Will be doing some de-friending soon. Nothing major, maybe one or two here and there, people that I've not connected with for like, forever.

Do you immediately remove friends who've deleted their journals? I look at my profile page and I have dozens on my friends list with those strike-throughs across their names and I'm loathe to remove them simply because they're mostly very dear friends. People like Absolutefiction and Talesinbloom and Not_refined and Mochness, among others.

Abfic's one of my earliest friends here and I remember with great fondness the mile-long discussion threads that we had when discussing Vsh's Borderline. That was fun. I love squeeing about fanfics, more than I love squeeing about OTPs even *is nostalgic*

Tales, well I think it's highly unlikely that she's coming back but I can't bring myself to remove her, I have such fond memories of reading her stories and she was always so nice to everyone. And Rose, one of the sweetest girls on LJ and I'm still hoping that she'll be back as I'm dying to know what happens to Dean in her Mellon Strolling verse.

And Faeribambi and Toni and Aranel80, I'm not going to remove you guys either even if you never make it back to LJ-land.

Speaking of aranel80, she and I had this Orlijah prison!fic going on between us a long, long time ago before SPN started eating my brain. It's just there sitting on my hard drive and IDK, is anyone interested in reading it? It's schmoopy prison!fic ;)

Yeah, I remove deleted journals. Of course, if I think they might be back I wait but if I know for sure I rather have a "neat" list. But I do feel sad/nostalgic removing them.

I have thought about removing more journals that haven't been updated for ages now, Aranel among them, but I never seem to be able to do it. Well, I think I have removed some but... yeah, lots of history there I loath to erase. :/

I know what you mean by a "neat" list. Mine looks so messy! But there's lots of memories behind those names and yes, some of them are on FB but it's not quite the same.

I remove deleted journals if they've been like that for quite a long time and I really feel like I probably won't see them again. The crossed out journal makes me sad! Then, if they come back and I see that they're active once again (commenting in other people's journals, etc.), I'll often add them back!

But I have two people on my flist who have passed away, and I'll always keep them, even though they're obviously not coming back...

I have one person on my flist who had recently passed away. I didn't know her all that well actually and I hardly talked to her, but just thinking about removing her name made feel like I'm being insensitive or something.

It's always shocking to hear of an LJ-friend who died and even more so when you know them well.

After a certain period of time (I can't remember how long), LJ purges a journal that's been deleted. When I see the message "This journal has been deleted and purged"... *that's* when I remove it.

Friends I loved who deleted their journals, I just leave 'em there.

Very recently I unlocked fic that was locked. In the past I locked it out of fear of, well, minors reading it, I suppose. Not that we can control who gets an LJ account and puts down an incorrect age. So I decided f-locking the fic was ridic and instead I used those warning levels - "adult content" etc.

Part of me wants to just rip through my friends list and clean it out of everyone except the ones whom I know, through comments or squeeing together or whatever. But I don't want to insult anyone. After all, in a way they were forced to friend me to read the fic. Ack! Hard to know what to do.

It hurts to find out that you've been defriended no matter how little contact you have with them so I try not to do the defriending first unless I really, really have to!

It always gives me almost heart-attacks when people delete their journal and it looks like you've been defriended. Or when they change their LJ names, it looks like you've been defriended, too!

I remove deleted journals from my flist... mostly because I hardly ever look so I don't know how long they've been gone. *lol* There was one time I defriended a name that had a strike-through but she apparently changed her mind and PM'd to ask me why I did it. She was just mad at the world that day or something, but then she was so angry I cut her, she refused to add me back. *shrugs* I don't always understand people. :)

I always have this fear that if I deleted my LJ I'd never get it back. Btw, I've always wondered at people who say that they've accidentally deleted their journals. Is it possible to do that? Accidental deletion of a post, yes, I've done that myself but a whole journal?

I don't think i could delete deleted flist journals but comms would be different. Actually how do you delete a deleted comm, having looked at mine I don't see how you do it?

I've been staring at that page the whole of this morning and I still haven't done any changes yet. Though I'm thinking those LJ-ers whom I'm planning to remove probably won't even recognize my name and here I am angstying that I'm going to hurt their feelings lol.

I usually do remove deleted journals when I notice them, but I waited a long time with absolutefiction both because she came back and undeleted a couple times and because like you I had such good memories of being friends with her. But like Shirebound says, LJ deletes the accounts eventually so if people were going to come back they'd need to do it with a new journal anyway.

Yes, I think Absolutefiction's LJ has been purged and as far as I know she hasn't come back yet. She's on my FB friend list though but I very rarely go there.

I usually remove deleted LJs because it's so depressing to see a friend's name with a strike-through. I have kept only one LJ like that on my flist - that's Starlightsongs and that is for the sentimental reason that I got my LJ name from a fic of hers.

Do you know absoluteficiton? I was so happy to see her name without the strikethrough recently but it turned out that is another person altogether. Her LJ has been purged and that name is now being used by someone else. Argh, now I really *have* to remove that LJ from my flist!
