omg

I've just finished reading The Sheltered Heart and I'm still reeling from it. Literally.

Thank you so much [livejournal.com profile] i_o_r_h_a_e_l for pointing me to it. I would never have found this gem of a story if not for you.

(((( You!! )))

For those who have not read it yet, the story is set in the 19th century, in Victorian London, and as the author said - Imagine something between Dickens and Little Lord Fauntleroy, if you’ll forgive me.

It's summarized as Viggo Mortensen, Royal Sculptor to Queen Victoria, rescues little orphan Elijah from a potentially iniquitous life in a male brothel in London's seamy East End. He conceals the child's whereabouts from his former abductors and adopts him as his ward.

The story takes us from the absolutely adorable 6-yr-old Elijah to Elijah at the brink of young adulthood. There's also a side-story of another couple ( I won't spoil it for those who intend to read this fic ) that truly pulled at my heart-strings.

So does anyone else read this story and love it as much as I do?

Speaking of 19th century fics, I LOVE fics written in past centuries settings. There is just something in the way the stories are written that I totally adore. And I admire the authors too, because it's hard enough to write fics in present-day settings as it is.

So I'm very happy indeed that in the past few weeks there have been a deluge of these fics.

Here are some of them -

The Saga of Elijah - A viking AU. Elijah is the Lord of a homestead in newly pioneered Iceland around 900 AD, when his uncle comes home from a voyage bringing treasure, spices and exotic slaves. Flawlessly written by [livejournal.com profile] misspince and the exquisite description of olden days Iceland had me enthralled from start to finish. OB/EW pairing, WIP.

Lucifer's Angel Summary : Set in the 19th century. Orlando is a wealthy aristocrat who falls in love with Elijah, a prostitute who lives in a brothel and knows nothing about love. Also a WIP, well-researched with gorgeous manips accompanying each chapter. Chapter 3 is up and hopefully chapter 4 is round the corner. *nudges [livejournal.com profile] aranel80

Marquis - 18th Century Sword-wielding Orlando. What can I say - it's 18th century. And it's [livejournal.com profile] deleerium's. *swoons in true 18th century fashion*

12th century Orlijah in bed. Written by the lovely [livejournal.com profile] talesinbloom as part of an epic novel the 28-drabble-meme. I need more of this!

[livejournal.com profile] abundantlyqueer wrote in tales' journals these three-part ficlets - Williamsburg 1770, Masque: London, 1771, Pastorale: Essex, 1772.

Lastly, this nugget - Angsty Orlando from [livejournal.com profile] deleerium's Knight universe - heavenly.

And I just cant wait for [livejournal.com profile] wynterhawk's version of Knight!Orlijah :D

And now, if I may be so bold, I would like to propose a toast.

*raises glass*

To the future – may there be more utterly delightful stories for us all to enjoy.

Now I'm off to Middle-Earth for the equally delightful Springfics!
