Each time LJ is down, I'd say to myself, I *will* transfer all my fics to DW but each time it's up, I'd dilly-dally. Again.

But do it I must since it seems quite impossible that I'd be able to write anymore ( there's nothing left in my head it seems ) so I must save what I had, to remind me that once upon a time I could do it!

I'm only thinking of copy-pasting my fics from LJ to here but what's this "import" thing that people are talking about here and there? Can I transfer the whole of my LJ ( old posts I mean, not the cross-posting thing )to DW, even the comments? Is it very difficult to do and is it time-consuming?

Yes, you can transfer it all over. It's not difficult and, when LJ is working correctly, not very time-consuming. Much easier than copying and pasting!! Go here: https://www.dreamwidth.org/tools/importer

Alas you won't be able to do it until this latest LJ crisis is over...

I'm pretty sure it keeps the original dates, so no you wouldn't be spamming with 5 years of postings.

Gosh, I don't know. It never took even remotely close to that long for the transfer. It was a matter of an hour or so at most. Maybe someone else knows the answer or you can send a message to DW asking. Wish I could be more help!

Nope, it's all automatic. It's not your comp doing it but their servers. You can shut down your comp, post, log out, log in here or in LJ, it doesn't stop halfway.

Oh, there's something about changing a password? Huh, must have missed that. I haven't changed my PW in... forever. The last time, I think, it was after someone hacked my account.

It's totally worth it to import everything from LJ, isn't it? And so easy too. :)

I'm pretty sure it keeps the same settings but you can also just change all of them to private using the "mass privacy tool" at http://www.dreamwidth.org/editprivacy.

Oh, that's only a security precaution because you're essentially telling DW what your LJ password is, right? They suggest you make a temporary password just for the transfer and then change it back afterward.... or you can change your password permanently to keep your account secure. It's not really a big deal. I mean, I'm sure some people are worried about their accounts getting hacked but I really doubt anyone would be interested in little old me, for example. :)
