I've heard people who've watched the preview saying that the premier is set to look really good. I can't wait!!

I'll be back on LJ proper tomorrow. Still on fly-by post today, or rather, crawl-by *glares at dial-up*

4. 'Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things'.

This scene starts with Dean driving, silent, none of his usual classic rock playing in the background. Sam's glancing at him on and off. Dean pulls over by the roadside, a very scenic place with a deep ravine to on one side and pine trees on the other.

Dean sits on the hood, Sam follows him, looking concerned.

They talk. Or rather, Dean talks.
Dean : "I'm sorry."
Sam : "For what?"
Dean : "The way I've been acting." ( That trembling lower lip again omg )

Dean says it was his fault that John's gone. He made a full recovery, and John died, the Colt was gone and Dad's dead because of me.

Dean: "You and Dad, you're the most important people in my life. I never should have come back. I was dead and I should have stayed dead. You wanted to know how I was feeling ... What could you possibly say to make that all right?"

Sam has no answer to that. The camera pans up showing them standing side by side, leaning against the front of the Impala.

So many things that I love about this scene. So many. Dean finally opening up to Sam on what he has kept bottled up all this while since John died. Things that Sam has been pestering him to talk about, telling Dean that he's spinning out of control with all the things that Dean kept inside. Dean saying that John would have been alive if not for him, that he's not worth whatever deal John made with the demon. Dean basically saying that he's nothing. And that there's nothing Sam could say about that.

I like it that Sam remained silent after that. It would have spoiled the sombre mood if he started talking then, and I'm quite sure Sam actually had plenty to say. But it wasn't the right time. Dean had talked, and that's good enough. Because getting Dean to talk, really talk is not easy. Especially when it comes to his feelings.

I love hearing what happened after that take. Jensen just took off, alone, apparently unable to shake off the Dean-angst.And Jared followed him. He later said in interviews that he sat with Jensen, telling him that Jensen did good. Knowing Jared I bet he had said a lot more, but that's between him and Jensen. We can only imagine what was really said then.

And if you hadn't read [livejournal.com profile] eight_horizon's The Crying Game, do so now! J2 rps on how Jared and Jensen deal with the shooting of this scene, among others.

Yes, but you can't make everything all right with one approving word. The damage was done when John let Dean grow up to believe that his worth depended on his ability to take care of others. He couldn't forgive John for sacrificing himself because he measures his worth by the well-being of his father and his brother. And he couldn't forgive himself for letting Sam die.

And yeah, some of that is John's fault. He loved his boys but he screwed up. Sorry, but there it is.

And Dean, poor boy, needs major therapy.

The ability to take care of others, or the ability to take care of Sam? I think there is some difference here. I think if it had been anyone other than Sam, Dean probably would have seen it as collateral damage.

I sometimes wonder if Dean's single-mindedness protection of Sam is because of John's orders, or is it because he geniunely cares about Sam.

Yeah...you're right. The hug in AHBL2 says it all.

Speaking of hugs, I think the hug in Mystery Spot is Jared's revenge. Both the hugs in AHBL2 and MS had to hurt. LOL.

They said it was unscripted, the 'Mystery Spot' hug. I wonder whether it was only Jared, hugging Dean the way he did, or did the two of them plan it together? If Jensen didn't know about it, he sure did keep his cool, the way he did when Lisa kissed him in 'The Kid is Alright'. I heard Jensen didn't know about the kiss until it was done!

I would say, the ability to care for his family first. But he does care about others. He hunts to help people, not for revenge. (And also because it's the only thing he knows.)

I think, re Dean's protectiveness, that it's both: John's orders and that he loves Sam. The two are inseparable. His entire sense of self is bound up in keeping his family safe, because he had his mother ripped away at such a formative age. He had only a father who was dealing with his own grief and obsession and therefore probably a little distracted. I imagine John alternately training Dean hard and then kind of leaving him be. Not to mention leaving him in charge of Sam when he was just a child himself! The more Dean proved himself reliable, the more John relied on him.

I could go on and on, but I gotta go to class!

In other words, Dean's the one that's holding the family together!
