Omg. I just bought 3 more books today. Those, on top of about 20 more just sitting on my bookshelves, waiting to be read. I used to read an average of 5 books per month, plus magazines which I'd read from cover to cover, yup, including the editorial list. But ever since I discovered fanfics, it now takes as long as 2 weeks to finish one. My current book is by James Patterson, I've been reading it sporadiacally for quite some time now. I swear, his chapters are getting shorter and shorter. Which brings to my mind Sidney Sheldon who used to be my favourite author. With him, even the sentences are getting shorter and more abrupt each time. The last time I finished a book in a day was Harry Potter's Order of the Phoenix. And that only because I wanted to know who died. Got a terrible headache the next day too.

The thing is, buying books has become a bit of a compulsion with me. I have a small library at home.My husband said since I'm reading so much fanfiction now I should stop buying books, save some money too. But no, everytime I go to the book store, just to look mind you,  I always end up buying at least one. Here's hoping that when the next Harry Potter comes out ( I pre-ordered Phoenix ) I'd be sensible and wait for the cheaper paperback edition, or perhaps I should be even more sensible and just borrow it from ny niece, or maybe not read it at all.

A friend of mine once said that he himself could never understand people who enjoy reading from the computer. All those scrolling and straining one's neck and eyes peering at the screen. Printing them out made him felt like he's reading some lecture notes. Well, I told him that with good, really good fics, you wouldn't feel all that. And I've printed rims, I mean reams and reams of fics on paper, had them bound and they feel just as good as the usual books. I wish I could  recommend him some of my favourite slash fics but I dont think he'd want to read them. He's a man after all. Do men read slash?

And another thing, with fanfic, if it's not good I can just stop reading it. I've yet to not finish a book, no matter how bad it is, I'll just slog through and make myself finish it. Well, except The Silmarillion, I've tried 3 times and still couldn't get past chapter 3.Saw The Pacifier just now. AAArgh

[livejournal.com profile] lij_girl  got to watch Hooligans and I got Van Diesel!! The kids enjoyed it though so that's alright. It's not too bad.
