I'd Drive All Night by roque_classic is an interesting read. It's pre-series AU, and instead Of Dean going to Sam for help in finding John, Sam's the one who goes to Dean. Though not specifically to find John. Sam wants to bring Dean back to live with him and Jess at Palo Alto. Because Dean's hurt. He's crippled after the last hunt with John, the one where John went missing.

And before you think this is another angsty hurt!Dean fic - you can stop rolling your eyes now Arabia - this Dean is as snarky as ever, rivalling House himself with his limp and his cane and his Vicodin popping and his sheer stubborness in not wanting to accept any help, especially from Sam. And Sam is just as determined in wanting to bring back Dean with him to Stanford, to Jess who's just as antsy in meeting the brother that she has never met.

The story begins with Bobby's POV - beautiful Bobby's voice there - when he receives a call from Dean who has been languishing at the hospital for months before he finally calls Bobby. The story then alternates between Sam's and Dean's POV.

Dean-goes-to-Stanford-with-Sam, with or without John's blessing, has always been one of my favourite pre-series AU. bellatemple's But Deadly Verse is another such AU where Dean lives with Sam at Stanford. Dean remains mute after the fire, John dies and the boys grew up with adopted parents. God, I just love Jess's reaction when she meets Dean for the first time and her thoughts on Sam's and Dean's interaction with each other.

Oh, I do AU. :)) I love all those FBI verse stories, I've told you about it once. Including "Revelations" from this year's Bigbang.

And I really like this one, not FBI verse though: Quia Lux Non Est from kroki_refur.
Summary from the writer: Bobby Singer's life is pretty straightforward until Dean Winchester shows up on his doorstep.

It's a great story.

I love all of kroki_refur's stories, AU or not. She's a great writer. I had just been reading her Quantum Leap series, and before that the one where Sam and Dean are caught by a man-eating monster and put inside cages, along with another victim, ala The Benders.

Hey, you should know by now that some of the awesomest stories are gens!! Anyway, Jess died fairly early in the second story.

And in the first story, Jess is just mentioned in passing, she's not the main focus at all. So far anyway. It's WIP though, but each chapter is long, and satisfying :)

Each part in the second fic is a stand-alone, so it's not really a WIP. And it's mute!Dean, baby, the angst factor is high!!
