I'd imagine that everyone who worked closely with Kim must have known. Kim had such a presence on the show, the cast and crew must be heartbroken. It's a great loss to everyone who knew him and to the show itself.

I've always wondered, in a marginal kind of way, whether Kim had a chronic disease or something, him being thin and all. Is it known what kind of cancer that he had?

He's such a lovely man, Julia, and he had brought so much into SPN. And the boys had said once that they loved Kim Manners, that he was their favourite director. And he was also one of the main men of The X-Files.

I know, sweetie. We get to feeling like we almost know the people who work on the show, after seeing them in the extras on the DVDs. They're almost like family to those of us who love the show and the boys so much. It's so sad. *hugs you close*

I'm looking forward to a tribute episode. And I'm definitely going to watch 'Bugs' tonight. Remember what Jensen said about Kim? That he was a hands-on director? And I remember reading somewhere that Kripke had specifically asked the boys not to fool around during shooting of 'No Rest for the Wicked' because Kim had a lot on his mind then. I thought it was just the stress of directing a finale, but maybe he already knew about his cancer then?

Oh Shinta, remember that Paley forum, when Kim said he auditioned for Sam? God, for some reasons that's the first thing I thought about when I read about this news.

Do you remember which episodes he directed? I can only remember Bugs and No Rest for the Wicked.

You know what I've thought of? His episodes are always full of close ups of Sam and Dean. And he had special angles only he could make. *sobs* And his episodes were really, really the ones I was looking forward to. *sobs* I'm so sad, very, very sad.

It was such a shock! I feel like I "knew" Kim in the same way I "knew" J2. He always seemed like such a cool guy, a fanboy in his own right. I'm sure it's going to be so different without him.

I keep remembering the things that they said about him in that Paley forum, how he came into the show, what he did to SPN, and most of all I remember the way he deadpanned "I read for Sam". Oh I do hope there'll be episodes as yet unaired that were directed by him. I heard this week's episode will be his?

He directed Heart, and I believe all the season enders. One article said he directed 17 episodes of SPN in all, more than any other director.

In IMDB he's only listed as Exec Producer for this new episode. I think maybe he also directed A Very Supernatural Christmas. The most recent ep he directed was Family Remains.

He just seemed so vital to the overall show, as a director and exec producer. He really seemed to love working on the show. I know he directed 52 episodes of X-Files. I thought he was terrific on the Paley panel, and seemed genuinely happy to be involved with the show and with everyone involved. I can't find anything that lists upcoming episodes that have his name attached, but I agree with you 100%, I hope he directed one or two we haven't seen yet.

I never could remember any of the directors from other TV shows, can hardly remember any of the other directors in SPN itself actually, but Kim Manners I know. He really did make his presence felt, didn't he?

He brought so much to the show, Mely, and from what I've read, he was like family not only to the boys, but to the rest of the cast and crew. He pranked Jared and Jensen almost as much as they pranked him!
