After all the agonizing and angstying and self-imposed drama, it turned out that I like it! I put my expectation way, way down low and I was prepared to be epically unhappy but I love it the minute the Impala rolled into view. That was a superb touch. And the flashbacks to the old episodes ( omg I missed the old Sam so very much), to when they were kids, the legos and the toy soldiers, Chuck ... but why oh why John wasn't there? That was a huge, sore point with me. Along with quite a number of things but overall, I thought it was good! Sad of course, and I'm not a fan of Lisa but OMG CASTIEL IS ALIVE!!!!!! And Bobby, too. I really thought that would be the last we'd see of Castiel but HE'S ALIVE!!!

Jake Abel didn't do Michael justice at all. And have I said that I'm not that fond of Lisa?

Thank goodness for season 6 because if it was the season finale, the show would have ended with Chuck's typing "The End". The end scene, that felt a bit like a scene from [livejournal.com profile] leonidaslion's Bright Lights of Disturbia, when Sam looked in on Dean inside the house.

Oh dear, does that mean that Lisa's going to be in season 6?

A good finale, not in the same class as the previous finales but not bad as I thought it'd be.

Hee, I'm glad you watched. I told you so. It wasn't a great episode, but for a cheesy plot, it sure packed a whole lot punch! And Dean is so beautifully broken. Just when I thought I saw the best performance from Jensen Ackles, he went and pushed the bar higher. I totally agree with you on the ending here kinda reminded me of [livejournal.com profile] leonidaslion's Bright Lights of Disturbia. I swear I think Kripke and Sera have read her stuff and are fans of them!

Lanie, don't worry about Lisa. I guarantee you Sera will kill her off at the first opportunity. :D

I predict that both Lisa and Ben will only be around for a little while. If that's 100% pure Sam out there, IF he lets Dean know he's there, Dean MAY remember to say "Buh-bye" to Lisa and Ben, as the door hits him in the assbutt. :)

Unless Sam decides to be all noble and let Dean live his happy life and NOT TELL him he's still around. In which case I hope he comes to his senses very quickly.

If it's not 100% pure Sam, but demon!Sam or Samifer, then Lisa and Ben will soon become red splats all over her nice clean house.

It could be ghost!Sam, and in that case, what the heck else would he do but haunt Dean, staring longingly at him until Dean sees him...and again, same scenario as above, he'd leave Lisa and Ben in a heartbeat.

But wasn't some of that episode magnificent? And Cas, Bobby, and the Impala all survived, when I was sure at least one of them would bite the dust this episode.

Best of all, we know there's another season, so we only have to wait 4-5 months now to find out what sort of Sam we have on our hands, and how Dean is faring playing house with Lisa and Ben. I don't actually have a problem with Lisa, and she's the only one of Dean's former playmates who has a kid, that we know of, so it's the only way Dean's going to get instant!family. But I can't see her being in his life for very much longer, not with mysterious!Sam looming around.

That's what I call a splendid execution of an episode! It makes me wonder how they could produce something like the previous 2 episodes which did absolutely NOTHING to me and then they gave us this which gave me everything, well, almost everything, because I do have some serious issues with it, but oh, those sweet, sweet moments made up for that.

That's the second time show reminded me of Leonidaslion's stories. The first time was during 'The End', when Dean met Sammifer in that garden, that made me think of the Suite verse!

Btw, I think you mentioned something about a yellow crayon moment from that Buffy show in your previous post. I didn't watch Buffy so I'm wondering whether that toy soldier thing qualify as the Buffy equivalent of the yellow crayon?

There's no rumours of that actress being a recurring character in the next season, is there? Not that I want to deprive Dean of his home and apple-pie life but, well, that's just not my thing!

That last scene hurt me the most :(((

Yes, that is the number one question right now. What is Sam and how did he get out? I don't think he's a ghost. I think he's human with the demon still inside him, not any particular demon, but "demon" in the general sense, that maybe he's like what the YED told Dean before, that he's no longer 100% Sam.

