A little brother that looked up to him, that he could trust. And I gotta tell you Sam, that kind of devotion? It's the best feeling.

So, our Dean has finally grown a pair. Good for him. Bad for me as I was hoping that the boys would be able to go back to the way they were, but hey, this show is about them, and I guess having them hug and kiss after what happened in season 4 would be way too easy, and if they wanted to continue torturing the Sam'nDean girls for a longer period of time, so be it.

As for the show per se, I was a bit disappointed because I thought it was rather jumpy, like a car driven by a drunk driver, and it hasn't got that "epic" feel you've come to expect of a season premier but more like a mediocre mid-season episode. It's nowhere near as good as IMTOD, or the pilot episode, or Lazarus Rising. Heck, I think it even made The Magnificent 7 looked good.

Or maybe it was just because Zachariah was in it? I hate that angel to death. I hate that character, his oiliness, his smug smile, his overall smarminess. I hated the first Alastair but I loved the second one so it could just be the actor, I don't know, but the minute he made his appearance, I was like, oh no, not him again.

Do they want us to root for the bad guys? Because Lucifer was AWESOME! And Meg omg! I love Castiel but I barely tolerated Anna and I disliked Uriel. With the exception of Ruby 2, I like all the demons - black-eyed, red, yellow, white, yes, I like the way they were played!

Having said that, I am looking forward to the rest of season 5. I can't wait to see how they're going to develope the character of Lucifer, and the Michael angle, and whether Sam will regain Dean's trust back. I like to think that's a given but with Kripke you'll never know I guess.

But how I wish they'd replace the actor who played Zachariah with someone else!!

I like the character of Meg, but couldn't stand the actress who played her in this episode. I wonder if they'll have her jump around a lot this season?

I was glad to see Dean grow a pair and tell Sam off. He needed to. I'm with you that I think they will reconcile fully at some point, but it will be interesting how this storyline is handled.

Basically, I'm just glad the show is back on! :)

I can't stand Zacariah either, but I think that's the point. I think he's supposed to come off like an oily, smarmy used car salesman. Maybe he'll change meat suits, like Alastair did. Maybe he'll get bored with that particular look, but I suspect that will only happen if the showrunners and powers-that-be dislike him as much as we do.

Lucifer is very intriguing! I don't like new Meg as much as the original, but I totally understand why they had to recast her. I don't dislike her, but I was kinda sorta hoping the really intense Samgirl would turn out to be Meg. Wouldn't that have been amusing? They let her into their room, she puts her hands all over Sam's chest, then they find out she's Meg? I think I'd have liked that a lot better.

I do want Sam and Dean to forgive each other soon, though I know there's a lot to work through. I don't think everything is all Sam's fault or that he's the only one who needs forgiveness. For a long time, Dean has been treating him as a freak, calling him one, not fully trusting him, being afraid of him. No wonder Ruby was able to influence him so much, he thought she was encouraging him to use his powers for some kind of good. Sure, she was manipulating him, but there were quite a few times where Dean was more influenced by Castiel than Sam, so I don't know that the betrayal is all that one-sided. They both screwed up...Dean broke the first seal, Sam the last, but they're both responsible for making bad judgment calls for a lot of last season. I do think they'd better get their act together soon, and start working with each other instead of against each other. If for no other reason than the fans can stop biting their nails and gnashing their teeth every time the boys hurt each other.

I wanted them to be together as well, but when I heard Dean... There's a lot of bad things between them, they have to go through a katharsis of some sort, before they can rely on each other again. If they got beck to being a family immediately after what happened, it wouldn't be healthy. It would be just as skewed as it's always been between, the co-dependence and trying to break free and all that shit. I hope that whatever Kripke puts them through in S-5, that it will make them two independent men who want to hunt together for healthy reasons, not because they (literally) can't live without each other.

Uh, that was deep... ;p

Nope, not at all, though I do understand what you're getting at. I hate GC's Ruby, and I don't think she's a good actress.

My hate for Zacahariah is different from my hate for Alastair 2. Alastair's meaness was very well acted out and even though I say I "like" Alastair, I actually meant I hate him in a good way. Whereas my hate for Zachariah and Ruby 2 is just that - hate as in dislike as to how the characters were played. I actually like the first Ruby, you know!

Do they want us to root for the bad guys?

That's my fundamental problem with it. I refuse to be manipulated into feeling sorry for the devil.

But then, if that was was supposed to be the Lucifer who managed to get Adam out of Eden then what chance have we? ( metaphorically speaking of course ).

Oh but Olga, I want them to be co-dependent, I want them to not be able to live without each other because that's what make them SamandDean and not just any other brothers, say, the Hardy boys for instance. I don't want them to be healthy!

/is pathetic.

It would be interesting to see the various people playing Meg! I just hope that she wouldn't be anyone love's interest this season.

It just occured to me. If Dean agreed to be Michael's vessel, he wouldn't be Dean anymore, would he? The way Jimmy was no longer Jimmy. And I didn't really get that part. Is being Michael's sword the same as being his vessel? Heheh, when he said the drawing of Michael looked like Cate Blanchett, I nearly choked on my drink. Oh Dean, don't ever, ever change.

