I've just finished reading James Patterson's Sam's Letters To Jennifer. Finished it within one day too, a record of sorts because since I discovered lj and its wonderful slash fanfics I never seem to be able to finish a book in less than 2 months ( the HP-books being the exception ).

Patterson wrote a lot of thrillers, some good some not so good, all of them bestsellers but this particular book is a love-story. Quite a novelty IMO for a man to write a romantic love-story, a good one too, and one written from a woman's POV, on top of everything. I dont know any other male novelist who write romance novels as well as he does. Heck he could even give some of the women writers, Danielle Steele for one, a run for their money. His other love story, Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas is good too.

Talking about men who wrote love-stories, does anyone know of any male slash-writers in the Lotr fandom? I'd love to read their fics, if there are any. I've read somewhere that more than 90%of slash are written and read by women so it'd be interesting to read that other 10% And there's this newspaper article someone had written about slash and it was quite an interesting read. Or you can read it here if you cant read that one.

Still on books, one of my favourite author is Allan Hollinghurst. I love his books not so much for the stories themselves but for the way he wrote them. I could just melt just from reading his beautiful lines. His books are about the love-lives of gays. One example of his lovely style is this paragraph ( one of the character in one of his novels The Spell was falling out of love with his boyfriend ) :

He thought how uncertain sex-magic was. It struck, and there was a tingle in the air around a man, and when you touched him it flowed around you too. Some people kept it for you for years, and when you saw them there was the same dependable shock, the shiver of rightness, the cool burn deep between the legs, the gentle thump on the chest, the private surrender of a smile. And with others it faded, like a torch left on, or with the quick disillusion that followed a hit of coke.

*sigh*
