I'm buying new face powder tomorrow and can't quite decide which brand to buy. I don't really stick to any one brand of skincare / makeup, I got bored looking at the same packagings after a while.

So, any suggestion / recommendation on what brand I should try next? What brand are you using right now? Do you have any brands that you swear by?

I'm using this right now, and it's good for a few more days. I don't really use much make-up, just some powder foundation and a dash of lipstick on workdays, and I'm good to go. I put in more effort on non-working days, but as much as I'd like to, I don't do eye makeup. Never could manage to apply them properly - the eyeshadows, and the eyeliners ( hopeless! ) and the mascara ( my eyes are kind of allergic to it, and it never fail to smudge my glasses ).

So, any recommendations for face powder, with or without foundation?

oh I am no help. I don't use foundations. I use a little dusting of powder on my nose and the bridge of nose to smooth out shine. I use moisturizors, eyeliner and pencil (wet qtips really smooth out booboos great, I need to use them every day), blush (love Clinique's mousse blush, it goes a long way), lipstick, and mascara, which my eyes are sensitive to also but I love maybelline Define-A-lash.

Oh you use the whole makeup thing then, except face powder! Your complexion must be good *is envious* My face would look kind of dull if I go without it.

What brand moisturiser do you use?

I'm afraid I almost never wear makeup - when I do, it's Clinique (my sister used to sell it, and I liked it when she got me samples).

I like Clinique. I've used it before. Hmm, maybe I should try that brand again, but from another line. And I love getting samples. I wish I have a sister working at a beauty company too!

I can't use any powder or foundation or my skin will break out even worse than it does now. I've been battling oily, troubled skin all my life.

Yes, face powder would clog up the pores and make matters worse if you have oily skin. You've tried the brands that grandly claim that their products "do not clog pores" then?

I like L'Oreal mineral powders in the mosaic compacts. They're really light and you can barely tell you're wearing them, but they add just a touch of color.

From: [identity profile] layne67.livejournal.com
I love using products like that. God, I hate it when makeup make your face look all caked-up or something.

We do have L'Oreal here but not that mineral powders that you mentioned. Not that I know of anyway. I'll ask their beauty consultants tomorrow about it. It sounds intersting, esp the barely-there part.

I usually get a cheaper brand of foundation/concealer, like Cover Girl. My fave has been a compact that combines a cream foun. with a powder one... basically cream, lol, but it's very soft and nice on the skin. I use it mostly to help my face look better--always had probs with acne!

Now CASEY, ugh, he just buys the WAY cheap stuff and looks like a street-corner ho. ;)

Date: 2008-03-29 05:33 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] layne67.livejournal.com
We used to have Cover Girl sold here before but for some reasons it had been taken off the local market a few years back. No idea why. I remember that it was a popular brand with the younger each group.

I love the powder-foundation combination, too! It saves time, for one thing.

Zeke should start buying Casey the better stuff. He wouldn't want Case's porcelain-smooth complexion spoilt, would he?

Ooo, makeup talk!!!

I've been using MAC loose powder---can't remember the name of it but I believe they only have one type---and I really, really love it. Before that, I used Clinique loose powder and liked that one a lot, too.

I firmly believe that many drugstore brands are just as good as expensive brands, and I've also been using CoverGirl pressed powder, but I see you can't get that where you are. I don't use many powders/foundations from the drugstore, however, simply because I can never seem to get the right color match. Most seem too peach/pink/beige/etc. And nowadays? L'Oreal foundation is nearly $12.00 a bottle, and for less than half again that much I can get Clinique!

I can talk about make-up for hours, though I wear much less nowadays than I did when I was in my 20s. I piled it on back then. :)

P.S. L'Oreal's TruBlend blush is awesome.

We have MAC here but unfortunately only very few places carry that brand, and none near my place.

When I have the time, I use foundation and loose powder separately. The ones I'm currently use are Clinique derma white brightening loose powder ( the "whitening" and "brightening" ranges are big with Asians ) and Clinuque dewy smooth *coughs* anti-aging *coughs* foundation. Love these two products, they really live up to their names!

I've used L'Oreal skincare range but not the makeup yet.

And I don't use blushes. I've been told that, ahem, I have a natural blush. I used to before though.

