Just saw the TV adaptation from the book by Agatha Christie. It was awesome.

I think I've read all of Agatha Christie's books but I don't remember Five Little Pigs at all. It's either I really have missed that one, or the adaptation differed greatly from the book, because I absolutely love the show and I'd have surely remembered the book if the TV show was faithful to it. I'm thinking it's the former because quite a number of the made-to-TV Agatha Christies were wildly different from the books.

I LOVE Caroline and I'm so glad that she was innocent. I actually like everybody in it with the exception of Elsa and it felt so good to find out that she was the one who did it. And Philip being in love with Amyas! I didn't see that one coming at all and if there was one thing I would have remembered from the book it would have been that lol. Angela was well played by both the actresses who played the young and adult versions. Not that happy with the actress who played adult Lucy though.

*sighs* If there's one thing that'd make me happy in a love story is that the husband being in love with the wife and the third person getting what she deserves. And that bit on "sending her packing" was brilliant deduction by Poirot.

And I finally got to see Aidan Gillen! He reminded me a bit of Edward Norton and I've seen one or two persons on my flist squeeing about him and I believe he's also in Game of Thrones so that could be the push I need to just go watch GoT NOW. Other than Sean Bean being in it of course. And every other person on my flist giving two thumbs up for it!

Anyway, back to Five Little Pigs. HIGHLY recommended, the TV episode I mean. Fantastic acting all around. Riveting and thrilling story. I've got to go read ( or reread as the case may be ) the book to see whether it's as good as the TV adaptation or not.

Yep, Aidan Gillen is in Game of Thrones, so yes, more motivation to watch!

I have a feeling once you watch the series, you'll have a lot of reading material to catch up on while waiting for the next season! There are four books so far, and the fifth is coming out in about two weeks. Of course, since book four came out 6 years ago, who knows how long we'll have to wait for the last two books, but it's a fascinating world to explore.

ETA: I thought I'd read all the Agatha Christie books, too, but some of the movie descriptions aren't ringing a bell for me. OTOH, I read them around 30-35 years ago, so it's possible I've forgotten a lot of stuff. I haven't been watching the movies, but one of these days I might get caught up.

That's a great adaptation of one of my favourite Agatha books. (I think the last time I responded to you on something it was re Agatha Christie!! - haha, I'm such a fan of her though). I've always loved the retrospective cases and Five Little Pigs is really quite chilling and moving with this woman who sacrificed her life to protect her sister, and the other woman who lived with the guilt for so long and actually watched her lover die while he painted her. It always sends chills down my spine when I think of it.

Philip being in love with Amyas was definitely not in the book - so don't worry about having a dodgy memory there!! In the book he was secretly in love with Caroline, I think that was either ITV/BBC (can't remember who made that) taking a bit of creative license ;D

Speaking of Aiden Gillen, he's popped up in so much stuff... I know him way back from the UK version of Queer As Folk which made him famous & kinda notorious over here!! And then he was also in The Wire for at least three series as the morally ambiguous mayor which he was great in, and now Game of Thrones of course. The guy's got some seriously good back catalogue.

I *adore* Rachael Stirling, she was so good in that. As was Aiden - very different from his time in Queer As Folk!

I LOVE murder stories and I don't think we get enough of them here!

I love the flashback scenes. At first I thought the file that I downloaded was bad or something, it was only later that I realized it was purposely shot that way. Brilliant.

I really thought it was Angela who did it but then her keeping quiet about it didn't seem right, even with the letter her sister wrote her. Ugh, I hated Elsa with all my heart though at the end there, despite myself, I did feel a twinge of pity for her.

Aiden Gillen! I've wondered about him for quite some time, having seen a couple of people on my flist talking about him ( though not enough to google him up ). Now I know why!!

There is more than one book? Do you recommend reading the books or watching the TV show first? I'll probably watch it first since I've already got the whole of season 1 downloaded but if you think I should read the books first?

If you want to start watching AC's movies/TV shows, then I definitely recommend Five Little Pigs!

Yes!! The last time we talked was re Agatha Christie \o/

I think with Amyas dead, Caroline probably didn't want to go on, and she probably saw herself taking the blame to protect her sister as atonement for what she accidentally did to Angela.

I'm actually glad that I didn't remember the book because not knowing who did it added an extra ooomph to the TV show!

And yes, I thought Philip was secretly in love with Caroline, ( I don't think there were any gay people in AC's books, unlike PD James' ), but yeah, I adore that bit of creative licence!!

I'm slightly in love with Aiden Gillen now lol.

I am so going to buy the book now! 5 Little Pigs I mean.

I googled the actress up and I saw that she had been in quite a number of TV shows. I thought she looked somewhat familiar.

I hated Elsa with all my heart but I pitied her at the end there. Not enough to like her the way I like Anne Boleyn after hating her earlier in the season, but it must have been awful to live with that secret for so long, and finding out that Amyas didn't really love her.

Now you've made me want to look up QAF!

Btw, darling, HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!!! You should be getting my card very soon ♥

There's a whole series. "A Game of Thrones" is the first in the series, which as a whole is called "A Song of Ice and Fire" I'm guessing they're going to call next season "A Game of Thrones II" rather than "A Clash of Kings". I would recommend watching the series first, then read the books in order. There's a lot of stuff that's not covered in the series, obviously, since the book is like 700 pages long. Someone pointed out the first season, 10 hours, is approximately the length of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and that just covers the first book, so it's epic in its epicness. :) There's mysteries, love stories, conspiracies, wars, murders/executions/wholesale slaughter, mystical happenings and some of the usual fantasy tropes of the hero's journey. But which characters are the heroes? There's definitely more than one. It's a harsh world, but fascinating to explore.

For the TV series, the actors are excellent, the writing is usually pretty strong, though it's a bit slow in the first couple of episodes. Stick with it, 'cause it'll pick up steam and leave you with a humongous cliffhanger. Let me put it this way, if you watch the series and have no desire to know what happens next, then the books probably won't change your mind, but I don't think that's going to happen. It's not meant for the eyes nor ears of little ones, so keep that in mind if the kids are around!

Why are you still reading this instead of watching the first episode? :)

Sounds DELICIOUS!!

Btw, have you seen Downtown Abbey? I watched the first episode last night and wow I'm HOOKED! I know, I should have watched GoT but I've got that episode since forever and I've only got that one episode downloaded so I thought I'd just watch it first before starting on GoT and now I'm lamenting the fact that I don't have the rest of it as I no longer can download them *weeps*

I haven't seen Downton Abbey, but I've heard good things about it. I'm pretty sure it's out on DVD now.

YOU HAVEN@T SEEN QaF!?!?!??!?!

Oh my gosh, go, woman, go NOW! Find the UK one (not the American version - it's good but nowhere as good as ours.) Aiden, young Charlie Hunnam... it's all good.

No one can call themselves a real slash fanatic if they haven't seen UK QaF! I adore it.

You've seen one episode? Oh do try and get the rest - series 1 only, 2 isn't so good.

Yes, I did see it. Isn't it just lovely, lovely, lovely.
