May. 24th, 2005 10:37 amI really do love Annette Benning. I saw her in Being Julia last night and she's absolutely brilliant as Julia Lambert. It's a pity that she lost the Academy Award to Hilary Swank. The movie itself is fabulous ( 1938 London - the era of Houseparty, I keep seeing Elijah and Dominic in the background ) and the actor who played Annette's son is this really beautiful young man who reminded me of Elijah. But then everytime I see young, beautiful, smallish actors I'd be thinking of Elijah and I'd usually get kind of frustrated that Elijah is not in that role. But back to Annette Benning, one of the reasons that she's one of my favourite actress is that she's such a happy person that she projects out in most of her roles. Her happiness, whether in films or during interviews is so, well, infectious for want of a better word. Some people are blessed with a happy personality and I think she's one of the lucky ones. Goldie Hawn is another. Just a couple of days ago I saw her on Parkinson and she said that when she was young she was asked what she wanted to be when she grew up and her answer was "To be happy". Such a beautiful answer.
As for myself, I'm a little bit of a manic-depressive, one moment euphoric and the next I'll be a bit sad, sometimes for no reason. Not the full-blown bipolar, I can still control my emotions. And whenever I'm down I'd usually go shopping, nothing like retail therapy to bring back the euphoria. Or I'd watch the LOTR dvds, not the films per se but the behind the scenes ones, or the Easter Eggs. Or I'd play with my baby. Or I'd watch Annette Benning!
