I offer it to public consideration, that Dean Winchester is made of hate. Born into a family - that on surface seemed loving and normal; his father was a hardened Marine, his mother a possible fraternizer with demons - Dean Winchester suffered great trauma early on. At four he witnessed the arson/murder of his home and mother: at this time the charge of his infant brother, Sam, put in his hands. Thus was born and bred a single-minded soldier, schooled in the hatred of demons and all things girly.

I feel cleansed. Now I can wallow in my Dean-grief without feeling that I should be guilty of not being feminist enough :)

When I was new to this fandom, I was always confusing Sam and Dean, and Jared and Jensen ...

But anyway, Jared/Sam does have his good points, remember I was a Sammy/Jared girl once, and I thought Dean was atrocious and Jensen was just ordinarily good-looking.

I LOVE IT! The bit about Dean wanking in the reference section of librarys? I read that just as the work phone rang, I picked it up absentmindedly and then realised OMG I need to say something!?! and had completely forgotten where I was or how to greet someone. Just brilliant and an excellent way to hopefully bring about some perspective in all this wank.

You know, this past couple of days, I had been borderline miserable, thinking about people saying all those nasty things about Dean, but now after reading what Kimonkey wrote, I just don't care! They can say whatever they want about Dean, it's their right, I'll take Dean for what and who he is, warts ( figuratively speaking of course, I'm sure Jensen/Dean has none ) and all :DD

I know what you mean. I have been a bit outraged/upset/miserable about it. Especially now. The boys in hell and this shit being said about him. You know? And fandom has been so quite on all other fronts, as if the wank was sucking the energy out of everything. And over something so ridiculous. Just ggrrrr! But now, I'm hoping we all take a deep breath, write it off as people focusing on something else so they didn't have to focus on their grief after the finale and move on.

I love Dean just the way he is, I wouldn't change a thing. And nothing anyone said was going to change that. If they didn't like him then that just left more for me!

Dean is utterly, irreversibly damaged. He's dangerous, violent, and possibly psychotic. That's why I love him so. The only reason Sam isn't quite as bad is because Dean protected him as much as he could. But Sam's damaged too. Which is why I love him so.

Oh dear God, I wonder how Dean's going to be like in Season 4. He's already soooo damaged, how could Kripke make him worse than he already is. I just hope he's not going to turn him into a demon. Evil!Sam I could take, if it meant him saving Dean, but not demon!Dean. Ruby said that she was a human once, thousands of years ago, so I guess, I HOPE there's not enough time for Dean to be turned into one!

I've got a thing for the bad boy image and Sammy's just too much of a puppy for me to love, I just want to kick him. That's why I live evil! possessed!Sam or hardcore!Sam.

Oh and for your geography question, Kansas City actually straddles the State line of Kansas and Missouri, so that would mean he's from the Missouri side of KC. There isn't much on the Kansas side of KC, so there's always been this "debate" as to whether or not Kansas City is actually the biggest city in Kansas cuz not all of its freaking in Kansas.

My love for Dean came much later actually. It was only when I realized that Dean has these layers to his persona, that he was actually a very fucked-up man with mountains of issues, that the smirking, devil-may-care facade that he put on was just that, a facade, and that inside Dean was very much insecure, that was when I started to fall in love with him. It was all Sam before that!

Thanks for the Kansas info. I was talking to a friend on how much David C reminds me of Dean, not in looks but in his overall attitudes, and hey, David has a cute brother, too. And I thought it cool that David is from Kansas ( City ) :D

Yeah, well I got started watching this because my friends were: Ohmigod! It takes place in Kansas! In Lawrence!

Then there was the episode where the girl living in their old house (Jenny) mentioned she'd recently moved to Lawrence from Wichita. Then my friends really spazzed out and said this show was "made" for me.

Cuz I'm Jenny from the block and actually did move from Wichita to Lawrence and then to Taiwan. ^_^

So now I'm cool right? ^_~

Unfortunately I was never one to take photos of scenery, not even in places where I've lived. The only thing I can say about the Lawrence, KS in Supernatural is that it's a bit too quaint. There are places like that away from the center of the town and the university, but down where the university is it's like any college town with a student body pop of 40,000.

I have a fiction I wrote (mid season 01) where I describe Lawrence a bit and what it must've been like for Dean and Sam to grow up amongst college kids. Then as the show aired the cannon blew some pretty massive holes in my story. *sigh* Oh well.