Why couldn't they use Nicki Aycox to play Meg? Was it because her body was beyond use? Did the girl Meg possessed die after Dean did the exorcism? Oh yes, I guess she died, because she appeared as a ghost in 4.02. What a pity :/

Yeah, well, I understand your sentiment. In fact I share it -- as a viewer. But I can't help it, I'm also seeing it from a storyteller point of view and a storyteller can't tell his viewers "look how great it is to be fucked up". He has to show a process of change and if it's a change for the better, then the story is satisfying. We all identify with how screwed-up the boys are, so them them overcoming that makes us better too, on a subconscious level. Gives us hope.

If a storyteller shows a downward spiral without a road to redemption in the final act, the story leaves the viewers with a hopeless void. There was this show (I told you about it) -- Battlestar Galactica, the new version. It starts with apocalypse. And then it only gets worse. In the final season all the most important characters fell apart completely. It was a great show in its first two seasons but then, there was no light at the end of the tunnel. I think SPN is still capable of giving us hope. :)

And don't worry, the boys probably won't be all good until the very last episode. And then . . . we'll always have fanfiction. ;)

I thought that this episode was awesome! I loved it. I loved that they didn't gloss over what happened between the brothers. I loved Zachariah being the bad guy. I loved that Dean's Michael's vessel.

I thought that it was on par with 4x01 and much, much better than 3x01 - 3x01, at least for me, was the first sign that I would dislike S3 as a whole. It felt disconnected, the story took over where it should have been about the characters - 3x01 was the worst season premiere this show had. I thought that 5x01 was nicely ballanced :)

ETA: And I think it's awesome that Lucifer is portrayed as likable. The whole "Lucifer is mean because the Bible says so" is so one-dimensional. I have no problem with feeling sympathy for him.

Oh I can't think of the religious books' angels and demons and Lucifer and the apocalypse when watching SPN! These are all Kripke's versions so like you, I've no problem with thinking that Lucifer is awesome :)

My problems with those episodes that I didn't like were mainly the executions of them, not the storylines per se. I still love the boys and the show to death, despite its faults ( which are subjective really ) and lo and behold if I came across non-fans crictisizing our show! :))

Yes, she died, and it would probably be more trouble than it's worth for Meg to find where her body is buried, dig it up and reanimate it. Plus there goes the element of surprise! It seems to me like the demons are pretty hard on their "meatsuits" because they don't give a damn if the person lives or dies. They can keep 'em going, and can apparently heal the wounds enough that they don't look like zombies, but I would think it would be like stealing a car. If you really mess it up, it's easier to find another one to hijack than keep trying to fix the one you originally stole.

Second Alistair is a good example of someone you love to hate, or the original Meg, but Zacariah is more of someone you just hate. There's a big difference there!

I'm glad you got what I meant!

I absolutely love 'It's a terrible life' but I couldn't watch the ending, and it's not just the horrible things that Zachariah said to Dean, it was just Zachariah *pukes*

Exactly! I was hoping we'd never see him again. I can't wait for Dean (it would have to be Dean!) to find a way to kill him. Pure speculation on my part, but I don't want the guy hanging around any more.

Or, I'm not THAT picky...God can smite him, or Lucifer, or Sam, doesn't really matter, but the dude has got to go!

I know it's going to take time for Dean to trust Sam again, but I keep thinking about what Dean said in that voice mail....

We are brothers, you know, family and no matter how bad it gets that doesn't change.

... and how Sam never even got to hear that. And how Bobby had told Dean to reach out to Sam, and be a better man then his Daddy ever was.

and how Sam never even got to hear that.

And Dean didn't know that Sam didn't get to hear that ... oh dear, things are so fucked up between them now, but like Dean said, they're brothers and that's never ever going to change, though the dynamics between them have changed somewhat. It had always been Dean who was the one running to keep up with Sam, always afraid that Sam would just up and leave him. I think it's Sam's turn to do the running now.

This may sound slightly ridiculous, but you know, as long as Sam is still "Sammy" to Dean, and Sam lets him call him that, I think things will be alright between them. I dreaded the day when Dean stops calling him "Sammy" or Sam says to Dean "It's Sam".

Kripke doing very best with Dean saying he can't trust Sam. Well, I love Sam, but hearing Dean said that. Sam needed to hear it directly.

Good things is, it's only 5-01. I hope through the season, Sam will prove that his brother can trust him fully.

I wish Castiel kills Zac. I think there's the only way.

And Lucifer. I can't wait to see him meet the boys at last.

I've watched it for a second time and it got better on second viewing. I guess I've got too high of an expectation of the premier, and them suddenly being on that aeroplane was certainly not what I expected!

Btw, did you jump and dance around when Zachariah said Dean was Michael's weapon? I thought about you!!

:DD

Btw, I hope you're feeling better now, dear.

I grabbed my sis when he said that! :D
Anything to do with Michael and Dean in one sentence is good for me. \o/

I have to watch it again. The first two viewing, I didn't use a headphone to listen to the conversations. I have to use one this time, so I can listen better.
