It's a type of viral fever, sweetie, transmitted by mosquitoes. Yeah, after the snakes, the mosquitoes :(

Oh bless! That is awful. My father said a whole bunch of his friends got dengue fever in when they were serving in Vietnam... Terrible stuff.

Poor Layne, I read up on dengue fever and it sounds very painful, but fortunately it also sounds curable, thank goodness! Layne is in my thoughts for a quick recovery and return to health. <3

Hi there Monty! I'm back, finally, and quite recovered with no bad after-effects, thank God. Except that my skin is now dusky-coloured, thanks to the rashes which was terribly, terribly itchy I had half-thought that I'd die simply from those alone! And yeah, the bone-pain was horrible. Not for anything the disease is called 'Bone-Crusher Disease'*shudders*

Oh Damn. Poor Laynie. The blood tests must've come up positive for dengue. Gosh - I've had that, and it frickin' hurts. I hope it doesn't get worse. *frets* She'll know to take lots of fluids - there's nothing else she can do.

Hi there dearest Annwyn. Yup, I'm back from the hospital. Have been home for the past 3 days but to day is the first day that I feel truly good. It was quite a shock when the doctor said I had dengue. The rashes came out on the 6th day of fever and initially I thought, I hoped it was just measles. Heh, no wonder the antibiotics didn't work.

Luckily I had the mildest type of dengue. How about you - did you get the full-blown one?

Thank you, dearest Janet. I've been discharged from the hospital 3 days ago but today is the first day that I felt really good. No more headache, no more itchy rashes, no more bone pain, I'm just so grateful to be alive and feeling good!

Gracious, I hope she's better soon! Dengue fever's viral, so it's basically supportive care - fluids, rest, and things to treat symptoms.

She's definitely in my prayers.

Phew. I'm back, had been for the past 3 days. Am completely recovered by now, symptom-wise. I'm supposed to do a repeat platlet count tomorrow. It was at 136,000 when they discharged me. I got the typical 'sea-of-red-with-islands-of-white' rashes which were horribly itchy. That and the arthritis and the overall bone-pain and fever. It was terrible. Thank goodness I didn't get the haemorraghic type :)
