Eight more days!

God, but my brain is just about fried today, with all the J2 yummy deliciousness. And I now have this burning desire to go read SE Hinton's 'The Outsiders'. I've seen the movie, a long time ago, but I haven't read the book yet. Who would have thought that she's a fangirl? And who knows, maybe a J2 shipper, too? Did they start living together ( oh my, that sounds so sinful ) after her visit or before? Is there a connection I wonder?
Anyway, the countdown.
My choice for the number 8 position is a scene that to me is very slashy. Not grab-my-brother's-face slashy of 'Plaything', or slap-my-brother's-ass-and-call-him-honey slashy of 'Bugs'.
This is the more subtle slashiness of Sam staring down at his brother's sleeping form in 'Phantom Traveler'. I didn't really get the Wincesty vibes between the two brothers before that, despite the fics that I've been reading. Dean was just the annoying older brother in the first three episodes, and their banters were nothing but brotherly to me, even in 'Bugs'. But this particular scene in 'Phantom Traveller', well, it's different.
The scene started with this slow-pan of the camera along Dean's body, and wow, I remember my mouth going dry looking at that bod. And Dean wearing that boxers and that tight black shirt. Seriously, it was almost pornographic!

Then there's the sound of the door opening, and it creaks mind you, and we see the shadow of someone looming over Dean, staring at him, and what with the creepy music playing in the background, it didn't cross my mind that that was Sam. Because, hello, he's staring at him just a tad too long! And then Dean opens his eyes and reaching under his pillow. For his knife, as we can see later.

Then the somewhat spooky mood was broken by Sam cheerily saying, "Morning, sunshine." And Dean stretching and arching his back, turning towards Sam, still sprawled wantonly on the bed ( Dean, not Sam ).

I guess you could forgive Sam for kind of leering at his brother here, and really, I had no idea why Sam would do that ( unless that was actually Jared, standing there hypnotized ), and the director not yelling "cut" or something.

Sam handing Dean his coffee.

Dean's worried about Sam not getting any sleep, and he snarks about needing Sam to watch his back.

And here's when they were talking about Sam's nightmares and Dean keeping a knife under his pillow. "That's not fear, that's precaution," Dean says.

I love this scene because oh okay, I'll be honest and tell it as it is. Dean sprawling on the bed. In nothing but a pair of boxers and a tight black T-shirt! But seriously, this is when we first find out that
There's really nothing extra about this scene, it's not particularly angsty or funny or happy in any way. If anything, it's kind of bleak, but I like this. So yeah, this is my number eight for today's countdown.
Number 9 : Number 7

Date: 2008-09-10 02:11 pm (UTC)I'm trying to get into Sam's head here and I can't think of a single thing why he would look at Dean like that, unless it was to appreciate Dean's beauty. In which case that had to be Jared, not Sam. Unless Wincest is canon :D

Date: 2008-09-10 01:38 pm (UTC)You know Layne, when Shinta was not into Supernatural yet, she always caught us -- me and my bro -- watching this episode. Almost all the time. And she always said: "Why you two always watched this episode?"
We just grinned. Hey, it's a very fun and cool episode.
A few months later, when AXN showed Supernatural, she knew why. *grins*

Date: 2008-09-10 02:17 pm (UTC)I love 'Phantom Traveler'! I love the part when Dean's in the plane, humming Metalicca and Sam seating beside him, looking bemused. Dean trying to get out of flying when they were at the airport was so adorable, and Sam looked so disbelieving when Dean told him he was scared of flying.

See, that is what I particularly like about this scene. It really does show us the harsh realities of their lives, in a simple, matter-of-fact way.
And the slow pan of the camera across Jensen's assets is kinda nice too;)no subject

Date: 2008-09-12 12:52 am (UTC)1) Dean really looks like he just woke up, especially in that shot of him sitting slouched on the edge of the bed. He's all bed-headed and puffy-faced and kind of sweaty. It's delish!
2) The empty popcorn box...on Dean's side of the nightstand of course. I can just picture him there obnoxiously munching popcorn in bed while Sam's trying to get to sleep.
If I'd caught this when it first aired I might have turned into an SPN fan a lot sooner than I did.
