I've got the book and now I've got the dvd. What I don't have is the time :-(

To anyone who have both read the book and seen the movie, which one should I do first? I usually prefer reading the book first but from what I understand the movie doesn't follow the book much. Like The Da Vinci Code. Apparrently the movie is not so enjoyable if you've already read the book.

I adored the movie, and have never read the book. In case that helps any!

Hee, the book has been languishing on my much-neglected bookshelves for months, gathering dust. I bought it because it has his pic on the cover :-)

I heard that there was a lot of things left out of the movie. It all depends on what you're watching the movie for, you know? ;)

I read the book before seeing the movie because I usually like to do things that way, but in this case I don't think seeing the movie first would get in the way of your enjoying the book. There is a TON of stuff in the book that's left out of the movie, and some really important things are changed, so watching the movie first wouldn't really take away the surprise of the other. IN other words, go with whatever order you like!

I usually prefer reading the book first too but well, this is Elijah, you know. The screencaps from that movie are all over LJ you know and I am dying to find out what that sunflower is all about :-)

I read the book first. It's hard going in places, but worth the effort. There are parts in the book that were very intense and haunted my thoughts. I was disappointed that the film had changed things so much towards the end. To me, the film messed up the whole grandfather storyline. When I explained the book version to the friends I saw the film with, their reaction was, "well, *that* makes a lot more sense!".

It's impossible to know what I would have thought of the film if I'd seen it first, but I'm glad I read the book before I saw the film.

Heh, after The Silmarillion, ( which I still haven't finished yet ) I feel that I can take on any book :-)

Hmm, the book is not that thick and anyway I cant get to the TV nowadays with the World Cup still on ( sorry about England hon ) so I guess I'll probably read the book first.

Thanks!

Never, ever buy a pirated one when it comes to Elijah!! Unless, you really really couldn't find it anywhere of course. That happened to me quite often, very loud music with hardly audible dialogue. Really spoiled The Constant Gardener for me and I really love Ralph Fiennes. Or was it Liam Neeson? I'm always confusing those two.

I honestly think you should read the book first, Layne. That way you will be able to understand things happening in the movie. My! But the book is so hillarious! Oh, but then it's so sad too. :'(

Enjoy!!
