'Kay, i've just been re-watching this episode, and I LOVE the whole thing. One of the best episodes around without a doubt. And I myself tearing up all over again.

And I refuse, I totally refuse to choose that scene when Dean woke up with Carmen beside him, and he saw that photo in the living room. His expression when he saw that OMG. And I totally refuse to choose that scene when he saw his Mom for the first time *cries*, and when he ate that sandwich Mary made. No, no, no - I'm choosing this happy scene. Yes, it's Dean mowing the lawn. For the first time in his life, he got to. Mow. The. Lawn.

The song "What a Wonderful World" starts playing. And what a perfect song for this particular scene that is.


Because Dean has no inkling yet that this world is just in his head. He probably thinks that by some miracle, the djinn has granted his subconcious wish, to have this life, a life full of colours and mothers who make sandwiches and fathers who died of natural causes.


By the look of it, Dean has never done this before LOL. Which was what Mary said earlier when Dean peered out of the window and said that the lawn looked like it needed mowing. And Mary said, "Knock yourself out. Think you'd never mowed a lawn in your life."


Go Dean!!

It's a wonderful world indeed.


I love this scene because this is Dean at his happiest. Not that he has never been happy before, he has, but this, this Dean is full of an almost child-like joy, pushing the lawn-mower with abandon, yes, joy. And I want to see Dean smiling and happy over and over again, because I don't think we'd ever get to see this Dean again. Unless there's another alternate reallity episode of course.

Here, Dean is not a hunter and not thinks any death deals. He's the real guy who relaxes and loves this family life.The thing that would be is 'for how long?'

Yeah, unfortunately, he found out soon enough that there's something wrong with this new place - the ghostly visions of the girl ( the other victim ), and Sam and him not getting along. I think that's the main thing that burst his bubble of happiness :(

Oh, my... you chose it right! It is Dean in his happiest! Cos he got mom and the sun is shining and he mows the f'cking lawn!
I love this ep as a whole (actually it's the one big scene for me not that i tend to cheat).
And i love small details in it such as fisrt in Dean's life mowing - he never did it before and that'a why (i believe) we don't see razors in the lawn mower.
He will be smiling and he will be happy i believe in it bot not like that - with his bro but w/o his mom and happy feelings of 'all's alright' inside *sighs and hugs Dean*

Oh, it didn't occur to me that that lawn mower has no razor! I guess the whole thing is a product of his own head, of his own innermost wish, one that maybe he himself doesn't realize that he has!

The saddest thing about this episode for me is he and Sam not getting along. That is tragic indeed!

I hated this alternative world. I hated how un-appreicated Dean was. I HATED his relationship with Sam. And I HATED WITH A PASSION Dean's acceptace that this was good enough for him, that he didn't deserve even more than this in his perfect world.

But this scene, Dean's simple delight in such a mundane task, this I like.

You don't hate the episode per se, do you? You just hate how Dean as Dean was treated, because I really thought WIASNB one of the finest episodes, and Jensen did a superb job in it.

I hate it that Sam didn't like Dean in this alternate reality, and I didn't get that, because if it was all in Dean's head, then why did he make Sam hate him? I posed this question a little while back, and there're some well-thought out responses here (http://layne67.livejournal.com/304537.html). Do give it a read! They gave me some insights, things that I've never thought of regarding WIASNB.

This scene actually made me cry the first time I saw it - because Dean *was* so happy, and he had no idea that it was all in his own head.

This episode grew on me. It gets better and better with repeated viewings. And I was completely floored, yet again, when I re-watched it this morning. Jensen gave a simply superb performance in it! I choked up when when Dean sees Mary for the first time, when he leans into her caress, when he decides that he has to leave ...

I wonder which scene is that! Yup, great episode all around, and I had a tough time choosing which scene. That scene where Dean "talked" to John by John's graveside is great, too. And Dean's crestfallen face when he realized that he and Sam from this reality do not get along :/

Have you read that? I've never thought of Dean that way before, and it had been niggling at me for ages on why Dean didn't make that alternate reality as perfect as possible. Poor Dean, having such a low opinion of himself, and the ANGST!!

I think this episode was one of the finest psychological dramas ever written for TV that I've seen, regardless of it being SPN. And Jensen did an unbelievable job, not just with his lines, but with all his physical acting, from the tiniest facial movements to his whole body. Just amazing. The insight into Dean's character advanced the show light years ahead. I can't help but be utterly fascinated every time I watch it. And as a mom who loves my son so dearly and has such a close connection to him, I can't help but cry every time I see his face after Mary touches him before she goes off to bed. *weeps*

I totally think that Jensen had been robbed of an Emmy, at least for that episode. He shone in it. Come to think of it, Jensen's usually at his best when he's with someone older - John, Ellen, Bobby, the lady who played his mother in 'Devour'. Have you seen that movie? It's BAD, but that scene when he was with his mum, totally divine.

And he's, well, I won't say bad, but he doesn't seem to have any chemistry with young women. 'No Exit' to me was a disaster because there was no spark at all between him and Jo.

I read that his character Eric in DOOL wasn't given a romantic storyline until much, much later, and he didn't get to kiss any of his leading ladies for quite some time eiteher. I wonder whether that was because of the lack of chemistry, too.
