The World's A Small Child in the Dark by [livejournal.com profile] stele3

Read it and laugh and cry and smile and cringe, yes, cringe, because Dean has this list, you see, of things that he wants to do before his year is up; some of them are funny, some are heart-breaking and some are downright crazy. Dean wants to live life to the fullest, no holds barred and Sam is right behind him every step of the way. But despite indulging Dean in his whims and fancies, Sam never let himself forget that at the end of the day, ( or year ), the demon is coming for his brother's soul, and Sam will do anything, anything to save Dean. An ending that will leave you crying and laughing and aching for them. I love how Sam eventually saves Dean. It is stunning, totally unexpected and it takes my breath away to see what Sam would and could do to not let the demon take his brother. Someone really should point out this story to whatstheirname, Sarah and Rachael, because IMO this is one genuiniely brilliant way for Sam to save Dean.

Sam imagines Dean scrawling this list down in a diner somewhere, sitting alone at the table while Sam was outside or in the bathroom or something, just a quick pit stop between a dozen or so exorcisms and crappy food and the physical ache of car seats. He suddenly feels sick, goes into a bathroom stall and leans over the stained toilet there, his mouth hanging open and his eyes watering. Instead of puking, though, he starts choking up, suppressed sobs jerking his diaphragm but never quite making it past his chest.
He's going to fix this. He has to. He sets aside the urge to flush the List down the toilet and instead puts it carefully back inside Dean's duffel, yanks the shirt back on in a flurry of torn hems, and goes back to the car.

Thank you very much, Layne. :D

And if you have any J2 fics, I'd love to know them.

Btw, do you know our singer Titi DJ? I'm loving this song now: Hanya Cinta Yang Bisa.

Hope you like it!

Am listening to the song now. It's a lovely song.

Jangan lagi kau pergi dari hidupku

That's Dean's constant thoughts :)

Thank you, dear.

And I hope you'll like the fic above as much as I do!

Thank you for liking the song. :D

And I've read the fic and cried. No, no. I didn't cry. I wept. :''( Actually it's the idea of Dean dying that's really troubling me. *sobssobs*

Standing astride a wave, gasping Sam's name, laughing, driving the Impala, singing off key, fighting like a caged animal. The smell of him, the loose gait of his legs, all the secretive delight and mischief and insecurity and deep, deep love.</I. mama. T__T

Some of the parts that I like - earlier on when Sam took Dean's duffel by mistake and he found that list ( *cries* ), then when he went out and found Dean "swimming in his clothes" and he realized that Dean is small compared to him ( *melts* ), when Dean destroyed Sam's laptop and Sam stayed out the whole night and Dean didn't sleep ( that hurts ) and omg that Mardi Gras caper, that's the one that I cringed at, ewww, Dean!

Btw, did you really get what Sam actually did to save Dean? I didn't actually but the writer explained it to me. I'm just wondering whether I'm the only one who didn't understand that part. Heh.

I did find the Mardi Gras part a bit, err, disturbing. Dean is much more dignified than that. But perhaps you change if you know you'd soon die.

I read a fic that tells a story about Sam being a son of Lilith, but I have to admit I don't really understand the end of this story here. Does it have something to do with the book of life? I did read the writer's explanation for you but I don't understand it either because I haven't read the fic at that time. LOL. Anyway, this fic is just too sad, but like I said, for me, mostly because I can't, don't want to, imagine Dean die. I don't know how the writers are going to solve the problems, but I myself can't think of anything else. The demon certainly doesn't want to help if Sam goes to her. (But then last night I thought of an idea for a crack fic for this, but no. This is too sad a story to be laughed at.)

:)

That Sandman (?) is a crossover from a comic or something (?) but from what I understand that thing in the cowl holds the fate of the world in its hands and it's written in the book and Sam wanted it to tear out the page where Dean got taken by the demon, otherwise Sam will destroy the world with his powers.

Btw, omg, Dean in ponytails!!! *loves*

Can I ask where you found this? I'm having trouble finding longer, good fics that have decent characterisation, don't treat them like girls and have something you can get your teeth into and make you think. You seem to come up with some great recs and I'd love to know where you find them.

I think I'm looking in the wrong places.

[livejournal.com profile] crack_impala and [livejournal.com profile] spnnewsletter.

The former is ran by a group of dedicated readers who came up daily with the best in fics, fanarts, vids etc etc.

The latter is a round-up of ALL fics written for that particular day. If you're diligent enough, you may find absolute gems here that the girls at [livejournal.com profile] crack_impala may have missed. Diligent meaning you don't do anything but read, like moi *g* And usually you can tell that the fic's going to be good just from the first para.

Like the one above, I just knew that it's going to be good the moment Sam found that list and he and Dean wore each other's clothes :)

Thanks for that.

I knew about the newsletter but hadn't heard of the crack_impala (I know crack van.) I've been and had a look and I love their layout, it's so easy to find what you want. Now all I have to do is warm up the printer to get ready for my holidays. Can you imagine, 2 weeks with no internet? No slash? Just 'normal' books?

I love to read a proper book but you have to have something to fall back on when you get desperate!

Enjoy your holidays, love. You're going to be with the OTP?

Oh wow, thanks for that honey bun.

You're going to be with the OTP?

No.

:-(

Chance would be a fine thing. Going with the family, there will be many, many kids, no internet, no time alone and it's 38 degrees. I might just melt.
