Of angels and humans. And elves.

tigriswolf's History Written On The Body in which Castiel ruminates on the complexity of humans in general, and Dean specifically, made me think of Tolkien's elves, how those immortal elves could actually die by way of an injury, or of grief. Now I'm a little bit confused on how an angel can die, Kripke's angels that is. I've read a few metas here and there and still I don't quite get it, my brain's hurting from all the theories and what Uriel said or what Anna said.
But, wouldn't it be romantic if an angel, like the elves, can die of a broken heart? Not breaking up my One OTP or anything but oh, to think of Castiel grieving over Dean, and he dies because of it? Yeah, yeah, my head's full of Castiel these days *g*

An excerpt from History Written On The Body : Humans are the most intricate of all Father’s creations. By far, they are the most confusing. Castiel has watched them continuously for two thousand human years and barely scratched the surface. He knows he could shadow Dean, in particular, for the rest of the man’s life and learn something new every moment. He replays Dean’s actions and words in his mind, wondering what it would be like to have scars that showed he’d lived.
Do read! Dean's exchange with Castiel on the wonders of a human's scars and imperfections is simply delightful.
Dean : “Those scars, the aches and pains—they showed where I’d been. That I’d survived.”
And speaking of Tolkien, who do you think Sam and Dean would bond with if they ended up in Middle Earth? I'm thinking Sam with Faramir ( books! )and Dean with Boromir ( weapons and their rides and their little brothers ). And Denethor with John ( their sons ), Castiel with Legolas ( the mortality of humans, of course. ) And err, the YED with Sauron, on uhm, the colour of their eyes.
Now why aren't there any proper SPN/LOTR written anywhere? *laments*

Date: 2009-03-26 10:08 am (UTC)Tolkien based his world quite literally on the mythology of the fallen angel (plus ancient Greek gods, and all that). Kripke derives from the same myth, so it's only natural to find parallels. The eternal story told once more.

Date: 2009-03-26 11:57 pm (UTC)I think John would relate best to Elrond--lost his wife, sons running around getting revenge for it, one child doomed. They'd have lots to talk about!
And Bobby would hang out with Gandalf smoking pipeweed. *snickersnorts*
