I've been kind of bracing myself for another disappointment but 5.03 is awesome. It's better than the one last week and way, way better than the premier. It had me sitting at the edge of my seat, freaking out, laughing and wanting to cry from start to finish!
And I haven't said/think this about Sam/Jared for a long time but I thought he was amazing in it. That episode reminded me of why Sam was the brother I fell in love first back in season 1.
Getting a glimpse of how it must be like for Dean when he was hunting on his own when Sam was in Stanford, it just made me want to cry. What a lonely life. And sad.
Lovelovelove Castiel. Misha Collins was close to perfect in it *smishes him*
I've never got the Castiel/Dean slash vibe before but I got it full blast this time ( that tie-fixing omg! ). Oh I adore Castiel from the very first, and I love him with Dean but to me, it was more like a big brother/protector/guardian/friend kind of thing. Sam had Ruby, and Dean had, has, his Castiel but yeah, now I do get the Dean/Castiel thing. Sam/Dean is still my OTP though, so I probably won't go looking for the Dean/Castiel fics. Yet.
And the ending? It's creepy as hell, I got goosebumps just thinking about that scene. Though in all probability, I think I'd be disappointed if it were to come down to Michael!Dean v Lucifer!Sam. Is it too much/too cliche to ask for a SamandDean v HeavenandHell?

Date: 2009-09-26 08:01 pm (UTC)Though I can't help thinking that the whole Castiel comedy thingie was his subtle way of comforting Dean, keep his mind off Sam. Or something like that.

Date: 2009-09-26 07:59 pm (UTC)Misha was hilarious! His face during that bordello scene was just too much! I'm not a Dean/Castiel shipper but I liked their interaction. There's trust and genuine caring going on. It's nice.
I can't see how Dean would let Michael in unless it has something to do with saving Sam. During S4, I was always worried that Sam would be Lucifer's vessel, but that mutual shirt grab at the end of 4.22 kinda made it clear that as long as the boys are together, it's not gonna happen. Sure, they're apart now but we all know it's temporary. When they're together, they're a force to be reckoned with so both heaven and hell better watch out! LOL

The deleted scenes sound AWESOME!!! I do hope we'll get to see them in the S5 DVD!
There's trust and genuine caring going on.
Very much so *nods*

Date: 2009-09-26 08:17 pm (UTC)it's about “building Sam and Dean back up in a way that makes them older, sadder, wiser, and, ultimately, stronger. It’s funny, we’ve been feeling in many ways that this is the most optimistic season of Supernatural we’ve ever done. Because even though the exterior circumstances are a massive cluster f–k, internally, the boys aren’t tearing each other apart every episode. It’s more like, ‘Hey, maybe we’ll lose, but, dammit, let’s go down swinging.’”
Knowing this, it's hard to imagine the series ending with a Michael!Dean vs. Lucifer!Sam battle. I'm optimistic too!

Date: 2009-09-26 07:59 pm (UTC)I don't like every development I've seen, or heard of, but many seem pretty awesome. I have faith that Kripke has not left the building. I think it will be a bumpy ride, but will be worth it in the end.
This show is just one of those things that can't possibly satisfy every fan, because people are watching for a lot of different reasons. What will please one person will make another turn away in disgust, but that's just the nature of television. I can't wait till next week!

Date: 2009-09-26 08:17 pm (UTC)Oh how I miss Kim Manners! And Raelle Tucker.

Date: 2009-09-27 01:24 am (UTC)But you're right, between Kim Manners and Raelle Tucker, the show is missing some of its brightest talent. Raelle went on to be a writer/producer for True Blood, and I'm sure the show benefited from it, but I do wish she'd stayed with Supernatural.

Date: 2009-09-26 08:10 pm (UTC)But what I really loved was Jared's performance here. He totally outdid himself. The best of him to date, in my opinion. Do you know that this episode was directed by J. Tobin, the same guy who directed "Heaven and Hell"? I guess he's growing to become one of my favorites directors, for what he's capable of pulling out of those actors. It has to be more than a coincidence.

Btw, I was totally unspoiled for Jess so yeah, that was pretty AWESOME!!

Date: 2009-09-27 10:52 pm (UTC)I was thinking about Sam today--I sure hope he doesn't keep the news about Lucifer's vessel to himself. No more keeping secrets, boys! Sam is so overwhelmed with guilt and sorrow, and he doesn't have anybody to lean on. No Dean, of course by mutual choice, but I also noticed how Ellen totally ignored him in 5.02 as if he wasn't even there. And he's never been as close to Bobby as Dean has been. Maybe that's understandable considering, but when people are so isolated they have a really hard time staying on the right path and avoiding becoming self-destructive and Sam has NOBODY right now, which makes him doubly vulnerable to negative influence. At least Dean has Cas and Bobby and Ellen.
Finally, it is now Dean's turn for a shirtless scene. Note to Kripke.
:-)
