Got my Limited Edition LOTR which was a pleasant surprise because I didn't expect to receive them for another week at least. Managed to sneak them onto the DVD shelves without the husband noticing. Not that I don't want him to know about them of course but I've already got 3 sets of the LOTR movies - the VCDs, the DVDs, the Extended Edition DVDs - I swear that his lips thinned out a little bit more each time I came back with a new set. I hope that he won't notice that these are new but if he asks I'll just give the standard answer of "But I bought these a long time ago!"

I remember an article written by a local Tolkien fan - apparently she has 2 sets of the LOTR books. One set, still in pristine condition, is for display on her bookshelves while the other set is for everyday read, well-thumbed and dog-eared, she brings those with her everywhere she goes. I wonder very much if she has eight sets of the vcds and dvds ...

Yay for another set!

You know what. My sis has two sets of the three LOTR EE, thanks to the post office's mistake. Heheh. I don't know if she's going to buy this one, though. Or perhaps it's my turn now.

That extra set would come in useful for say, a birthday gift for somebody. Or did your sister return the extra set?

Noo, she didn't return it. :D

A birthday gift for somebody ... else??? No way! That's mine. Mine. My precioussss.

Yay, that's very good news, hon!

I'll wait until it is released here in Italy and then decide if buy it or not.

Let me know if in your opinion it is worthy, please, as soon as you can watch it!

Hugs you

I'd love to get a really beautiful, hardbound set of LOTR and just admire it. I keep "wearing out" all the paperbacks I buy and read.

Oh, you already got them! I hope you will find them worthy. I have now heard both good and bad. :/

Hehehe, I hope your husband will not notice.

Hmm, I have the three volume Alan Lee illustrated LotR that I had the actors at ORC 2005 sign, and it sits in its slip case untouched. Then I have a one volume paperback that goes everywhere with me and looks like it, too :) My coworkers are constantly kidding me about it. I have all three DVD sets, but not the VHS. So I guess my collection is not quite complete :))

I've watched a little bit of the FotR and so far everything's good! Elijah looks soooo beautiful and young and innocent :)

For a really good, comfy read, I prefer the paperbacks. I can sit/lie down any which way with them and not really worry whether I leave curry stains on the pages. But of course, the hardcovers look much better on the bookshelves, esp if they are LOTR!

He probably won't, and I've already thrown away the plastic wrappings. I hope they're worthy too. Heh heh, I'm overbudget this month because of them :/

I have the one-volume paperback as well as the three-volume ones but no hardcover ones. And certainly no three-volume Alan Lee illustrated signed LOTR!

*envies*

Did Elijah sign that one?

Yes, he did. I brought 'The Two Towers' with me to ORC and had him and Sean sign the illustration of the scene where Frodo holds Sting to Gollum's throat. I'm hoping maybe someday I can get Andy Serkis to sign it, too, and have all three of them. I had Billy and John Rhys-Davies sign Pippin and Treebeard illustrations. (Dom was there, too, but I was pissed off at Creation for charging extra for his autograph so I didn't get it!)

Am so glad I'm not alone! Have the videos, the theatrical and extended DVDs, but will still buy these new ones for the extras. Might wait until the price goes down though.

I'll just give the standard answer of "But I bought these a long time ago!"

I've totally been known to do this! :-)

I wanted to wait but they said 'Limited Edition'. Heh, I would be banging my head if they're still available next month, and with cheaper prices too!

I've 2 LoTR books, one for display and one to highlight my fav quotes and read all the time. Yet I do NOT have 2 copies of the DVDS :P I've the Theatrical and EEs and the fan-dvd and the soundtracks, music cd-wise, along with one with Chris Lee and other ppl reading some Tolkien-ish poetry.

What's the fan-dvd?

And I think that's a good idea, to highlight fav quotes. That way I wouldn't have a headache trying to look for them among all those hundreds of pages!
