Regarding Dean's anger and the way he reacts to Sam's lies, the key for me is that Sam is not reacting to Dean's return at all the way we (or Dean) might have expected. He's nothing like all the stories people wrote over hiatus. He's not clingy, he's not overly emotional, he's not afraid to let Dean out of his sight. He's self-possessed enough to lie like a champ even in the first moments after realizing Dean's back. -- And Dean as I see him is not only scared to death of these powers of Sam's, but also deeply hurt and confused by the way Sam's acting.

Sam's depended on Dean his whole life, far more than he should, and he's struggled against that all his life, too. Now he knows the reality of being completely alone. Love like Dean's is seductive, overwhelming -- unconditional adoration, devotion, and protection is not something a lot of people are lucky enough to know

That just strengthens how Dean feels so far, doesn't it? I mean the entire Seasons 1 - 3 with his fear of being left behind and abandoned. And now this: deeply hurt and confused by the way Sam's acting. It's just so consistent. SPN writers are getting better and better, I guess.

I so agree there. To be honest, I don't quite get Sam's attitude either. He got his brother back even though he thought he would never see him again and he treats the whole thing almost... casually. I mean, maybe it's a "male" thing or whatever but it just seemed odd.

Oh go on, just watch it already. It's not in the same league as the award-winning TV series I guess, but there's just *something* about it, that once you get it, you get it. It's all in the backstory and the subtext and yeah, the hotness that is Sam and Dean ...

That passage you quoted there? That's exactly what I've been thinking too and what breaks my heart about these boys. That they've both been profoundly affected by their time apart is clear, but there is so much love there (it's nearly palpable) they'll ultimately find their way back. I believe!
