Just came back from the cinema. Saw the movie 'Pathfinder'. With Karl Urban. ( Karl Urban was in the movie. I saw the movie with the husband. That needs to be clarified ) It was okay. Lots and lots of blood and gore. I don't think I would have watched it if not for Karl Urban. And him playing a Viking, too. Brought back memories of Eomer, Man of Rohan. But this Eomer showed a lot more skin than the Middle-Earth one. A lot more. As in him being almost three-quarter naked *drools*

See what I mean?

As I said, the movie was okay. At times it reminded me of 'Rambo'. At times, err, 'Home Alone'. That quite a lot of the scenes reminded me of LOTR goes without saying. The Vikings and their horses looked like the Nazguls. Sometimes they looked like orcs. All those snow made me think of Caradhras. Complete with the avalanche. And of course, there was Eomer himself.

Went to the bookstore after that. I wanted to buy 'The Oxford Murders'. They don't have it, unfortunately. Oh well, maybe I should wait and see if they'll publish it with Elijah on the cover. But I must must must read it before the movie comes out.

I bought PD James's 'The Children of Men' instead. Clive Owen is starring in that movie with Alfonso Cuaron directing. Should be good. Don't know whether it'll ever make it here, though.

I also bought Ben Elton's 'Chart Throb' - The Ultimate pop quest. Ninety-five thousand hopefuls. Three judges. Just one winner. A comic satire with a hilarious deconstruction of the world of television shows.

Very appropriate, since 'American Idol' is starting next week. I can't wait!

I take it that was meant for Eomer in that loin-cloth *g*

I should say so.

(I've gone very British all of a sudden - bring out the croquet hoops and cucumber sandwiches!)

Rambo meets Home Alone. Oy! When selling high-concept ideas (the opposite of what it sounds), Hollywood people like to say things like "This movie will be Lord of the Rings meets Bambi!" Or "This movie is going to be Rosemary's Baby crossed with Dreamgirls!"

Roflmao

Oh God that was funny. But watch it and you'll know what I meant. Not that I'm recommending you to watch it of course, but some parts were so utterly unbelievably unbelievable!

But Karl Urban was actually quite good. I'd probably buy the dvd when it comes out just so I can ogle at those cheeks.

My goodness. One picture like that is worth a lot of blood and gore, I guess. Wonder if my wussy, timid, non-angsty self could handle that film...

Turn around, Karl!
And the one with the horns, who is that supposed to be? *g* Just don't say it's a viking!

Ohhh, I am so going to buy and read The Oxford Murders and hopefully with Elijah on the cover. Maybe I should buy it for you!! :D

You could watch it with one eye closed. Except for when Ghost ( that's the name of Karl's character ) came on screen ;)

I've looked it up online. So far there's no Elijah on the cover yet. I'd be going nuts if they were to put John Hurt on the cover instead of Elijah :P

Yup, that's a Viking alright. I don't know much about Viking history. I do know Hagar the Horrible, though.

Err, are you a Viking?

Naaaw, they wouldn't dare put John Hurt on the cover, would they?!

Yeah, I'm a viking. :))) And there isn't one viking in the history wearing a helm with horns on. Well, except from Hagar. I can't believe they still make movies with vikings like that?! They did in the 1940s. Argh! Naw, no worries... I'm NOT going to rant about it in you journal. LOL But, I feel it's my obligation as an archeologist ;D

They wouldn't if they have any business sense :DD

Heheh looking forward to that rant babe *kisses to my Viking lady*

I guess you didn't see him in The Bourne Supremacy either? He was really cool as the Russian assasin. Not as cool as Matt Damon of course but still cool :)

The movie isn't out in the US yet. I think I might wait to see it on DVD anyway, so I can ff past the really gory parts and slo-mo on the nekkid Karl parts.

We"re gonna see LotR in every danged fantasy/historical movie we watch. We're dooomed. :)

I'm hoping they re-issue the book with Elijah on the cover too. In the meantime, thank god for public libraries!

OMG your description rocks! LMAO!!!
What will little Kevin do when he's an adult Kevin and in the army? He'll be a Viking and fight the Balrog with water! :DDD I think I wanna see this film, even if it's Disney, Bollywood or worse! This picture looks like one of the old illustrations in books with myths about gods and heroes. A classical Siegfried!

I've never heard of this movie. But er, I think I need to see it. Half naked Karl sounds pretty good to me. Besides, I don't think I've really seen him in another movie before. Need to keep track of the boys. *nods*

I love a good action/historical/fantasy movie, so I'm sorry to hear this one wasn't very good. But I've been known to watch a movie for no other reason than to ogle a goodlooking guy. :)

Oh yes, Kevin will be a perfect resistance fighter when he grows up :)

For Viking descendents ( are you one, Suzy? ), this film might be a little bit distressing so be prepared mentally if you're going to watch it. As I was telling Cecilia, I know next to nothing about the history of the Vikings so I took the story with more than a pinch of salt.

But Karl is soooooooo sexy :DDD

No, I haven't seen that. Though, I will admit that for a little while, I was into him because of his size. He was the only *big* one I wanted to pair with Bana. I caught Urban in um... "The truth about demons" which was interesting :)

I wanted to see him in "Doom" but never got to it. Outside of that, that's all my Urban experiences :)

I understand you and I'm so glad I haven't to watch this film with my hubby. I think he would get up, run off the movies and demand his money back. He's anyway always complaining about every tiny little mistake in a film. *sigh*

Bad me, I even asked my sis who's playing in the movie when she told me Pathfinder is playing already. :P

I of course want to see it while imagining ELijah being with Karl. Heheheh.

Oh, really don't know my ancestror history but I tend to say I'm a viking yes. I know Viking's are portrayed in a certain way on films. I doubt I would be distressed seeing it. Generally "true" history in movies can be rather... fictional IMO. But then I'm not really good at Viking hisory either.

Mmmm... sexy Karl...

*imagines*

oh look! There's Elijah with him!

*dies*
