Quantum of Solace.
Nov. 7th, 2008 01:13 pmStill using my Bourne icon, so you know where this is heading.
One thing that strikes me most about it - Daniel Craig's pants looked really, really tight on him. Like he was poured into them. Which is not necessarily a bad thing, but you know, he's supposed to run and kick and fight in them, and I don't know, it looked kind of painful to me.
It was boring. I didn't quite get what was going on most of the time. The action sequences, they failed to excite me. Oh there were a few gasps here and there, but they mostly left me cold. And the ... posturings ... like he was posing for photoshoots or something, and seriously, he has this one, just ONE expression which he used throughout the movie.
And really, it's NOT about me prefering Bourne to Bond, not at all. I enjoyed 'Casino Royale' and I was really looking forward to watching QoS, but it just didn't work for me. I almost fell asleep a few times, and my eldest did, yes, it was that boring. And I couldn't help comparing how Bourne would have done things, if he were in Bond's place.
The funny thing is, I kind of missed the whole shaken but not stirred thing, the hi-tech gadgets ( get that, there were none in QoS ) and the Aston Martin ( which made a very short appearance at the beginning of the show ). Bond drove a beat-up Range Rover of all things, and the Bond girl drove a VW, which just didn't work in a Bond movie. Well, to me at least *shrugs* I'm seriously thinking that maybe the Bond movies should go back to the old tried-and-tested formula where the hero is smooth and suave and more of a lady-killer than ruthless assasin.
And Shinta, if you so happened to be reading this, forgive me?
The current Bond girl. The same girl in 'Max Payne' which I just saw last week. Does she remind you of anybody in particular? Because she really made me think of this one girl, and I'm just wondering whether it's just me.

And a couple of local reviews here and here. They're basically saying the same thing, though they said it in a much better way than I did.

I just hope they won't make the same mistake with what they had with Timothy Dalton.

Date: 2008-11-07 10:41 am (UTC)I think the reason why I am not so into Bond anymore is because the movies has lost that special "thing" that made a Bond movie a Bond movie. Huh.
These new ones are ordinary non stop action movies. Doesn't have to mean I think they are bad. Just not Bond. You know?
