How awesome was it to see Nicholas Cage's 'Knowing' right after watching SPN 4.18? There were the patented Nicholas Cage's special brand of "I'm-so-tortured" scenes of course ( to be rivalled only by Mel Gibson's ) but then there were also the prophet and prophecies that couldn't be unwritten, angels and the chosen children, Chevrolet going up in smokes and an apocalypse to boots!

I've always love Rose Bryne ever since I saw her in Wicker Park ( not so much in Troy though ) so it was good to see her in it. I got a bit annoyed at the end there when her character went hysterical when what happened to her could have been avoided before I remembered that it had been pre-destined, nothing could be changed, but still, there was a moment there when I felt like wringing her neck. The angels were creepy-looking, they looked more like Tolkien's elves than Castiel ( alas none of them was as beautiful as Legolas ). In fact we thought they were aliens initially until we saw the wings. That was gorgeous, the special effects of the children being taken.

Father and son's separation was heart-wrenching, I cried buckets, but I still thought Nicholas Cage was OTT, but then when was he wasn't?

Overall an enjoyable movie!

I'm glad you got to see it and enjoyed it. I thought about going to see Knowing, but I figured it would be a really sad ending, and since I'm just now climbing out of my depression, I couldn't handle it. I'd rather see a comedy right now.

We went to see that movie without knowing what it was all about. Hubby is a fan of Nicholas Cage and knowing that Cage was in that movie was enough for him. And there I was wondering was that an alien abduction movie? A horror movie? And then I was like, hey, it's an apocalypse movie! All that was missing were the demons :))

It's not exactly a sad ending though the scene where the father let go of his son was heart-wrenching. It ended on a hopeful note rather, new world and all. And like I said, fantastic side effects. Makes me wonder how SPN is going to create their apocalypse with their low budgets and all.

I have never heard that movie before. I wonder if it comes to Indonesia.

Btw, do you know the new movie, Push? My sis said there is little Sam there. :D

If it came to Indonesia maybe you should see it! It really made me think of SPN ( but then everything does nowadays heheh ). Instead of demons choosing the children, we have angels doing the choosing, and these kids can hear things and predict the future!

What is the movie 'Push' all about?

Here's from imdb. I actually don't know anything about it. :) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0465580/

Camilla Belle is there. Ever since I put her in my fic with Jensen, my sis keeps associating them together. heheh. I think she's much better than DH though.

I've no idea who Camilla is but Colin Ford is in it! He played young Dean in Something Wicked, didn't he?

Here's a heads up for something rec'd by [livejournal.com profile] princessofg

http://www.sequentialtart.com/article.php?id=1364

Here's a taste:

Academics are basically fans who are getting paid to analyze and obsess over their chosen subjects in ways not dissimilar from what goes on in fandom. I think the primary differences are formality, and available language: academia has very formal modes of transmitting knowledge, and a very specific language; fandom has an enormous variety of modes and languages to choose from, and "academic" is just one option among many. But really, many of the issues that fans are concerned with are identical to issues academics are concerned with.

My Wincest article is basically a ship manifesto: Sam and Dean are TOTALLY DOING IT OMG, and here's some awesome stories where they're TOTALLY DOING IT, because they SO ARE. Just dressed in academic language, that's all. It would be just fine for a fan meta community, especially if I add pictures of shirtless Jared to better illustrate my argument! (Actually, I think all academic articles should include pictures of shirtless Jared, just because.)

:D

Yes, I've seen that one being rec'd around, haven't got down to reading it properly yet, only skimmed it through. Wow, that Wincest thing is really being given a shout-out. And it came just after that last episode too! You haven't seen that one yet I take it?

Th last 4 episodes have been super-awesome IMO, such a contrast to the three before that ( Family Remains, After School Special and Carl Angel Is A Douchebag ) which I think were lamer than lame. But that's just me, there're people who thought those eps were brilliant.

I *think* you're going to love the last episode. Would love to hear your thoughts on it!

I get the episodes in batches of 3 (all hail to [livejournal.com profile] ghyste), and just devour them in one sitting, so they tend to blur. :D I don't take to much notice of what the eps are called. I'm up to 4.16. The series tend to follow a pattern, don't they? Introduce a story line, in-fill in the middle with episodes that don't really move the story forward, then pick up into it again. I'm not at all comfortable with the trend to have characters like Gordon and Uriel be the bad guys; OK, so Henderson came good, but it seems very racist. I'm also reserving judgement on this whole angel thing until I see where they're heading. I'm looking forward
to the next installments landing on my doormat. :)
