I got a sweet, sweet surprise in the mail yesterday. It was Benedict Cumberbatch's To The End Of The Earth DVD, from Amazon, and I have no idea who it's from. Okay, I think I know who the kind and generous person is, but I'm thinking it'd be a bit awkward to thank that person and it turns out that I'm wrong. So can the lovely, wonderful person fess up pretty, pretty please so I can thank you properly and snog you senseless because it's BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH OMG. I've watched a few minutes of the DVD and Benedict looked mighty fine in it :)) *dances*

I can just imagine four-year-old Dean playing with his tricycle nearby, or maybe it was Dean who took that photo, tongue sticking out in concentration, holding the camera in his chubby little hands, and John and Mary were brimming with happiness because Mary just found out that she was pregnant again *sniffles*

Can we have another flashback episode with JDM and Samantha Smith please????

Yes, please! I don't even care that they'd be in their 40's/50's, playing 20-something John 'n Mary, I just want to see them again, all happy and smily and...come to think of it that would probably make me cry, but I don't care about that either.

Your icon though? That's even worse than the John/Mary/Impala pic.

No, not 20-something, I want JDM!John and Samantha!Mary. Not that I have anything against Matt and Amy, in fact I think they did exceptionally well playing young Mom and Dad, but I want the Mary and John that we first knew in pilot so baaaaad.

Me, too! So bad! But JDM is Mr. BigTimeHollywoodStar now and CW could never afford him. Thank goodness for fanfic! Kind of ironic that JDM's latest series on Starz, Magic City, he plays the father of two boys, the oldest a "bad boy" in the family business trying to get every pretty girl in bed, and the youngest being a more soulful, emotional type. :-)

Someone mentioned about Magic City and I wanted to watch it, because of JDM, but now that I know what his character is like ... IDK ... it probably is going to be painful for me, because that's basically John sans the supernatural stuff, and he has two sons who're not Sam and Dean, eeeeek.

Hmmmm, maybe they did ask JDM to come back for an episode, and like you said, he has become too expensive, so they wrote what they did about John. Oh well.

Don't worry. JDM's character in MC is absolutely nothing like John Winchester. Couldn't be further apart for me. :-) And despite the sons having that one similarity, they are SO not Sam n' Dean.

JDM has said more than once that he'd love to come back, but he hasn't been asked. Dunno WTF is with whoever is making that dumb decision. Ask him, and if he says no, he's too busy, then work out a time when he can take a couple/few days to film, and PLAN AHEAD. If they don't ask, they're never going to get him. My suspicion would be that money wouldn't necessarily be as much a problem as TPTB might be thinking.

Did they have anything against JDM or something? The way they ( borderline ) character-assasinated John and all. First we found out that John had an affair and another son whom he took to baseball games, then we were told that he and Mary fought, then we had Bobby practically tearing him to shreds, it's like the writers didn't remember how he made a deal to save Dean's life, how in love young John was with Mary, how he wanted to avenge Mary, the many ways that showed how much he loved his sons, ugh.

/end of rant.

I never heard of any problems with JDM, but who knows? Maybe there's a lingering resentment that his career really took off about the time they let him go, so they've had to find creative ways to reference him without actually bringing him back. It seems like at the end, though, they were trying to get back to the things John sacrificed for his sons, and letting Sam see the man he used to be before Mary died.
