Everytime I see
emeraldsedai's name come up on my flist, my heart beats just a litlle bit faster, okay, a lot faster, but unfortunately, the next part of Restraint is not up yet though I believe DarkEmeralds is currently working hard on it. In the meantime, I'm simply dying to know what's going to happen next!
So, Tristan said he was going into politics and John seemed to support that. And while I love the idea of Tristan at the House Of Lords (?), I'm also very afraid of what it might mean to their relationship, the complications and the ramifications. And you know, I can't help but feel there's a reason ( or two ) for Miss Lareton and Miss Jennings. I didn't really think that Tristan would marry Miss Lareton before, but with the possibilty of Tristan entering politics, I'm so afraid that the Viscount will marry Miss Lareton, to keep up appearances if nothing else *FRETS*
I wish they'd just run off to Europe or something ...
And also, I've only just realized, on my second read, that Tristan was talking in metaphors when he told John that he ( John ) was his third guest at Ravensworth. That was brilliant. And the parallels drawn from their real lives, the way they were written, are amazing. I noted four - the dogs, John's religious background, the bar brawl with Tristan's broken hand and the err, girls :)
I'm curious. If the author were to take prompts for time-stamps, what would you like her to write? For me, I'd love to read outside POVs on them, Tristan's sister-in-law's thoughts for instance, or maybe Cooper or Marchbanks, or Watson! And I'd love to have manips of them, Tristan and John of course, not Cooper and Marchbanks and Watson, standing side by side wearing their evening best at a ball *dreams*

Date: 2010-04-23 11:19 am (UTC)So, yes - I join you in fretting quite dreadfully.
I hold out the hopes that, should the disapprobation of Society fall upon the pair of them, they will at least have Charlotte and Mr Caine and Lizzie still on their side - I had wondered whether they might fly to the continent, but I don't think Tristan would be happy abroad, really...
...in truth, I haven't the faintest idea how she's going to pull this one off without it becoming a tragedy, but I'm given to hope that it will all turn out on a reasonably positive note.
(And, oh, how much do I want to plant Charles Murray a facer? VERY MUCH INDEED. Although he's a pitiful creature too, in his own way.)

Date: 2010-04-24 04:49 am (UTC)Yes, that mention of Miss Lareton being good with horses made me a lot ill at ease and if art were to imitate life ... I really do hope that the author won't go there but at this point in time I think it's kind of inevitable that there'll be a Countess ( Viscountess? Or just Lady? ) Penrith in the near future and that would make me feel so SAD :((
That Murray angle is another thing. And I wonder how John would feel if he ever find out that Tristan was keeping that from him. I'm envisioning the aforementioned Mr Caine taking things into his own hands, he's a scoundrel, our Mr Caine, albeit an adorable one. Or maybe Marchbacks or Cooper. Or Marchbanks and Cooper.
Argh, I wish that fic site has a tracker or something. I keep that window open all day long, refreshing it every

Date: 2010-04-24 12:14 pm (UTC)Dude, you're mixing up Lizzie and the admirable Charlotte; Lizzie's already stuck in an unsatisfactory marriage with an old geezer who has thus far distinguished himself by SHOOTING HER GAY BFF and then being rude to said BFF's boyfriend. (Pause to hate on Colonel Danforth.)
Ahem. Anyway, yes, sorry - I'm shipping Charlotte/Christopher Caine like nobody's business, but that still leaves plenty of scope for Lizzie to cuckold the useless Danforth with her best girl! (As clearly Lizzie's busy trying to get into everyone's pants anyway, to judge by her endeavours to seduce poor John whilst he was painting her portrait.)
I think that John would (will) be absolutely mortified to discover he had placed Tristan in such an untenable position through his carelessness, and I could see that driving him back to Italy. Or possibly confronting Murray - which would, one feels, be an unwise move, and one which might take a somewhat unsalubrious turn, as I very much doubt Mister Murray is above using this leverage to extort sexual services from the decorative Mr Acklebury.

Oooh, I like that idea. And Tristan would be driven out of his mind with worry and he'd travel post-haste to Italy where he'd meet John's Valetta (?) and more drama would ensue!
Btw, I love your icon. Is it by any chance shareable? Are there more where that came from?

Date: 2010-04-24 02:27 pm (UTC)I can't see Violetta posing any kind of threat to their relationship, to be honest - but I COULD see John being completely appalled at having been the source of such trouble for his friend, and realising that their relationship would pose a grave threat to Tristan's political aspirations, and being determined to remove himself from Tristan's circle come hell or high water.
I have some hopes that Mr Caine might be able to talk some sense into him (if he can cross the particular hurdle of accepting his friend is of the Greek persuasion). I'm also eager to see whether John's interesting Uncle Martin and his particular friend will make an actual appearance in the story, and whether they might be of assistance in any way...

Date: 2010-04-24 11:35 pm (UTC)Oh I've forgottten about Uncle Martin! Yes, I can totally see John confiding in his uncle and that the uncle would gladly get himself involved with the whole Murray business.
