Do you read when you eat? Or vice versa? I do it. Most of the time anyway. I used to do it all the time when I was younger, reached for a book at meal times and my mother would frown and say it wasn't polite to do that when you were in other people's company.

Somehow it enhances the stories that I'm reading, and the food would taste better too. And I associate some food with certain books/stories, like lychees with Enid Blyton's Amelia Jane series, and fish curry with The Lord of the Rings. Some of my most beloved books have lots of unrecognizable stains on them!

I can't eat when I read porn though. Or the darker horror stories, like some of the Stephen King's books. For those I need my full concentration lol.

But most of the time, I love eating while reading. Not good for the keyboard but I have a hand towel ready!

Interesting. Nope I don't eat while reading usually. It started as bedtime stories and then I guess I could read wherever I wanted to. But I didn't want to ruin the books and we weren't allowed/meant to eat at the dinner table either while reading. Though I do sometimes keep reading while going to eat lunch or something. But I don't like getting my books dirty and most of the time I borrow from libraries and don't want to get those dirty for other people that will be reading them.

I love your food associations! LOTR and fish curry. Hobbits would approve. I don't eat when reading that I can think of, with the exception of when I reread Chocolate. I get myself a great big beautiful box of Belgian Chocolates and read and nibble till book and chocolates are done. I'm problaby due that again. :D

I used to read while eating ALL THE TIME. And yes, my parents would always frown at me for doing so. But as a kid I didn't enjoy eating, so reading a book while eating ensured that I'd actually finish my meals LOL!

Then when fanfic came about, I'd have no problem bringing my plate of food into the bedroom and eat in front of the PC. Of course, only when I'm home alone. *g*

I don't associate food with books (or vice versa) but I do associate fried chicken necks with my little bro and SPN! There was this one time where my bro and I were watching an episode of SPN on the computer, and it was about 2 am or so, and I was feeling hungry. So I dug up some fried chicken necks from the fridge and after heating those up, proceeded to eat them in front of the computer. Even though my brother did not eat chicken necks, even he was salivating at the sight of them! LOL

Heh - I love your food/literary associations. :)

I don't ever read when I'm eating - it's just something I've never done. I do occasionally watch TV while I'm eating, however, but can't say I associate any particular food with any particular programme.

Thank you for my snowflake gift! We haven't had any real snow yet this winter, so that was my first flurry.

*warm, festive hugs*

No. Don't think I can eat a real meal and read at the same time. I do however eat snacks/candy while reading.

I've brought books with me in the bathtub on a few occasions. Er, that wasn't such a good idea it seems. I dropped the whole book in the water one time. *lol*

I was so obsessed with reading when I ate, as a child, that if I didn't have a book, I'd pull over a cereal box or something else that had a label. :)

I usually watch TV when I eat, now.

I have to read when I eat (when I'm alone). In fact, I was distressed that I had forgotten to bring a book to school yesterday so that I didn't have anything to read while I was eating my lunch! :)

I've always done that, and still do, though I don't associate any certain foods with certain books.

It would be easier to say when I don't eat while reading - when I'm with someone who doesn't. I quess I'm too polite to ignore them. :D

Otherwise, I always read when I'm stuffing my face, and vice versa. I find it helps my digestion, because if I don't, I bolt my food and feel queasy afterward. :D

I typed up this comment last night, and then my internet connection at home majorly failed, so I couldn't post. ::wail::

Anyway, what I was trying to say is I think you described me to a tee here! I'm like a Pavlovian dog, most of the time when I read, I reach for food/snack. It's so not conducive for my diet. O_o

On the other hand, I'm not sure I crave for food because it enhances reading experience for me though. I think I'm just a glutton. Reading and eating are pleasures in life for me. \o/

I don't if I'm eating with my family but with my husband working nights and the middle child working most nights it's just me and the little one grab something seperate as she always wants maccaroni and cheese and eat in our rooms. I read but like you I don't read the porn, I'd probably choke myself. :)

LOL you're probably going to freak out if you were to see my books. Oh I love them and it drives me nuts if people were to leave them open face downwards, but other than that, my books are mostly dog-eared and well-thumbed :D

It's like when you have to queue up or something, the time goes so fast when you're absorbed in a good book, right?

Hee hee, reading on the computer while eating sure does take some dexterity, doesn't it? Scrolling down and everything :D

I usually ate my lunch at the office, devouring two or three fanfics at the same time.

Chicken necks? Really? I always ask the chicken people at the market to cut that off whenever I bought my chicken whole :D

Oh I know it's not considered good ethic to read while you eat when you're in the company of others heheh so nowadays I only do it when I'm alone. Though you know, it's so hard getting my kids to read that I probably won't mind if they did that, read at the dinner table I mean. Not going to happen any time soon though *sighs*

Hee hee, now that's something I've never done before, reading while in the bathtub. I've heard that it's a relaxing thing to do.

And also, you know some people like to read while they're err, doing their business on the throne? Eeeps. I could never do that :)

I'd pull over a cereal box or something else that had a label.

Yes! Yes! Yes! Me too!! Or that bottle of tomato sauce, I'd read its ingredients, where it's made lol.

Funnily enough, I don't usually eat while watching TV, If my favourite show is on, I usually make sure that dinner is early that night!

I'm glad that I'm not the only one! My mum used to nag and nag at me if I were to read during my mealtimes so I didn't really do it in the company of others but when I'm alone, heheh, now with fanfics, I'd open a few windows on the computer before I got whatever it was I'm eating ready :)

I'd eat slowly and chew properly when I'm eating while reading, got to make the food last till the end of the story lol, fanfics read on the computer that is. There's just this feeling of something not right if I were to eat without having a book or any written thing on my other hand, or the computer in front of me.

A-ha! Then you have to make sure that you have healthy stuff at hand - I find that a bunch of grapes ( or any fruit ) make excellent eating companion. Though more often than not I'd be reaching for that bar of chocolate, or that pack of peanuts *facepalm*

And I drew stares from people when I bring my book to read while having my lunch lol.

The food would usually go uneaten, or feel tasteless, when I have a really good porn in front of me. I usually read the gens when I'm reading, or the lower ratings slash. Schmoop works, but I simply can't eat if there's some serious sex going on. Hmmm, I guess maybe that's why food porn doesn't do anything for me :)

Yeah, that's the downside of it. Sometimes you don't really realize you're munching away, piling on the calories, when you're engrossed in a good story. Place the fruit bowl near the books!!

I have to say I've never read when I eat unless I'm alone in a public place---a restaurant, for example, and I read there because I feel self-conscious otherwise.

I do watch TV when I eat, though, nearly always. I can't even remember the last meal I ate that wasn't in front of the TV set.

Fish curry and LOTR---hee hee!

Aah, the book as a shield! Now it's somewhat the opposite here. People, strangers and friends alike, will come and approach you if they were to see you with a book at a restaurant - What are you reading? Interesting book? - etc, etc. Seeing people with books in public places, in a small town, is a rarity here. Magazines and newspapers, yes, but not books!