Cas and Bobby being alive just like that is actually one of my issues with the episode, it was so easy! But having said that, it's also the most squeeful moments for me. Ha, thank goodness Adam wasn't brought to life as well.

Aargh, that Lisa thing is going to be like the agony of waiting for season 3. Back then I dreaded the thought of Ruby and Bela, the two new regulars, and now it's Lisa.

I'll tell you why this totally cliched plot worked for me -- the super acting of one Jensen Ackles, not just here but throughout the series, he made me emotionally resonant with Dean.

I didn't watch BtVS, but I've read people's description of the "Yellow Crayon Moment" (here), and yes, the toy soldier is Kripke's yellow crayon. The Impala and Dean are his Xander.

I tell you, I'm convinced Kripke and/or Sera has read leonidaslion's stories. ;-)

Oh and I forgot to say earlier that I don't think John is necessary or even should be in the flashbacks. Because think about it, it's always been Sam and Dean. The only true love of Sam is Dean, there's no question about it. I totally think that when wee!Sam and wee!Dean carved "S.W." and "D.W." on the car, after the camera panned away, Sammy drew a heart around the letters! ;-)

Also tell me if the two of them sitting on the hood of Impala in the middle of night watching brilliant stars twinkling in the dark sky isn't the most romantic scene to date on the show. ♥

My first inclination is it's ghost!Sam because the street light went out. But he could also be corporeal. He might be a demon but I think that's unlikely, and I think there's no chance he's Lucifer because the writers promised conclusion to that.

By the way, if you haven't read it yet, I highly recommend you fleshflutter's coda to the episode Don't Look Back (It's a Funeral).

Oooooh yes, Jensen was absolutely MARVELLOUS there. He didn't have to do much, but his eyes spoke volumes, God, he stole the scene just by standing there. It's all in the nuances, yeah?

I wish Cas didn't repair Dean's face magically. He looked so beautifully tragic with his face all messed up. I'd rather have some h/c the old fashion way!

Aren't you disppointed with Jake Abel? He reduced Michael to almost nothing, and compared to how Matt Cohen played Michael, he was seriously lacking. One thing that I was really looking forward to ALL season, Jensen playing Michael and we didn't get that :(

I hope Sera's been reading all the wonderful fics out there!!

Can't wait for SamandDean-under-the-stars icon!

I so agree with you on Cas repairing Dean's face. That actually made me snicker. But seeing as there was no one there to do the comfort, and I totally don't want Lisa and Ben heal a broken Dean, I'm okay he was restored physically back to normal. But the scene when he showed up on Lisa's doorstep, he was so broken inside, and that nobody else can fix but Sam.

Michael is such a wasted character. Jake Abel was terrible as Michael. In that scene, if I'm honest with myself, Jared was pretty terrible as Lucifer too. I don't know if I should blame the way the scene is written. It would've been much better if they didn't talk and just went on fighting the minute they saw each other with some cool special effect.

Yes, I just read that, and I think that would be a fantastic season 6 opener. SERA READ THAT!!!

Maybe Sam now has his own angel, one who dragged him out of hell the way Castiel did Dean? Heck, maybe it was Castiel again?

I don't mind Lisa, they don't seem to have much chemistry but I don't mind her as a whole. I thought Jake did a good job with what little bit of time he had to work with.

I cried when Dean told him he was there with him. Of course I didn't stop until after the flashbacks were done. I was so shocked with Cas and Bobby I was just sitting there with my mouth hanging open.

I haven't heard anything, not that I'm usually high on the list of people "in the know".

But this Dean settled with a home and family thing is not what SPN is about and I'm pretty sure I'm safe in saying that Ms. Gamble doesn't want her office stormed by a legion of enraged fans bent on having her head on a spike. :) Personally, I have a feeling the status quo will be brought back as quickly as possible one way or another and knowing Sera she will do it in a way that causes Dean the most pain possible. :(

I like Lisa more than I liked Ruby or Bela. Most of the women we've seen Dean with just didn't seem very interesting, and it's not so much that Lisa as herself has that much to offer, but as Ben's mom, that's a different thing. I still think Ben is actually Dean's son, and Lisa just doesn't want him to feel obligated to stay because of that.

