Just saw the show for the first time just now. Not sure what the episode was called but it was the one with Sophia, and Morgana having visions of seeing Arthur killed by Sophia.

I enjoyed it! And I could certainly see why people are slashing Merlin/Arthur. Not enough for me to really squee about it ( not yet anyway ) but the feeling that I got when watching it reminds me of those days when I first started watching Supernatural - a mixture of enjoyment/bemusement/anticipation. I don't think I'm ready to embrace Merlin fully yet, I've got my plate full with SPN, but it's good to know that I would have back-up ( heh ) when SPN is over.

Btw, it's probably just me, but I didn't really get the "olden days" feel with Merlin, you know, the feel that you got when you're watching say, The Lord of the Ring. There were times that I felt that the lines and gestures were rather ... contemporary. But I enjoyed it all the same and I'm planning to keep watching it!

I like Merlin... the way I like Chuck. It's an amusing show that I enjoy while it's on but I forget it quickly once it goes on hiatus. I never really fell under the spell of Merlin!slash and I find the amount of slash fic this show gathered rather bemusing.

I quite enjoyed it though I still think the boys are too 'immature'. Heheh.

But where did you see it just now? It's all Commander in Chief tonight in Hallmark. :(

*bounce bounce bounce* I love this show SO MUCH and I can't even really explain why. I think it's that Merlin is so goofy and endearing and that Arthur is all stern and prattish but yet they both love each other SO MUCH and will DIE FOR EACH OTHER. And you're right in that the setting is olden and yet there's a contemporary feel to it. I think it's because the show doesn't take itself too seriously. I kind of like that in some ways...I hope you can watch more episodes!! Episode 10 is just...guh! I need to start watching these episodes again! :D

Yay for you! Merlin isn't SN - not that deep or well acted but it's good enough to enjoy the ride.
Watch the whole season - you'll like it even better. They're adorably slashy and nice - and watch extras from dvd - not much fun as SN but interesting somehow.

I don't have the desire yet to read any of the fics but then it's still too early to say, I've only watched one episode. It took me quite some time to really get into SPN before!

I saw it on a local network. It's on Hallmark tomorrow, right?

Heheh I'm not at that stage yet though I got the slashy vibe between them very, very strongly! I'm not really that familiar with the legend of Arthur but Merlin had always been this old wizard in my head, rather like Gandalf and Dumbledoor, and I kept thinking of Richard Gere when I think of Arthur even though he actually played Lancelot *facepalm* So yeah, seeing those two characters being played by two cute, young actors would take some getting use to. Not that it's any hardship at all of course *g*

it's because the show doesn't take itself too seriously.

I've seen people describing 'The Reaper' and 'Primeval' in the same way and I wonder what is meant by that?

LOL I probably couldn't afford to devote the time to and be invested in two fandoms. As it is SPN is so emotionally draining so for the moment Merlin is just for me to enjoy, something that I could just sit back and relax while watching it, and not you know, hold my breath and cry and despair over!

Layne, you are more enthusiastic about it then I was when I watched my first episode (the first one) or than Claudia was when she watched hers (the fifth one, with Lancelot) so I am hopeful that as you keep watching and check out a few fics you may find the kind of LOVE AND GLEE AND AWESOMENESS that Claudia and I have found in our awesome shiny new fandom. :D

That said, I will not be upset if it doesn't work out! I'm happy for you that you've found so much to squee about with Sam and Dean (and Castiel and so on) and I just, wow, it's really exciting for me to have found that same kind of squee with Merlin. Hooray for slashy tv shows and fandoms omg!!!

There's another episode on tonight, this time on our cable TV. No idea what episode this one's going to be either. Are they only in their first season now?

Lancelot's going to be in it too? Richard Gere? Heheh.

I've not had a chance to watch it yet. It's not on TV here yet but I have the first fourteen episodes dl'd. And now I just need me some time to chill! I've not been in a hurry coz I just wasn't sure - it didn't look that OMG to me and the talking dragon part seemed a bit far out but heaps on my flist are fans and reckon I should give it a go. I think a marathon viewing is in order.

I've just watched the very first episode just now, and I can't help but think of Jensen from [livejournal.com profile] felisblanco's 'Doors of Time'!

'Merlin''s aired on not one, but two TV networks here, and the one I just saw just now was the very first episode and Merlin reminds me of Felisblanco's Doors!Jensen. Merlin was born with magic too!

It's quite light in essence, nothing heavy or too angsty, and young Merlin in it is quite unlike the Merlin I had in my head all this while, which was Gandalf-like!

Have you seen Covington Cross? It's an old series, about a noble family of Middle Age England.

Watching Merlin is like watching Covington Cross, though in many ways, Covington Cross is much better.

No, I haven't seen Covington Cross.

Hee, Arthur looks a bit like Jensen, doesn't he? Hmmm, now I want to read J2 fic where young Jensen is Arthur and young Jared is Merlin :DD

Dian, have you read this (http://felisblanco.livejournal.com/856417.html)? Oh Dian, it's my favourite story of all time, and Jensen in it is like a modern-day Merlin, oh, do, do read it if you haven't already! It's absolutely exquisite and I'm so in love with that story!

I will start reading it soon. It's because I have so many fanfics to read, I don't know which one I have to read first.

Dian, if you don't mind spoileries, you might like to download the soundtrack to the story first. The soundtrack reads like a sypnosis of it, and the songs are really lovely.

Here are the songs and musics for Part One (http://felisblanco.livejournal.com/854766.html) and Part Two (http://felisblanco.livejournal.com/860756.html).

But like I said, they're spoilery. Don't read the accompanying notes if you don't want to be spoiled!

Hmm, it still works for me. Click on the zip link, or maybe you could download the songs separately, she provided the links for each one individually!

Really? He has that unique innocent quality like Felis's Jensen? I might enjoy that then.

I think I should have a merlin marathon on the weekend. I think his bowl cut hair turned me off too!

Merlin's adorably goofy, and it's his ability to do magic that reminds me of Doors!Jensen. Jensen's more angsty than Merlin!

But it's Arthur that makes my heart goes into ectopics *nods*

:D

Let me guess, young!Jensen???

EDIT: It worked and yes I can definately see a similarity with Jensen. Not quite as spectacular though.
