Friday night at the movies.

I absolutely adore The Tourist! As is my wont, I went to see without knowing much about it other than it starred Angeline Jolie and Johnny Depp, and I had this vague idea that it might be a spy thriller but that could be because I still had Salt in my mind. So it was such a sweet, sweet surprise to see Paul Bettany in it. He was so adorable!

Love the movie. I love Jolie, I love Depp and I love the whole cloak-and-dagger stuff. I was initially slightly taken aback to see Depp, I didn't quite expect to see him looking quite like that, I almost didn't recognize him! And you know how Jolie's mere presence would shadow the other characters, that woman is so ... dominating and with Depp looking so washed out, you'd expect him to just disappear under Jolie's strong everything. But he didn't.

Johnny Depp is one of the few A-list actors that doesn't scream Johnny Depp with whatever characters he played on screen. You know, the way, say, Tom Cruise said Tom Cruise! or de Caprio said de Caprio! ( to me I mean, my apologies to fans of both actors ).

And the movie kept me guessing right to the very end. I had guessed almost from the beginning that Frank was Alexander Pierce but I wasn't sure. It was was he? or was he not? and I'm still not quite sure whether Elise really knew that he was actually the elusive Pierce. I'm thinking that Elise knew Pierce got his face and identity changed but she didn't know how the new Pierce was going to look like.

When Frank was about to punch in the security code, I was crowing to hubby that I was right ( hubby, for some odd reasons, thought that Pierce was either Bettany or Dalton ) and then the bad guys were shot down and I was back to was he? or was he not? lol.

A very enjoyable movie with all round great acting, and I love the European setting. Very romantic!

She started to grow on me in The Bone Collector. I think she has character, that Jolie, and I love what she's doing with the UN and the kids. And hey, she has Brad Pitt!! But I get it why some people might think she's a bit OTT heheh.

Hehehe, for me Depp is the actor who screams Depp in every role (but in a good way). i know he's good but all his characters leave me cold. The same with Jolie. But you mentioned Bettany :) That could be a reason to watch.

I was very happy when I saw Bettany! I felt like reaching up to the screen and holding him close, I was so happy to see him. And I love his character in that movie - dorky and loveable!

So was it a spy movie? I really hate spy movies, that's why I asked. I found Salt tiresome and I guess I like my characters vulnerable (not super spies with lots and lots of tricks up their sleeves, lol).

It's not exactly a spy movie, and certainly not in the same vein as Salt. I'd probably call it a romantic drama with a dash of the thriller.

Jolie is Jolie but I think you'd like Depp's character in it. He's a dweeb ( heheh ), a mathematics teacher from Wisconsin doing the tourisy thing in Italy, and yep, vulnerable!

I wish I could go out and see new releases like you do. This is a movie that I really want to see but since I only get out once in a while, it might have to wait until it's released on dvd. Gosh, but I love Johnny Depp!

I was going to try to talk the hubby into seeing The Fighter today since the kids are going out with their friends. Have you seen that one?

I think Depp was really awesome in it! His character was fairly low-key ( a nerdy teacher to Jolie's usual femme fatale, I half-thought that her character would eat his alive lol ) but he held his own against Jolie, and more!

No, I haven't seen The Fighter. I don't think it has arrived at our shores yet. Or maybe they're just not showing it at my place. I googled that one up and it sounds intriguing!

Angelina is a good actress and I like her in her roles, but to me, Johnny Depp is the one who dominates the screen in any scene he's in.

Depp was really excellent in The Tourist. I truly almost didn't recognize him, he looked so different than he usually did! I think you'd like the movie, Julia. It has drama, it has comedy, it has action and it has romance! And oh, it's romantic Italy!

Hon, you enjoyed this movie? I love Angelina Jolie too, and think she's very captivating on the big screen (I have a secret fantasy of wanting to see Jensen costar with her). But all the critic review here in the US totally trashed it, so I was afraid to see it.

I have a feeling that Jolie would eat Jensen alive, literally! But in good, HOT way of course nom nom nom.

I didn't read the reviews until after, so I didn't know that it was supposed to be a "bad" movie. I enjoyed it, very much! But then, I really like Jolie, and Depp, and Bettany, and I liked the storyline. Do go see it!!
