Countdown to the Downton.
Sep. 13th, 2011 05:14 pmFive more days to the second series! That is, if I got to download it on the same day that it's supposed to air in the UK. I haven't been reading any of the spoilers but the fans seem to be excited so I'm excited, too!!
The only thing that would spoil the story for me is Mary and Matthew going their separate ways because that would HURT. So very much. That's the downside of getting too invested in a pairing/story, you'd get crushed if things didn't go your way. But then, the payoff is AWESOME if it did! I love the other would-be couples too but I don't think I'd be too upset if things didn't work out between, say, Sybil and Branson, or Anna and Bates. Okay, maybe a little for Anna and Bates.
I wish they'd give Thomas a boyfriend though, a decent person, not someone like that Duke, and that he's not so mean and bitter all the time.
The book that I'm currently reading, Sally Beauman's The Landscape of Love, reminds me a bit of Downton Abbey, but maybe that's because I can't get DA out of my mind lately lol. Different period of time ( 1967 instead of 1912, the Vietnam war instead of WW1 ) but there were three sisters in the book, their house is called Wyken Abbey and Finn & Dan made me think of Sybil & Branson!
Jayne and Monty and anyone else on my flist who have watched the show, aren't you excited? :DD

Date: 2011-09-13 09:30 am (UTC)Not really the same thing, are they? Funny how I like both. I'm rooting for Anna and Bates. I was reading an interview with the writer of Downton and he said Bates is meant to be the ordinary decent man. (That's not a spoiler, is it?) I like the idea that the decent man gets a happy ending. It would make a change.

Date: 2011-09-14 01:37 am (UTC)Bates is a wonderful man. I think someone in the fandom has likened him to Mr Darcy!
Btw, someone in the DA fandom has written a DA fic based on an Agatha Christie book - And then there were none. Unfortunately, it's a WIP and it has been ages seen she updated ( she only has 3 chapters up ). It looks promising though.

Branson and Sybil need more 'character' in their characters before they can become a couple. I guess I mean they need some faults to correct before they can be a couple. She's stubborn but for all the right reasons and he's idealistic for all the right reasons. They're very shiny.
I'm very interested to see what happens to Ms. O'Brien. Yikes.

Date: 2011-09-15 02:01 am (UTC)And I agree with you that Branson and Sybil's characters need to be fleshed out more, but then if I were to get invested in more than one couple the potential heartbreak would be even bigger lol.
Aah, O'Brien and Thomas ... it's funny that even when you dislike certain characters in the show, you still find them interesting. Like Thomas, I'm kind of rooting for O'Brien :)