If Sam is some sort of demon now...I just don't see that playing out. I got the impression from what Kripke and Gamble have said about next season, that we're going back to more the feel of Season 1, with smaller, more intimate stories. And I don't see that happening if Sam is some sort of supernatural creature. It's possible there was someone else there, Cas or an angel, that we didn't see, and it's meant to fake us out.

I dunno, but I have a feeling we'll get lots of different stories and theories over the summer!

I just hope she didn't die for Dean to get back to Sam. So many deaths on their, his, hands, and as much I don't like the domestic bend ( unless it's Sam'nDean ), I don't want Lisa's demise to be added to the looooong line of poeple who died for them.

No, not her, but Castiel! When Cas came to broken!Dean, I thought we were going to see him tending to Dean's injuires so I was kind of disappointed with that magic touch there.

To me, the most bittersweet moments are the ones with the Impala - the flashbacks to when they were young, and them giving us scenes from the earlier seasons, a trip down memory lane to when the darkest things in their lives were killing a wendigo or a hookman, or dealing with bugs, that was when I felt like crying my heart out.

My "Nooooooooo" was pretty loud when Cas and Bobby died, and even though I was happy that they came back, the way they were brought back didn't quite sit well with me, it was so easy!

But Cas was restored to his angel status by then. Angels don't heal people by TLC, they heal by a simple touch. ;-)

I know.

*sighs*

You just can't have your cake and it, too, ya? I still can't help wishing though. I don't ship Dean/Cas sexually but I am a Cas!girl and oh, to have that scene would send thousands of Cas/Dean girls, Cas!girls and Dean!girls into a frenzy!

Maybe it won't happen. Maybe Dean will just realize he's just not cut out for that kind of life and they will break up; but I was just thinking about how much the writers like to torture Dean in particular and I wonder if that is going to change, especially with Sera in charge.

I'm trying to make myself feel better about the whole Lisa thing, and it got me thinking as to why Dean kept ( or tried to ) his promise to Sam. He had brought Sam back before, because he couldn't live without him, but what had it brought them but more heartache and tragedy? I know quite a number of people thought ( not Dean!girls ) that Dean was selfish in bringing back Sam, and maybe that's what Dean thought too now. So, IDK, maybe he thinks it's the right thing to do now.

I know, right? I was like, sitting there, slouching really, feeling dejected and all, thinking that I was going to hate it, or maybe bored by it, then they showed us the Impala and I SAT UP, and I just knew then that it was going to be good. And yes the flashbacks omg, I thought that was BRILLIANT!! Still wish that JDM!John was there though :/

I have to say that the storyline was kind of fodder to me. The important thing was the epic LOVE between the boys! If anything, we come away knowing that they did have a home and love and companionship, things we read fanfic to find. And after being neglected for so many weeks. the Impala did prove to be the 3rd most important character in their (love) story.

I probably wouldn't have liked it half as much if I had high expectations of it but as it is, yeah, it turned out way better than I thought it'd be. Ahaha, maybe that's the secret of enjoying show, don't expect too much and you'll get more out of it!

Oh Muni, Jensen was AWESOME, wasn't he? There were times in the past few episodes when I thought Jensen wasn't up to par, and that the guest stars outshone him, but last night, oh last night, I thought he was even better than Pellegrino!

Well, he had the 100th ep... I mean, he can't outshine everybody ALL the time, right? LOL

Yes, I did think he was amazing! Jensen has the most expressive eyes I've ever seen (okay, maybe him and Jake Gyllenhaal). And I can't figure out how he can look so pretty when he cries. Did you see when Jared got teary? His nose got red, but when Jensen's eyes filled with tears, he was simply beautiful!

Hee, sorry! Can't help :DDDDDDD

Actually, Cas bringing back Bobby to life is one my major issues with the episode. I LOVE getting Bobby back of course, but Castiel having the power to bring people back to life, that's just so unbelievable to me. Unless Bobby is not dead yet in the first place of course.
