layne67Jonathan Stroud's 'The Golem's Eye', the 2nd book in the Bartameus trilogy is quite an interesting read. It starts out quite slow than the tension and excitement slowly builds up until it reaches its explosive final chapter. Though I have to say that Nathaniel, the young magician gets on my nerves at times, not unlike a certain young wizard. Kitty is wonderful. She's the equivalent to Hermione if I may say so. Witty, smart and brave, that's Kitty. But unlike Hermione she's not a witch, or magicians as they're called in this book.
But to me the hero in this book is NOT Nathaniel but Bartameus ( just like Snape and not Harry who's my hero ), the loud-mouthed, outspoken seriously funny demon. Or djinni as he prefers to be called. Without him the book would have been quite dark, Nathaniel has no sense of humour whatsoever and Kitty takes things too seriously. Not that I blame her considering what she had gone through.
But Bartameus omg the things that he said and thought, they literally made me fall out of the chair laughing. He is thousands of years old and has served under many illustrious masters such as Ptolemy, among others. His anecdotes on them are simply priceless!
On another note. I've gained another 5kgs.
Ouch.
Unavoidable of course. And totally necessary. But still ...
Bought 3 more books - Jeffrey Deaver's The Twelfth Card, Stephen King's Song of Susannah ( and I havent even read Wolves of Calla yet ) and PD James's The Lighthouse. I just fall short of squeeing when I saw the latter. PD James, my modern day Agatha Christie. Now what I have to do is to find the TIME to read not only these 3 books but the dozens still waiting on my bookshelves.

I just love the smell of new books fresh out of the bookstores. Other than the smell of newly-baked bread, freshly cut grass, new money, babies and Estee Lauder's Pleasure.
