Anyone here has read [livejournal.com profile] elohvee's We Were Twenty? There's like, a gazillion comments to her fic there, surely there's someone on my flist who has read it?

Shinta, Monty, Arabia, Allyson? Anybody? Please? I'm a wreck here. Read that story last night. Stayed up the whole night because I simply couldn't stop and yeah, I'm crying right now.

Do go read if you haven't already. It's utterly and totally ... sublime. Angst and schmoop aplenty. Extreme angst and extreme schmoop, I should say.

Summary : Sam is badly injured, and hunting is no longer an option for him. They choose to stay at a small suburbia in Virginia. Dean gets a job at the local garage while Sam continues with his studies, eventually becoming a lawyer. He convinces Dean to go to night classes and study to become a teacher, because yeah, Dean is good with kids.

But not all is domestic bliss for them. The call to hunt is strong, and Dean starts hunting alone, despite Sam's protests. And Dean, well, he has his own insecurities, too, because he couldn't really believe that what they have now is enough for Sam, and he's still thinking that Sam's going to leave.

It's every small suburban town. Every place Sam's turned wistful and dewy-eyed, every place Dean's scoffed. It slides past the window at the speed limit. A church and a grocer's and an auto shop. A local nutjob psychic and an animal hospital.

Dean pulls down a smaller street by the library. Flat little suburban homes, a place for the young, new families and frail little cat ladies, for the stooped old men who scream at the kids crossing their lawns.

Sam leans into the window. Presses his nose to the glass like a little kid. He says, "Dean?"

Dean flexes his hand on the gearshift. Without purpose, just because. It's a nervous tic he's always had. He sighs and shakes his head. "Shut up, Sammy."

The problem is, I looked at that one and it said something about "the day he buried his brother" and I simply cannot DO deathfic!!!!!!!!!! I have a horrible fear of it. But I want to be there for you, since you after all were there for me when I was weeping over As Meat Loves Salt. *wibbles*

Oh baby, they had years together before that happened, and what they had was worth the ending. Well, almost. I'm still all over the place now.

*wavers* But STILL.... death. :(

I've read other stories by that author, and she is very talented. Or at any rate the name is familiar. Well, maybe (only for you) I'll give it a go! Now if only the type weren't so small and insufficiently contrasty.

Here's an incentive. Dean first day as a teacher and Sam's already a lawyer.

After Labor Day, Dean takes charge of a group of twenty-four eight-years-olds.

The first morning, Sam watches him from the kitchen table with reams of review papers and piles of book. Court cases, constitutional amendments. Dean drinks his coffee and contemplates his brother. "Criminal law was a stupid idea, Sammy."

"It'll be useful once you get sued for child abuse."

"I will not get—"

"Dean, listen to me now. No stories about the car or hunting. No AC/DC, no Zeppelin—none of your usual music. No looking up porn during naptime. You get one recess period, not six. And if they ask you to show them how to throw knives, you say—"

Dean frowns. "Should've traded you for cigarettes when I had the chance."

"You don't give up true love for a pack of smokes, Dean. Just isn't right."

This is my first [livejournal.com profile] elohvee's fic. God, to think that I could have easily missed this!

Of course! But it's so long, I doubt I'll be able to stay awake for the whole thing. I'm already a bit sleepy, probably because of waking up too early this morning and then doing yard work.

Meanwhile I'll get myself prepared for a good cry. :( SAMMY!!!! :(

No no no. That was so wrong. In a lovely way.

No more death fics, I swear. Angst, sure, in droves, but no death. Then again I recall one where Dean dies at the end of his year, while Sam is holding him and making sure Dean's soul goes to Heaven first. I lived through that fic.

That said, I am all about the love going on forever!

I took it on holiday with me.

I'd saw the character death warning but I forgot. I read the end sitting round my brother-in-law's pool at a big family BBQ and balled my eyes out. Try explaining that one!

I loved it, loved the tone and feel of of. Loved it.

I don't really mind death-fics esp when they're well written. And hey, they had all those yrs together. Dean was 37 when he died, if Sam did not get injured and they were to carry on hunting as usual, who's to say that they wouldn't die young? You know, with the life they lead.

Dean dies at the end of his year, while Sam is holding him and making sure Dean's soul goes to Heaven first

Do you have the link? I'd love to read that.

It's kind of interesting in a way, there're these two death fics I've read in which Sam died, and Dean followed not long after but if it's Dean who died, Sam lives on. Any thoughts on that?

I'm alright now. But the first couple of hours yesterday was baaad, I kept thinking "no no no no".

I thought Dean was going to die of brain tumour or something when he stared having those headaches. Omg Dean in glasses. And Sam with a cane. Sexy ...

Teacher!Dean is so, so adorable. I kept thinking of teacher!Elijah in 'Damaged'. Soooo cute!

By the way, remember 'For the End of My Broken Heart'. The sequel should be posted anytime soon. Or maybe it has been posted already, I haven't checked my flist yet. The author put up a few snippets and omg they're good. Expect to see lots of jealous!Sam :DD

It's a very beautiful story, Shinta. Don't let that death thing put you off, because that comes way, way at the end, and the years that they had together were so very beautiful! * melts melts melts*

You'd see Dean with glasses in the story and what could be sexier than that?

Death thing won't put me off, but makes me hard, literally hard to breath. :)

I'll try.

Btw, perhaps you have a saved file of the fic? (It's too long to upload the pages and copy and paste. Bwahahahaha.)

Very interesting point, about Sam often living on. There seems to be an overall sense that Dean absolutely canNOT survive without Sam. Maybe it's because he is so determined to keep his emotions hidden, and that makes us fangirls want to make him into the most totally romantic character who can't live without his inamorato. I can see that happening. Nevertheless, I HATE the thought of either of them being without the other. Ever!

Since I suck at saving links, I'm going to have to go to SPN-storyfinders and see if someone can help find that fic again - about Dean's soul going to Heaven. That's a great comm - the storyfinders! I find great stories through that. The archives are great for poring through and finding new stuff.

It's canon IMO, that Dean wouldn't want to continue living if Sam died. You'll see it in Season 2 'Crotoan'. And he said that he didn't want to do it alone in the Pilot episode when he came to get Sam after John went missing. Dean's needy, behind all those bravado and stuff. Remember 'Dead Man's Blood'? God, I could cry for him when Sam said that he was going back to college once the demon's dead.

I love SPN-storyfinders! You could more or less customize what you want there. Hee, I got my rentboy!Dean fix from that comm *g*

Speaking of Croatoan, I got the email from Barnes&Noble that they have shipped my season 2 DVDs! I am so excited, I might watch them ALL without stopping. Can you imagine? I'd best go and lay in sufficient food and supplies in preparation.

Now go over to SPN storyfinders and you'll see that someone found that story for me. It is so deeply moving and sad, it's gorgeous. Called Jaws of Life and also it has a "sequel" which really happens before, called Avalance. Both are incredible. Read them but be prepared to cry.
