Some random thoughts on SPN S315. I love it as a whole, but for some nit-pickings here and there.

1. So. Immortality. That desperate, eh, Sam? At this point of time, I thought I'm ready for anything, as long as you save Dean, but I agree with Dean. Slicey McHackey? And killing for body parts? I remember reading this fanfic on immortality a little while back, Seldom a Straight Line by [livejournal.com profile] black_regalia - Kripke does read fanfics omg. Now that I could take, Sam and Dean with eternal youth, no body parts to replace, well, except for the Impala, which they finally had to put to rest, much to Dean's grief. But not *that*, Sam, not that. You broke my heart there :(

2. That young jogger. Oh my, he was HOT. And he looked a lot like Sam. I even thought he was Sam at first and I was like, Sam still has the time to jog?. Same broad shoulders, similar eyes and hair. And he was tall too. And that creepy doctor? I thought he was Kim Manners! I thought the doctor at the morgue looked familiar, too, but I didn't realize that he was the same actor who played Daniel Elkins until someone pointed it out.

3. The nurse at the ER. Okay, that irked me. A LOT. Even the most sedate of nurses would have at least brought a wheelchair to a man stumbling in while clutching at an obviously bleeding abdomen. The usual scenario would be nurses and MAs and probably panicky young housemen as well, rushing to him with a stretcher and the IVs and as [livejournal.com profile] surgicalsteel pointed out, security would have been called in as well because you may never know, the attacker might still be lurking somewhere nearby. Heh, the nurses here would probably would have pressed the code blue button and called every trauma surgeon on-call. And no gloves! The nurse touched that man without wearing any gloves! Suicidal much?

4. Sid and Nancy. I didn't know who they were at first ( thanks Monty and Pheebs ) but yeah, Dean thinking that they'd be co-dependent and destructive in the long-term was pretty interesting. More so because Dean was the one who didn't want to let Sam go. Granted that was before the deal, but still, I wouldn't have thought that "destructive" would be on Dean's mind when thinking of life forever with Sam. Co-dependent, maybe, but destructive? Hmmm ...

Henricksen called them Bonnie and Clyde. I wonder whether the demons would start calling them Samson and Delilah next.

5. And lastly, Bela. O-kaaay, I guess I'm very much in the minority here, but I don't really hate Bela. I still haven't seen 'Red Sky' and I downloaded 'Bad Day' much much later. My first encounter with Bela was in 'Fresh Blood' followed by 'Dream', so I didn't really get to see her all that much. I didn't find her annoying in 'Bad Day'. I thought it funny the way she managed to trick the boys. It wasn't until 'Time is on my side' that I realized that I actually ... like Bela, and not just because of her backstory. I'm sorry to see her go. And you know, I'm so happy to learn that Lauren Cohan is actually a sweetheart, and I love hearing about her and Katie Cassidy at Asylum.

I might change my mind after watching 'Red Sky' though. I heard that she was a real b@#$%& in that episode.

The Finale tomorrow. Or the day after for me. It has a lot to live up to. 'Devil's Trap' and 'AHBL' are beyond awesome, and if the rumours are anything to go by ( Jensen crying off-screen OMG ) it *would* be one hell of a ride indeed. And I am completely spoiler-free, I have no idea what's going to happen yay!!

And oh, do go read [livejournal.com profile] teand's Fade to Black. It's what she thought would happen in the finale and I love it. Non-spoilery, it's all speculation!

That's not Elkins. It's played by Billy Drago, the one who has lots of roles in B movies.

Hmm. Dean called themselves Mulder and Scully. :D

After my recent experience with Fauntling and the gagging nurse, I totally agree with what you said in #3. Totally unrealistic. Oh well, no one's perfect.

I'm like you too in that I never hated Bela. I thought Lauren was a better actress than Katie, who is wooden and comes across as snotty 13 year old girl to me all the time. At least Bela is clever. And she's supposed to be a total bitch, and she's good at it. "Red Sky" to me was funny. Yeah, she made fun of Dean and Sam a bit, esp Dean, but that's why she's a bitch because we know it's not true what she says.

"Destructive"--yeah definitely. Dean made his terrible Deal to save Sam, Sam is showing that he's willing to go to terrible lengths to save Dean--all of it just destroying themselves in one way or another. But I think when Dean said that line he was referring more to Sid and Nancy doing so many drugs together since Sam had said whatever the formula is, he'd take it too.

Great review!

It wasn't? Hmmm, that person who said that seemed very sure that that doctor ( not Frankestein but the morgue doctor that the boys interviewed ) was Elkins!

Oh yes, Mulder and Scully, I forgot about them. Hee hee, the truth is out there ...

*twirls you*

Sid Vicious was the lead singer of Sex Pistols and his romance with Nancy was in front pages in UK back in the 70's.
They killed themselves together

Kripke said that he liked Bela and I think I understand why. But for her to work, you have to have a ... hmmm, what should I say, a sense of humour? That Sam and Dean could be played out despite being seasoned hunters. I was thinking Ellen and Jo at the Roadhouse when they first met Sam and Dean in ELAC, how they had the upper hand and seriously, how could *that* happen?

Ruby kind of grew on me, too!

