My favorite (at the moment at least) is James. Paul's voice bugs me, and he's just too quirky for my tastes. A lot of it, for me, is not just the singing, though that's a big part of it. If I don't like someone's personality or attitude, it makes it hard for me to want to see them win. I think Stefano did well on a couple of songs, but I really am beginning to think he's still there because some women think he's cute and don't care if he can sing or not.
I don't think the women have been all that talented this year, but part of it is that there aren't that many female singers I like. I like Haley a lot more than I like Lauren, but neither of them do a lot for me. At least Haley makes some interesting song choices and does pretty well with them.
I just realized, after watching Smallville tonight, why This irritated me so much. It occurred to me tonight it's because she looks too much like Lana Lang, who I never liked.
Scotty and Casey. Yeah, I know, you're not into Casey :)
Paul and Haley, while I'm not a fan, I do get it while some people find them interesting. As Steve Tyler said it, Paul is perfectly imperfect, and I guess there're people who dig that Rod Steward thing going for him, and Haley is interesting too. But Stefano? He's just Bland!
At first I thought people were being a little ridiculous about "cute boys" being saved by fans, but I really think that's the case with Stefano. Although...he was in the bottom three, so he's still not getting *that* many votes. Stefano needs to stick with songs he knows, not something he's never heard before and has no connection with, it's obvious he doesn't believe what he's singing. OTOH, I think they have a real limited number of songs to choose from, probably because of licensing fees or something.
There have been times I liked Casey, but his voice just doesn't do it for me. I really wanted to like his version of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" but it just seemed like the wrong kind of song for him. Haley has grown on me, I've really liked some of her performances, but Lauren still bugs. My feelings on Scotty are mixed. I really wish he'd sing something that wasn't country, or wasn't countrified, because I think he's capable of more than one style. I think he'll get a record deal for sure and be very popular as a country artist, but when they said he was going to sing Elvis, I was hoping for one of Elvis's other songs. I wanted to see Scotty rock out.
Let's see what they do with "Music from the Movies" night. I do wish Lauren and Haley would tone down the sexuality of their outfits and song choices. It just comes across really wrong to me.
BTW, Stefano looked so shocked, I'm sure he was expecting it to be him. While I'd like to see James win, I'm fully expecting it to be Scotty.
Scotty's voice slayed me but yeah, I can just imagine what Simon Cowell would have said about him. You know how he's not a fan a country songs lol.
I kind of pitied Stefano, what with the judges and audience's reaction. I want him to go of course, but that was certainly a bad place for him to be in, having to hear what the judges had to say about it being so wrong, Pia being eliminated.
Yeah, I think it was kind of obvious she was one of the judges' favorites. I'm sure he realized they wouldn't be reacting that way about him. But he's got to realize that he's not really giving it his all, right? I mean, they should all be doing their absolute best they can every time, be "in it to win it" as Randy would say, and it seems like several of them are just choosing the wrong song or type or song. I'm not sure how much the producers are actually helping them, but I think they're trying. It seems a bit arrogant of these contestants to say, "Thanks, Mr. Professional, but I think I'll do things my own way instead." Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't, but I wonder if they realize just how unique this opportunity really is for a young singer.
I miss Simon Cowell! He said it as it was, he didn't mince his words. The current judges are so nice and I think sometimes it's good to be harsh, you know, to sort of "guide" the viewers' choices.
I don't think being nice all the time is that helpful. They need constructive criticism. If they keep hearing how wonderful and beautiful and perfect they are, they're not likely to make any changes or try to improve. What's wrong with saying, "You hit every single note on key, but it didn't seem like you really had a connection with the song, or the audience," or "I could actually feel how passionate you were about that song, but you missed a lot of notes, and sometimes you were so quiet we could barely hear you. Work on that a little bit."
I think Simon went too far sometimes, and no one wants to hear, "Give it up, you shouldn't even try to be a singer. Go back to your job washing dishes." OTOH, at least he usually told people specifically what was wrong.

Who are your other top 2 choices?
