth with people present? I never even would let my husband see me brush my teeth! So for SamnDean to do it means the ultimate in intimacy! Hahaha!
And from now on I'm flying you over here to watch The Show with me. You see all the teensy details of everything. I didn't even take note of the toothbrush! I'm so glad Sam and I share the same taste in toothbrush color!

Date: 2008-02-18 01:19 am (UTC)Btw, it was a friend who noted the colour of their toothbrushes, I didn't notice it either, was distracted by that long expense of Dean's neck - gargling and gargling and gargling. Sam seemed to be entranced by that, yeah?

Date: 2008-02-19 03:12 am (UTC)- They talk at the same time.
- Sam's 'Eat your breakfast!' :D
- The ways Dean dies - I could never guess them beforehand!
- The way Dean simply yields when being hugged, unlike Sam at AHBL. I know he was in pain but then.
- Sam on the parking lot when he hugged dead!Dean? He sounds like the one in gag reel when he couldn't open the bottle. And that made me laugh because he sounds as if he were choked with laugh instead of tears. :P
- I agree with you Sam doesn't look too wretched with his brother dying. But I can accept that after I read Oselle's reply.
- You know, when Sam took the bullet out of his body, I thought somehow they changed bodies and it was Sam who was shot instead of Dean. :P I know, slowpoke in my part, but it can be a great bunny.
What else? I want to say many more but I can't remember. I just watched it once! :D

Date: 2008-02-19 03:33 am (UTC)I so wanted to see scruffy Sam, not during all those months but maybe during the first couple of days or so, before he became that mean and terribly efficient KILLING MACHINE OMG *flails*
But no! I didn't see Sam thinking it funny when Dean died at that parking lot!!! I bled for Sam, I really did, esp when it looked like he was expecting for the day to begin all over again and it didn't. Oh SAM!!!
SO MUCH LOVE!!!!!