Hee, I thought it awesome that Dean had to mention a pair of lovers as a reference :DDD

No, no! I meant is Sam supposed to be "Sid" or "Nancy". My take is Sam as Sid, and Dean as Nancy :DD

You might well change your mind after "Red Sky." I loathe that episode, largely because of Bela. Humor is such a very subjective thing, what makes one person laugh their ass off leaves someone else completely cold. I haven't liked the way Bela was always seeming to get one over on the guys, and we're supposed to somehow like her for that?

I think her character is a good example of misconception, where something that might look good on paper doesn't necessarily work on the screen. I agree Lauren's a good actress, but it was easier for me to "love to hate" Henricksen and Gordon, because at least you could see why they thought they were in the right, and Sam and Dean were wrong. With Bela, we're just supposed to accept she's this master thief, who doesn't give a damn what the consequences of her theft are, with no indication of motive beyond greed. That lack of motivation, which was probably supposed to create an air of mystery, instead made her come across as being decidedly in the wrong. Like the writers were saying, "Here, like this character because we do! Maybe we'll tell you why you should later, maybe not, but we think she's cool." It either worked for people or it didn't. Maybe if they'd gone less for the mystery background, and given us more idea why she thought she had a right to do what she did, it would have given people more of a chance to like her.

In fact, it might have been interesting if the audience had known about her deal very early on, and Sam and Dean didn't know till the end. Think what a very different take we'd have had on the character.

I still think they push Bela, and Ruby, too, into the show because they want to have women in it. :( I hate the women because of this. Nothing personal.

Yes, I really want to watch 'Red Sky' now! I haven't seen 'The kids are alright' either but I'm kind of thinking that that would be more painful than 'Red'.

I actually like Henricksen and Gordon :)

I recommend "The Kids Are Alright" because it seems like everyone liked it, and enjoyed seeing a different side of Dean.

I liked Henricksen and Gordon, too, in that they believed so strongly that they were doing the right thing. By their own standards, they were. It's just that we, as viewers, knew how wrong they were about the Winchesters! If we hadn't had a chance to find out these outside points of view and their goals and beliefs, I think it would have been harder to have any sympathy for their behavior.

Sort expected Sam to get more and more desperate as time went on but, yeah, it was a little disturbing that he was even considering the eternal life thing. And he said he'd take the magic pill too? Yeah, so they could live together forever and ever... *sigh*

Sid and Nancy... indeed.

I'm unspoiled for the finale too. Which is just the way I like it! I mean, I'm not a spoilerphobe like some but it certainly is more fun this way... :)

ACK!!!! No no no! Sid was the base player of the Sex Pistols and he was piss-poor at it, too. They took him on because he looked the part. Sadly he was a total junkie even then and couldn't keep it together at all. Johnny Rotten did all the singing - well, yelling. Johnny (real name Lydon) is still alive and doing quite well.

They didn't kill themselves together. I think Nancy was stabbed to death in the Chelsea Hotel, Sid was arrested but not charged, and he died of a heroin overdose shortly thereafter.

In the movie the best line was was that Sid was "a fabulous disaster waiting to happen."

I'm almost 100% certain that the WRITERS didn't know about Bela's deal until they had to axe her character, so there's no way they could have let the audience know. If they'd known, I like to think they would have written the character with a little bit more shading, not just have her pouting to Dean that "you don't know me at all." Everything about her was a mess from start to finish. One of the lamest, most poorly developed character I've ever seen outside of the depths of fanfiction.net. I hope to God they don't bring her back as a spirit, demon, talking Ouija board, reincarnated newt or anything else.

Well, maybe the newt would be okay.

Sid & Nancy? Hmm...yes. Angst-ridden, doomed couple imploding in some awful hotel room? I can see that.

Though I thought the Abbot & Costello reference in "Malleus Malificarum" was dreadfully apt, for that episode in particular...

But why do you think Dean mentioned them in the first place?

Edit : Because of Sid's disaster line?

Heh! I agree with you, as long as it's not a talking newt. If they were going to have any sort of spiritual advisors, I can think of better ones. Let's see -- Mom and Dad are both beyond communication, I think. In no particular order: Paster Jim, Sarge, Andy, maybe Ash -- you know, people who liked them? Even Ronald!

Sadly, you're probably right that the writers didn't think of Bela's Deal till they had to come up with some cool way to get rid of her. I agree, she was one of the worst conceived characters ever. In fact, doesn't she come across a bit like a Mary Sue? Which is, I'm sure, what you mean about ff.net. Let's see, she's beautiful, incredibly wealthy, independent, sarcastic in a way that's supposed to seem clever, she's smart enough to continually best our two excellent hunters, can argue with very dangerous men and still win -- oh, and Sam even had an erotic dream about her! Good God, she is a Mary Sue! I think a lot of us prefer our characters to have some flaws that make them endearingly human, whereas Mary Sues are too perfect to be human.

I shudder to think what Sam would be like without Dean. I bet he would have sacrificed Nancy without batting an eyelid if Dean wasn't there. That faith healer, IMO he would have gone on with it even if he knew that someone else's life had to be sacrificed.

Because I'm thinking that Dean *would* probably go to hell and Sam *would* do whatever it takes to get back Dean, and now that there's no Dean to ground him ...
