Four cuties all in a row.
Sep. 16th, 2008 11:40 amFound these near the toilet at my office the other day.

It was midday, and their mummy was nowhere in sight. They were so quiet, too, none of the mewlings you'd expect from kitties left by their mum. Or are kitties normally like that? I don't have much experience with cats myself. Maybe their mummy just went off for a while, maybe to get food? And maybe they have been well-fed, that's why they were so quiet.
They were still there in the evening when I finished work. They were more restless then, walking around, and two of them came to me, rubbing themselves against my legs. The mother was still not around. I was thinking that I have to find people to adopt them or something if they were still around the next morning, but they were gone by then.
Do cats usually do that, leave their kitties and went off to do whatever?
/is curious to know.

Date: 2008-09-16 05:34 am (UTC)There are feral cat colonies in cities all over the U.S., and often what people do is to catch them, have them neutered, and re-release them into their old territory. That way they can continue to live and to be with the cats they know, but they won't reproduce any longer. Because a lot of feral cats (and dogs) don't have the best lives, scrounging for food and sometimes getting killed by wildlife.
Our local animal shelter will take in feral kittens if their mother is dead or gone, and usually they can become quite domesticated and find good owners. If I could, I would adopt a few dozen orphan kitties, but my current two cats would not approve.

Date: 2008-09-16 07:14 am (UTC)I've heard that the healthiest and most well-fed stray cats in the world live in Rome. My friend Mely who lives there sent me photos of the cats at the coliseum and they even put the domesticated ones in my country to shame!
My sister-in-law is like you. At one time she had almost twenty cats living in her house, now she has only two.

Date: 2008-09-16 07:18 am (UTC)Hee, I guess the mother went hunting that day, leaving the eldest in charge of his three siblings. Eeeps, imagine John and Mary having 4 kids instead of 2! They'd be the death of Dean, having three little Sammys to look after. One is bad enough!
