I was reading 'Cell' when I came to the part where Ardai told Clay that they would find him dead in his bed the next morning. So that Jordan would agree to go with them. Not that I'm particularly fond of the Headmaster, but I didn't see that coming and it was like a punch to the stomach. And the lines that he used in that particular scene - they remind me why King is the master in his particular genre, and why I bought his books the minute they hit the bookshelves, sometimes even without knowing what they're all about.

Anyway, I think I've finally reached the point of no return in this book - you know, the point when the book starts to become unputdownable, that you have to finish reading it no matter what. Which is pg 262, btw.

I've been chipping away at 'Cell' for many months already, LJ and fanfics have been taking a lot of my reading time for the past couple of years, and it's high time I finish this book. Yup, things are getting more exciting and nail-biting, now that there're the possibilities of the phone-crazies communicating by telepathy, and that they're screaming rage and revenge for Clay et al blowing up the group at the stadium.

I hope I'd get to the Point of No Return with 'Deathly Hallows' soon, too. I'm nowhere near halfway yet and I still haven't got the urge to finish it, despite me dying to know what happened to Snape ( my hero in the HP series, or anti-hero as the case may be ).

I used to adore Stephen King but I haven't read him in years. I still think one of the best things he ever wrote was 'The Body' - the short story that developed into 'Stand by Me', and also 'The Stand'.

I love the two books that you mentioned. Gary Sinise!!

But my favourites are 'Salem's Lot' ( chilling ... ) and 'Misery'. The latter mainly because the monster in the story wasn't a supernatural being but an ordinary person. And I think Kathy Bates did a superb job potraying the title character.

Again, I would have to say that other than 'Stand By Me', I don't think any of his books have translated well to film - which is as it should be, because to me horror is 90% in the imagination. That's one of the reasons I don't like horror films - it's nothing to do with guts and gore and such - it's simply that I'd rather be left with my imagination - I think the imagination is much, much worse than anything that can be filmed! A silent house with only one creaking floorboard is much more frightening than a man slashing at people. Psychological terror - so much more effective. IMHO.

I used to read everything by Stephen King. Was especially fond of The Stand. I really preferred his old classics, like The Stand, The Shining, etc. to his newer things. I might have to try The Cell though!

It starts off quite slow. The pace is picking up now, though, about halfway through! I've still got a number of his books that I've bought but haven't read yet. The 'Dark Tower' series for instance. But the pull of LJ is so hard to resist :/

I like Stephen King's books a lot. Cell isn't my favorite, but it's a good thriller. I read Lisey's Story recently, and it's a great read. He has a new one coming out soon with another strong female protaganist. I'm looking forward to that one.

Oh you've read 'Cell'! Quite slow isn't it, the initial parts. Gory with horrific details, King's trademark, but somehow, lacking the soul if you know what I mean. Until it reached the parts that I mentioned above. And omg I need to get off LJ to continue with that book! *g*

I do know what you mean. Cell's worth reading, but once you finish it, get "Lisey's Story" and give it a try. King does his best work when he takes a character like Lisey and really tells her story. He writes women better than any other male author I've ever seen.

I agree with you there. James Patterson is not bad either, but Stephen King is better.

I finished 'Cell' yesterday. I don't know what to say about the ending. I guess it's a good ending but OTOH I wish I knew exactly what happened to Clay's little boy.

And I bought 'Lisey's story'. Read the first chapter to see what it's about. Oh Julia!

But I need to finish 'Deathly Hallows' first. Halfway through and been that way for ages already. Then I'm going back to Lisey!

Deathly Hallows is a good read too, though I thought the middle section was a bit slow. But it's got a slam-bang climax. I just reread Lisey. After reccing it to you, I had to go back and experience it again.

I've read Cell!!! *bounces*

It's an amazing book. Up until the end, when you're just kinda like "WTF?! THAT'S THE END?!" But I'm like that with all of King's booke, so feel free to ignore me. :)

He is a master though, I'll give you that. :)

*grins*

I've just got to the amazing part, yeah, and I should be finishing it soon. And I'm getting kind of anxious thinking of who's going to die next. King almost always killed of one major character or another, dang him.

*Ignores whole "Cell" part because hasn't read it and might someday*

I only thought of commenting here because of your last two lines =P NO SPOILERS ;) I'm a fellow Snape fan and I can't wait to read your thoughts about him when you're done reading. I wonder what you'll think of the last book. I'm not a fan of the last book. Not a fan at all =P But I'm satisfied with the way Snape was handled as a character =)

Yay to fellow Snape-fan! I think he's one of the saddest and most tragic characters in the series and it always irritated me the way Harry treated him. I would want him for my teacher if I were to enter Hogwarts!

I do love SK, but I haven't had the chance to pick this book up so I'm kind of avoiding your comments *g*. I just this summer finally finished his Dark Tower series, which I did love.

I'm glad to see that this book did become unputdownable *g*. All of his books used to be like that for me but sadly ... all of the ones of late take me some effort to get through :( (of course this may be because I'm online reading fanfic *g*). I'm going to have to remember to get this book! *hugs* :D

Oh you've finished the whole Dark Tower series. I've read up to Book 3, have the rest of the books in that series but zero time to read time. Oh well, I do have the time, if I could tear myself away from LJ that is.

That series remind me a bit of the Fellowship and their quest. The Gunslinger is Aragorn, the boy Jake is Frodo and then we have the Dark Wizard and all. I need to read Book 4, but I got to finish 'Cell' first, and 'Deathly Hallows'. So many things to read and not enough time to do so!

I bought the book many months ago and haven't read it yet. it's still in my bed, lying there. Untouched. But, I will read it. Once I am not occupied by Supernatural fanfics anymore. Hahahaha

Same here. Used to be that I'd finish a book within a few days of buying it. That 'Cell'? I bought it more than 6 months ago, and I've loads more books that I haven't read yet :(
