I managed to persuade my husband to read [livejournal.com profile] oselle‘s beautiful write-up on why she loves Elijah Wood. He’s always saying that he can’t understand why I have such a crush on him instead of, say, Tom Cruise. I didn’t have the words to explain it to him so her essay is just perfect. He read it, all 5 pages of them ( yup I printed them ). He said it ‘s very well-written but unfortunately he ended up being even more mystified why anyone could love a celebrity as much as that. He kind of looked at me in…wonder(?) after that , maybe thinking that his wife needs to see a therapist. Or maybe he was just wondering when is the next Arsenal match going to be. And speaking of football, I am mystified why anyone could stay up until 3 am to watch some football final on the telly, waking up all bleary-eyed for work the next day. It’s been one final after another for the past one month, so much so that I’m seriously thinking of buying another TV. But I digress.

Yesterday I went to the mall to buy The Stone Roses cd. I was really looking forward to listening to the songs in their first album, the one that [livejournal.com profile] oselle said that Elijah listened to so often in his trailer during the filming of LOTR. Alas not only they did not have it, they didn’t even know the group! One sales assistant even politely asked me whether it’s actually The Rolling Stones that I wanted. Guh. Guess I’ll have to go to more music stores which are not exactly my favourite place to be in. Unlike bookstores speaking of which, I bought a book by Ken Follett yesterday not realizing that I’ve already bought the same book months ago which is yet still unread. That’s fanfics and lj for me!

Oh yes, I know that. Mine looks at me as if I'm mental and then goes all starry eyed about fishing.

Fishing???

I printed it as well, and I'm very glad I did because I think it's a wonderfully well thought out essay, and it hits very close to home on a lot of subjects - on the whole 'legend' thing and how it feels to be part of it, and how it will feel to look back in ten years and realise that we all belonged to something very special.

To be honest, I don't expect other people to understand just how much I love Elijah or indeed why. Yes, he's beautiful (but not everybody thinks that) but it's so much more - it's the whole light he carries with him, the way he is, his attitude to work and life - the lot. He's a rounded person and that's what appeals to me so much. It's the old soul in the young body; it's intriguing and magnetic and everything else.

Fishing???

Now that's a topic and a half. I've never in my whole life caught anything yet. He loves fishing. He can do it for hours. I tolerate it. With a good book in my hand. Or New Rules. Never notice the time passing then ;)

Very well put. Maybe it has something to do with him working from such a young age though I'm not sure that working is the correct word here. Working implies hardship to a certain extent and I think he enjoyed his time as a child actor. IMO almost all the child actors that continue on to be adult actors have this quality, the old soul in the young body - Drew Barrymore is one.

BTW do you still have the essay in your word.doc or something and if so can you e-mail it to me? I've deleted mine.

Thanks! I've had a lot of compliments for it.

It's from the picture that [livejournal.com profile] hi_jet made for my Sleepover Series - she put it up on her journal yesterday. There's a short-cut to it from my journal. It's a lovely picture, and Elijah's in his Pikachu pyjamas! [livejournal.com profile] slashysunshine made the icon for me.

Yes, definitely get The Stone Roses. Their song, 'I wanna be adored' is on the 'Hooligans' soundtrack. (I know it's to be called 'Green Street', but I just can't get used to that - too bland)

;)

I don't have it on my hard drive, but I can easily scan it in and send it to you. Let me finish doing this boring work and then I'll knuckle down and catch up on everything, and that includes sending you the essay.

Mine never catches anything but that's always either the fishes fault or his equipment. It would be so much cheaper to just buy some fish!

If you havent read it yet oselle's essay on elijah wood is here (http://www.livejournal.com/users/oselle/230092.html?#cutid1). You have to scroll down a bit for it because the first part deals on why she took it down in the first place.
