Oh that was good. I really and truly enjoyed that. Definitely one of the better episodes. It was gruesome and gross, yes, but so much pretties, too! I love Gabriel in it and I’m sad that he wouldn’t be around anymore. I was almost in tears when he died. And Lucifer finally showed his true colours, didn’t he? No more of his I love too much crap.
Sam and Dean seemed to be sidelined a little but I found that I didn't quite actually mind. I felt that Sam and Dean are truly back to being the brothers that they were.
And all those gods, the episode could easily have become weird or crackstatic or plain bad but it somehow didn't. Not to me anyway. It was awesome!

Date: 2010-04-24 12:23 am (UTC)I really liked the episode except I too was sad when Gabriel bit the dust. Lucifer did seem kind of sad after Gabe was dead but then he's so self involved I'm sure he figured out a way to make it all about his poor problems.
Gabriel called it like it was though. Daddy brought home the new baby and you had a temper tantrum. I loved that part and it summed it up nicely the way Lucifer did and is acting.

Date: 2010-04-24 12:48 am (UTC)However as I was watching, when Gabriel came back from being killed by Kali, I was wait a minute, he didn't die! Of course, he's a trickster! But then in the end he did. *pout*
I confess I was a bit bug eyed by how the show treated these gods from other cultures. I especially felt kinda iffy about them including the Hindu gods since Hindu is still much alive and practiced today. Also the way Lucifer just squashed every one of these gods easily gave me a bit of headache. But overall, I liked how the episode moved the story forward.
And by the way, how did Dean kill the Chinese Kitchen God? It was some kind of a stake, wasn't it? How did he come by that handily?
Also this episode kinda tip the scale for me thinking Dean and Sam would do what they need to do by being them, not the destined archangels in the end. \o/
I just hope it would end with Dean being the one kill/trap Lucifer (with help of course) like he made the killing shot that ended YED.

Date: 2010-04-24 01:42 am (UTC)I was pretty alarmed by the anvil-like parallels between Lucifer killing his little brother, really thinking he's doing the right thing. I hope it wasn't foreshadowing. Unless they're going to bring everyone back to life somehow for Season 6. I don't know how many times they can get away with killing the main characters and bringing them back. Not that I'm ever going to object about the end result, but Kripke is as bad as Joss Whedon at killing characters the fans really like.

Date: 2010-04-24 04:12 am (UTC)I probably would have been offended if I were a Hindu but then well, this is Supernatural. The Archangel Gabriel had sex with humans! He liked candies! God has abandoned them! I could never watch SPN and think real religion at the same time.
From here (http://tigriswolf.livejournal.com/417337.html).

Me, too, Jane. I guess it's now unlikely that there'll be a showdown between Jensen!Michael and Pellegrino!Lucifer but I'd take Dean-Lucifer!
I LOVE it when Kali said "no" to Dean, you know, when he was trying to hit on her. That was awesome!

Date: 2010-04-24 04:16 am (UTC)He tortured the boys, it's true, but it was in such a fun way! Well, except for the 6-month period for Sam in Mystery Spot, that was cruel. But oh, the time that he gave the boys in TV-land!!!

Date: 2010-04-24 04:23 am (UTC)Dismissed and somewhat diminished, too. You know, I guess that's what it must look like if SPN were an ensembled cast. Lucky for us it's not so!!
No, I don't think ( I hope not anyway ) that Lucifer killing Gabriel was any kind of foreshadowing. Show has implicated that the Sam-Dean relationship is parallel to Lucifer-Michael, not Gabriel. So unless they're hinting that Adam is going to die at one of the brothers' hands, Sam probably since Sam=Lucifer, I don't think the brothers are going to kill each other.
I'd love to see Kali again! I think the actress was good, and I just love it when she said "No" to Dean with just the right amount of haughtiness, the I'm-god-you're-a-mere-human look was PRICELESS!

Date: 2010-04-24 04:41 am (UTC)I wouldn't be surprised if Sam kills Adam, if Sam does end up wearing Lucifer to the prom, but I think that's one of those things that would be very hard for fans to forgive. Even for the fans who don't like the guy, there's a difference between killing some random person who's possessed, and Sam's only younger brother.
I do NOT want to see either Sam or Dean kill the other, whether they have any control over their own bodies or not.
I'd like to see Kali again, but I'd prefer it if she lost the blood samples she got from the boys. It would be nice if she turned into an ally rather than an adversary.
It was a bit disappointing that Lucifer was so easily able to kill all those other gods. We really didn't get to see much of them, except to get the impression that they all like to eat humans. I don't recall that from what I've heard of the ones represented there, but I suppose I could be wrong. I think it's just something they threw in to be gross.
And talk about gross...Pestilence! Yechhhh! I don't know how the boys will get his ring without getting close enough to be snotted on, but it would be nice if they were immune.
I've been thinking all along that the reason Sam said "Yes" in Detroit in the future Dean saw was because Lucifer was killing such a huge number of people, possibly through the Croatoan virus or another virus. I think if he were confronted with something like, "I'm just going to keep on doing this till you feel guilty enough to say yes. Within the next hour, the entire city of Detroit will be wiped out, unless you cooperate." I think under those circumstances Sam would cave, maybe hoping there would be some way he could stop Lucifer from doing anything else to kill off humans. I don't WANT to see that, but it does make sense to me.

