Downton Abbey Xmas Special.
Dec. 30th, 2011 05:17 pmI'm so glad that they didn't wait for season 3 or 10 to get Mary and Matthew back together. I swear, any longer and I would have switched allegiance to Sir Carlyle. As it is, I'm *that* close to shipping Mary/Carlyle, almost, but not quite, because Mary and Matthew together still gives me the shivers and the goosebumps and the squeeeees.
Quite sad to see Sir Carlyle go though. But hey, he can now devote himself fully to his Khaleesi!
I feared for Mr Bates and Isis ( oh Thomas, you ) but I just knew that the they'd be okay, it was a Christmas episode after all.
I was disappointed that Sybil wasn't around. While I'm not much a fan of Branson, I do like Sybil and right till the end, I kept hoping that she'd make an appearance. One thing about the servants' ball though, I didn't quite like it when Lord Grantham and Matthew made it seem like it was a chore to dance with the servants. I'm especially surprised that Matthew felt that way though to be fair, the servants didn't seem to enjoy the dancing much either.
A very enjoyable episode, it gave me much hope for season 3 and I do hope that we'll get a wedding episode *wishes very hard*
Side note: Apparently the actor who played the judge was Benedict Cumberbatch's father. Heheh, now if that gave me cause for squee, I really don't know how I'd react if they were to announce that Benny himself were to make an appearance.

Date: 2011-12-30 03:22 pm (UTC)I LOVED the Christmas special so much. I have to admit, I was a little shocked by Matthew's initial reaction to the death of Pamuk then remembered, duh, it's 1920 . . . LOL. I was like, she slept with someone about 7 years prior to your conversation. Big whoop. Then I recalled that 7 year mark was about 1913 and regained my composure lol!

Date: 2011-12-31 03:55 am (UTC)Lol yeah, plenty of things there that you wouldn't even blink an eye to nowadays but caused *that* kind of reaction back then.
Matthew proposing to Mary was so romantic! Oh I was so glad that Matthew was finally able to bury the ghost of Lavinia. And that the Earl gave Thomas a chance ( I hope he wouldn't screw it! ). And that WEDDING I want to see it so baaaaaad!

Date: 2011-12-30 06:45 pm (UTC)I missed Sybil too though, it's a shame she wasn't in it, especially with it being Christmas.
And I'm so pleased about Matthew and Mary. My initial reaction was AT LAST lol. It was a lovely ending though, and made me feel all happy at Christmas! ;)
