I'm not going to think too much about that episode or I'll go crazy nuts, especially with what/where/how Kripke's going to go with season 5.

So, just a couple of observations that have nothing to do with angels or demons or apocalypse.

One. I love Colin Ford. That boy can really act and he certainly held his own there against Jared. In fact, in all three flashback episodes, I prefer Sam to Dean, both the actors and the character Sam. Go figure.

Two. Dean taking his vows? If I didn't know anything about the story, and I accidentally turned the TV on during that scene, I would have thought, wow, that man is getting married, either to the man wearing the trench-coat ( haha ) , or the latter is performing a marriage ceremony on the other guy.

Is it Friday yet?

Edit : KC!Ruby would have beaten Dean to pulp if not for the devil's trap in NRFTW. Why was GC!Ruby so WEAK??

Yes, that kid is quite a good little actor! And I loved seeing bad-ass Castiel laying down the law with Dean. I liked that aspect of the Castiel-Dean relationship from the early episodes. It kind of got lost in a more touchy-feely kinda thing but I like this better. I want angel-on-Dean domination! I want Castiel as a dangerous, scary father, loving but slightly abusive. Kind of like John, but moreso.

But seriously, very much heartbreak. Like when Sam said, "You don't know me. You've never known me." I think Sam was just...just not Sam at that point. He tried to choke his brother. That shows how far from himself he's gotten.

Oh, my poor Dean. But you know he'll forgive Sam at the drop of a hat.

You realize we're going to be in agony all summer. Somehow. I don't know how exactly but we will.

I'm just shattered by this episode, I'm seriously hunting Kripke if he doesn't fix this shit.

What IS going on up there in heaven? It's like the angels and demons have change place or something. And oh, Dean is sooooo Castiel's bitch now. Though I could see ( or thought I could see ) the old Castiel struggling to come to the fore.

You know the one thing that I do NOT want to hear, ever? Dean calling Sam "Sammy" and Sam saying "It's Sam". That would break my heart like no other could, and yeah, I'm shallow that way.

I have to watch it again because I don't know if that was a real choke (referring to vshendria's comment) or a strong point his brother was making. In all honesty, I don't know if I respect all that is going on. It is so bizarre from the strength that these two brothers are supposed to have together. Then you have the angel, dark angel, deceptive angel, nontrusting angel but he looks so great in his trenchcoat wrecked kinda angel look Castiel. Who is evil? What happend to these brother's deep faith in each other?
I think the writing team is having problems in this. I loved the beginning of the season frills and then the angst starting back up, but it has gotten too bizarre the last episodes to me. The dedication these brothers have had, their closeness and bond as they grew together with no one else but themselves, is suddenly and too easily being seperated.
I really don't think Dean can judge and he needs to not be so black and white about Sam's blood. He has some dark shit going on inside from his hell days.
And...I like ruby. She may be an "enabler" but I think she would protect Sam...and Dean, and turn towards them if forced to choose ( or want to turn to them). OR I could be way off and need to go to bed and know whatever happens will happen.

Some people are saying that Sam choking Dean is pure hate, that there's no love left in Sam for his brother.

But no, I don't buy that. Sam think he's right, and when you can't see other people's POV and you think that those people ( read Dean ) are trying to stop you from doing the right thing, you'll do things that you won't otherwise do.

Same thing with Dean. If he could just try to get into Sam's head a little bit, a little give and take between them, things would be so different ...

Well, Sam was choking Dean alright, but then he stopped on his own accord, not because Dean fought him. So he's not all hate-hate-hate.

Castiel freaked me out. I think Angels want to free Lucifer because he's one of them and then humans and demons alike are screwed. Because all demons were once humans, right?

I was transfixed by some of the very clever editing, lighting, and camera angle choices, as well as all the fine performances. There were some shots in close up that were just a little odd in their angles, and made the whole situation between Sam and Dean seem even more distorted, stressed, and chaotic. Really brilliant, clever filmmaking!

P.S. three possibilities for Ruby being weaker. 1) she got hit with the magic knife first which does cause demons some extreme, electrical ouchiness, I suppose even in a superficial wound. 2) she didn't want to hurt Dean because she has to stay on Sam's good side to keep influencing him. 3) the creative team needed the main conflict/fight to be between Sam and Dean, so the Ruby and Dean fight had to be downplayed.

2 and 3 make sense *nods*. As for 1, it makes sense too but for the fact that GC!Ruby is weak ( compared to KC!Ruby ) throughout all of season 4, not just then.

I enjoyed that fight between Ruby and Dean in NRFTW. And I honestly was beginning to like/respect Ruby in Jus In Bello, when she was willing to sacrifice herself. And I swear it's not just because Katie Cassidy is no longer around, like those who miss Jo now that she's no longer a "threat" ( read Dean's love interest ). The first Ruby was spunky and I don't see that AT ALL in the second Ruby, not even when she wasn't around Sam, because yeah, there's the theory that says Ruby changed her personality to suit her needs.

I'm still intigued by the character Ruby though, and I do hope we'll get to know her backstory. If they did do that, it'd be intesting to see who they'll choose to play the real Ruby, the human Ruby before she became a demon.

No, I don't think hate was the reason for the choking. It was Sam showing Dean that he's stronger than Dean and that he could easily kill Dean if he wanted to.

Yeah, like what Uriel said. And probably the majority of the angels are like Uriel now, with Castiel and Anna in the minority. So if the bad angels wanted Lucifer released, that would make Lilith on the bad angels side, wouldn't it? And Ruby wants Lilith killed, so maybe Ruby wants Sam to be leader of the demons instead of Lucifer?

The best part in the epi for me is Sam met little!Sam. Yup, Colin is a very good actor. Sam's emo is there alright.
