The water is deep and calm, and the river is not so wide. Nothing to be frightened of. I can swim, and the boat, crafted by the elven kind, is the most hardwearing of the sort. Nothing perilous will come to me. I will be safe.
But not my heart. Inside I am shaking. I know not what I shall be facing at the other side of the river. The woods look dark and menacing. I am not prepared to face it. Not when I am alone.
I know I should not regret having told Aragorn to keep Sam from going with me. I should not regret having slipped quietly away from him.
Sam, I need you.

The river is wide and the water is deceptively calm. I am afraid. I can't swim and I don't trust the boat even though it was made by the elves. We are going to our deaths.
I know that you're going to Mordor without me. I don't have to overhear you talking to Aragorn, asking him to keep me from going with you. I can see it in your eyes. Your eyes that could never hide anything. Not from me at least.
You are strong. You are brave. You can do this alone if need be. But I can't let you go. I have made a promise and Samwise Gamgee always keep his promise. Always.
Mr Frodo, wait for me.