I'm no help at all! I rarely wear make-up these days ... just a bit of eyeliner...:-) And my eyeliner is just plain black. Nothing fancy. And I'm sure I don't apply anything correctly...but good luck! *hugs*

I dont use powder, I find it unnecessary for me, but I do sometimes use foundation (Presciptives to match my skin exactly, highly recommended) or if I'm in a hurry and need to cover up I use Benefit's Some Kind of Gorgeous which is a 'foundation faker'. I wasnt sure how to describe it so I looked it up. The blub I found says: "What it is:A sheer, oil-free, cream-to-powder complexion perfector. What it is formulated to do:This lightweight, translucent, foundation-like product smoothes out imperfections and evens skin tone with a silky, smooth finish that's super natural and super gorgeous. What else you need to know: Comes in one shade that's perfect for most skin tones" so sounds good doesnt it?

Prescriptive is one of the brands that I've wanted to try for quite some time, but I couldn't get it at my place, it being sold at only a few slected places at our capital city.

The description to Benefit's foundation-faker sounds sooo mouth watering ... We don't have that brand here at all though :(

Clinique for me. Lip gloss and facial soap. And Aveda for shampoo because Clinique discontinued my favorite. I hate when that happens!

I hate it when that happens, too!

Ahh, shampoos. I'm still looking for the perfect brand. The one that I'm using now is Klorane nourishing treatment shampoo, which is quite good. It makes my hair feels smooth and soft - *flicks hair* Metaphorically. My hair is short.

My favourite lipstick is Clinique Different Lipstick - Honey Ginger. And I love Clinique's facial soap. I'm currently using Avene soapless foaming gel, which I don't really like :(

I wonder what products the boys are using, esp Jensen :))

I absolutely love make-up, I never get out without a bit of eyeshadow and mascara on my eyes. But I don't use face powder or foundation very often, just on occasion (by "Rimmel" or "Deborah", but I don't know if those brands are known outside Italy).

Have a nice Sunday, Lin sayang!

No, we don't have Rimmel or Deborah here. Hee, one of these days, you have to make a post on how to apply eye makeup properly!!

We're going to watch 'Water Horse' in a short while. I really want to see 'Gone Baby Gone' but it's not showing near my place. Bought the pirated dvd, which is blurry :(

Have a good weekend, mia cara *smooches you*

I have really oily skin (advantage: no wrinkles yet!) so I need make-up if I don't want to look like I'm ready for the barbecue spit. I've tried pretty much everything, but I've been using MAC for the last 10 years or so. Loose powder, foundation, lipstick, eyeliner and eyeshadow - I think it's the best. I'm allergic to all brands of mascara though - just like you.

I have combination skin which is getting drier and drier lately. Or maybe I've been using the wrong products. I'm using the Shiseido White Lucent range for night and day moisturiser. Which I can't wait to finish off! I'm eyeing the Dior range next, which I haven't tried yet. Ha, it's for things like these that I sometimes find myself wishing that I live in big cities. MAC is only available in KL, and so is Prescriptive that a friend has mentioned above.

Btw hon, have you been to this place (http://www.joeysmedgrill.com/joeysexperience/locations)?

Oh, maybe I could help you if you lived in Germany, but I doubt you have the same brands as we. I use an inexpensive make-up brand from France. This one, just for information. Their products are a bit a nature based and it works wonderfully for me. It's the only foundation that doesn't make my eyes hurt, like in your case the eye make-up.
So yeah, that was some hot air from my side. *lol*

I like compact type foundations, the ones that are like powder but you can build them up to hide things. One inexpensive (one of the few that doesn't make me itch) is by Maybelline PureStay and has SPF15 sunscreen in it.

I've tried one of Clinique's powder foundations, but didn't like it because it barely lasted 2 hours. But I got an email this week saying they've come out with a new one.

Good luck!

I like the compact foundation because it saves time! Two-in-one with one application. It gives me more time for LJ just before I rush off to work heheh.

But I do use foundation and loose powder separately, and I use Clinique for both.

You have sensitive skin, right? Have you tried the Estee Lauder Verite range? I've heard that it's good for calming sensitive skin.

I'm using Bless, it's from Ristra. Indonesian made, though. I guess they won't sell the product in Malaysia? I like this one because it suits my complexion. I choose the darkest color available.
Previously, I used L'Oreal, Revlon, Ultima II. Ah, I don't remember the rest. I used Ultima II because it's my mom's powder.

Date: 2008-03-31 08:58 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] layne67.livejournal.com
No, we don't have Ristra here. But I had used Mustika Ratu once, when I was a student.

I've used L'Oreal before, and I have Revlon in my office's drawers, for touch-ups. Never use Ultima 11 before.

Do you share makeup with your Mum and sister?
