Dear Anon ( 173.18.209.224 ),

There is so much more to life than letting some fictional characters, or people liking what you don't like, ruin your day. Isn't fandom large enough for us to be where we want to be, to think what we want to think, to love what or who we want to love?

Well said, my dear!

You know when I first got into this fandom, I was impressed there wasn't a whole lot of ship wars here like I've seen at other places. Unfortunately things are changing and getting a little out of hand lately.

Personally, I'm a firm "Dean/Sam=OTP" person, but that doesn't mean I get mad at those who writes Dean/Castiel, nor would I take issues with those who writes Sam/Ruby, Sam/Jess, etc. In fact I know some of them are mighty good writers, and have seen their works recced by numerous discerning readers.

I wish those who toot their favorite character would raise valid arguments instead of spewing nonsensical tirades. In my experience, fans' bad behaviors reflect poorly not only on the actor they worship, but also the character s/he plays.

Finally I have to say when someone leaves a nasty comment as an anon at a someone else's journal, that is very much a cowardly act, and suggests a certain degree of shame at what s/he is saying.

I think because there're not that many pairs to ship, the feeling / obsession is more intense. I mean, in the LOTR fandom, there were dozens of OTPs - Orlijah, Domlijah, VigLij, OrliBean - oh a lot more! In this fandom, there's only Sam/Dean for a long, long time ( with some minor pairings ), so I guess when a new major pairing comes along, there's a sense of ... loss and dejection. I mean, I didn't like the Sam/Ruby pairing of season 3 but I didn't click on it, and neither do I click on any of the other minor pairings be it RPS or FPS.

And a resounding YES to your last two points.
