Did you see the part where Simon apologized to David Cook? I wonder whether the judges already knew who won by that time. And Cook winning by 12 million votes, is that a lot? I mean, compared to the previous AI winners.
I did see Simon apologizing to Cook, and it was great! I don't think the judges knew for sure, but it seemed like Simon had watched the broadcast or tape or something, and realized he was a bit harsh.
12 million votes seems like a lot, but when you're talking about 97.5 million votes, it's really not. I think it was 56 million votes to 44 million. They've never had that number of votes before, and I don't think they even came close to that many. So I think it was a relatively close race.
Yeah, he probably doesn't appreciate looking like a fool!
You know, I really wish they'd get rid of Randy. For a producer, he seems to have remarkably little to say that's of any real value. "Dawg, that was molten hot!" or "You can sing anything, dude, you can sing the phonebook!" are probably not as helpful as he thinks. I wish they'd replace him with Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, except that he probably lives in England most of the time. Or replace him with almost anyone.
While I think Paula always tries to have something encouraging to say, it's not usually that coherent. Surely there must be another musician who's a little more articulate, who can dispense more helpful words of wisdom than, "You're so yourself. You're who you are." Um, yeah, thanks.
Do you know Ben Elton? He mostly writes satires, and his books are absolutely brilliant and hilarious. If you have the time, I highly reccommend Chart Throb (http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/e/ben-elton/chart-throb.htm). His description of the three judges in the book is spot-on for Simon and Randy, though not so much for Paula.
Thanks for the rec! Our library system doesn't carry it, so I ordered a used copy from Amazon. It sounds pretty good. Plus, if he wrote for Black Adder and Mr. Bean, there's a good chance I'll like his sense of humor.
I haven't been reading too many actual books that aren't directly related to Supernatural, because I've mostly be reading fan fic. I'm almost finished (again) with the Vorkosigan saga, by Lois McMaster Bujold. Those are fascinating.
My mom keeps recommending books I have absolutely no interest in, because she liked them and wants to talk about them, but often by the time I finish one, she's forgotten it. Her short-term memory is really lousy, but her doctor is sure it's all the medication she's taking, not Alzheimer's!
I've just started reading Past Mortem, and I picked up Dead Famous as well, both from the library. It might be a couple of weeks before I receive Chart Throb.
I have so much fanfic here to read it isn't funny. The problem is the vast majority is Wincest, and even though I've got them printed out, often with titles and covers that don't give anything away, I still feel odd reading them around my mother. She *always* wants to know what I'm reading. And why. She doesn't yet know about Wincest, as far as I know, and I'd like to keep it that way. So I mostly read it in my room, when I'm pretty sure she's taking a nap or is going to be downstairs watching TV for hours. A lot of evenings, I'm so tired after work that I just don't want to start anything that's long, though I love reading a really good, involving, Wincest novel-length fic.
My mom knows about slash -- doesn't approve, mind you, but she knows about it -- but the Wincest is different. I think if Sam and Dean were just friends, even if they'd been raised together but weren't blood relations, she'd be a lot cooler with it.
But to get back to Ben Elton, I do like black comedy, so I think I'll enjoy the books. I couldn't find your post. I think I remember reading it at the time, maybe, but I couldn't find it doing a search of your journal with Ben Elton as the subject, just a couple of brief mentions.

Heh, fanfics are very distracting. I used to be able to finish a book within a couple of days but now it takes me months! :(