Date: 2010-04-24 04:58 am (UTC)But that would imply that Sam thought he would still have control over his body even with Lucifer inside, wouldn't it? But Sam would be gone once he said yes, same way Dean would be gone if he said yes to Michael. Only their bodies would remain but the Sam ( and Dean ) would be no more!
I think they would say yes only if the other was in danger of being killed, the way Dean almost said yes in 'Point of no return'.

Date: 2010-04-24 05:12 am (UTC)I guess that's true, the boys would lose their personality/soul or whatever makes them individuals if they were possessed. Which means Adam is gone anyway.
I have another theory, that if the boys do both say Yes (and I'm not sure why Dean would need to unless he thinks there's some way to save Adam), if one kills the other, there would probably be no need for the "winner" to keep the meat suit. Maybe God would intervene one more time and restore the boys in their own bodies. Or hell, give the fangirls a break and let them be put in the wrong body first before it gets straightened out!
ETA: This is the first episode in a long time that's really kind of scared me, and made me really worry about the boys. It just seemed like the odds were totally against them, till Gabriel showed up, and then when Lucifer showed up. Despite Dean's speech, there wasn't much they could do on their own to get out of there.

Date: 2010-04-24 10:25 am (UTC)It was also the first time ever that I genuinely smiled at the sight of GhostFacers. What were they doing there BTW? They were the ones who filmed Gabe with that chick but I think that was it, right? Totally nuts. :D
Boys . . . Oh, boys . . . Great show this week (as most weeks anyway ;)

Date: 2010-04-24 10:40 am (UTC)How did you like Kali? This is a dig at Layne as well, because the actress was on BSG too. ;) She wasn't all that awesome but here, I really enjoyed her performance. :)
As for religion, well true that Lucy managed to get rid of them far too easily but I liked how they said that this is a "Judeo-Christian Apocalipse" and that they were here longer and that the angels should just shut up. Note that Allah wasn't there and I didn't see Rama or Vishnu, or Krishna. I'm not sure if Buddha is considered a god, or rather more like a prophet and I'm not sure if there are any gods in Taoism, I think it's more like a philosophy of life. Those religions weren't really represented there, and from Greek/Roman mythology we'd only seen Mercury, no Zeus/Jupiter, no Poseidon/Neptun. I think all those gods are still out there and even though I think this is the first and the last time that we see other cultures' gods on this show, I take it as Kripke's nod toward them. True, I speak as a person who was raised in Christianity but now I'm not Christian any more, and truth be told "my" god is the closest to Kripke's as I believe "he doesn't give a damn". :)

Date: 2010-04-24 01:54 pm (UTC)Ooh, I would have loved to see Zeus or Poseidon or Hades! And if Jake Abel were in the episode as well, he would feel right at home with the Greek gods! :D

I LOVE the Ghostfacers! It was a promo for their Ghostfacers webisode series which unfortunately can only be viewed by people in the US. But I think it's on YouTube already.

Date: 2010-04-26 02:04 am (UTC)I love how the brothers are very much together in this whole ep! Like, physically! The only time they were apart were when they were scouting out the place, and when Dean had his chat with Gabriel in the car. One of my fave scenes is pretty insignificant, but I loved when they tried to sneak away from the table when the gods were arguing. LOL

Date: 2010-04-26 02:18 am (UTC)Lucifer's vessel is falling apart and I can see him redoubling his effort to get Sam to say yes and that's a scary thought! I don't want that to happen not only because of Sam but because I don't want to see Mark Pellegrino go!
My favourite scene was when Kali said "No" when Dean hit on her. I thought that was PRICELESS lol.

It's like reading that "First Born" fic all over again. :D:D:D:D:D
I read a spoiler sometimes ago about a big character died and I never thought that it was Gabriel.
But now, I guess the boys have more companions; the wonder-half-demon boy, and now Kali.
How about Michael? So far no mention whether Michael will be in the boys's side or the angels' side.
We will see to that.
